Aviak rooks are excellent hunting for xp around the 20 to 25 level range. That is if you can ever find them alive.

We don't have this yet in our item database. We'll need someone to run this through our item collector.

Things i have learnt

I started kiting these around as a 17 druid and was here till 19. What i have found is-
Yellow con rooks have better loot then red cons.
RYellow con rooks resist snare and break out of root alot more
Aviaks vs Gnolls
# Apr 14 2003 at 11:01 AM Rating: Decent
Well I've spent a couple levels now in SK after Recondite XP in Paludal started to slow down.

I started out Soloing blue conning Gnolls by the Splitpaw Spires, pulling away from roaming Gnolls to avoid adds (I don't want that loooong CR) and the loot from these is fantastic. Fine Steel stuff, heaps of cash, some gems etc... but they hit hard and I have a lot of downtime between mobs.

The Aviaks appear to give more XP and are easier (I can take blue conning Aviaks and have more than 50% HP left) but loot isn't as good.

If you can get a group the Gnolls are excellent but for soloing, I'll be back on the Aviaks tonight. Good XP, less downtime, and less chance of getting an unwanted add.

Love killin these things

I started hunting these as a brand new level 19 druid, and I'm now about 1 bubble away from 21. One thing I've noticed is that while they tend to break root fairly easily, they've been extremely easy to snare. I've never had a rook resist more than 1 snare, and then you can just kite. If you're going to solo these, port to the nexus and get a KEI. you'll make up the 30pp or so it'll cost you no problem hunting these guys, and KEI will more or less eliminate your down time so you can nuke your to your heart's content.

If I had to guess, I'd put the rooks at around 600 HPs or so, but that's just my general impression. Loot has been everything from a single piece of silver, to about 2 pp in coin, to low level gems, bronze weapons and mithril ear rings.

Slightly OT, On a whim I tried a couple of harriers. They all /con red to me, but I guess the first one was from the low end of the level range because my snare took and he went down without too much fuss. The second one resisted 9 snares before one took, he then resisted my DOT and my first 2 nukes before I decided to just run. I'm going to stay away from the harriers until they start to /con yellow.
Smacked me stupid

I think it was the servers today since pidddly lions were throwing off my heavy hitter spells but these things are nasty! The egrets alone were conning dark blue on my track and not knowing they are 3 lvls minimum differnce lower I thought oh well what the hell, test the waters.

Root, Nuk...Break, WHACK 40 WHACK 40...Where the %#@$ if the attack button Root, back off, break, dam*&%!!, root WHACK WHACK WHACK, root, break AH SH()&&% RUNNNNNNN. 5 Roots, all broke in 3 seconds flat. 2 DD's that did not take. and a DoT rolled off it's back. Got it to half health before I knew it would be a toss up and played it safe

DO NOT understimate this biped-ravens. They will smack you so hard your next avatar will be created dizzy and if you are early 20's caster they'll hit 2-1, they'll throw off most of your spells and rain pain on yah sumthing fierce and make you like it. If you feel like testing your luck make sure your close to the bridge and run before you get to 2 bubs health or you might as well do a /loc cause your going on a corpse run bub.

In short attacking in groups or with a sturdy pet is advised unless you like having to reearn exp

I am a level 19 mage (barely 19). After a little experimenting, I found that I can actually solo these rooks! About 1 out of 3 cons yellow and about 2 out of 3 cons red. I first decided to take the risk upon seeing a yellow rook with no others around to help him.
He mangled me up pretty badly. I tried using my usual mage tactics at first: Pull with nuke, send pet to take damage and fight, I nuke more and step in at end to take damage so pet does not die. The rook hits for in the 40s and killed pet quickly and me soon after.
Next time, I devised a very funny, but effective tactic. On my second nuke, the aviak, due to their intelligence, identifies me as the biggest threat and begins to attack me. I run around for a bit, pet still attacking. He is only hitting me about half the time cause i am running. Then, i turned around 180 degrees and jumped OVER my pet and kept running. This put some distance between me and the aviak and he started gettin pet again. I cast another nuke, he aggroes, i do the whole thing again.
Through this, I lose quite a bit of mana and about half life, but it is worth it to kill a red critter! The tactic makes it so the aviak is missing half of his hits through the whole battle. I am sure this tactic has been used by many, though it IS rather unusual. Anyway, I encourage anyone with a pet to try it. It is worth a shot.
How i kill these?

Man im a lvl 20 Troll Shammy and i still have trouble soloing these rooks at lvl 21. If they get near me they hit like for 100 dmg before i even get a swing, and when i root it only last for a second before they break free
Aviak Rooks are awesome!

last night I grouped (me a lvl 20 wiz/he a lvl 21druid) and we could take these simple. I would cast my stun spell twice and then nuke it for 173 :P and that would usualy kill it. we stood off the the east of the ramp and pulled to a spot under a tree where we could kill them w/out fear of KSers (it was pritty camped there). oh well thats just my 2 coppers

I soloed 5 yellow-conning Aviak Rooks at the Bird Farm the other night with my level 20 mage and a fire pet. Fire pet was buffed with Burnout and I used 2 to 3 Bolts of Flame. I know it requires line-of-of sight but pulling with it and keeping just outta reach turned this into a kiting and when the pet became the rook's higher interest, I waited to do it again. In any case, great experience-getter for a soloing mage. Oh yeah, I always get a SoW as a safety valve. Allows me to run to Rathe zone from Bird City to wipe the simple minds of the chicken rook. (I do like my mage, but my chanter is fun too.)
PRETTY EASY FOR NECRO
# Jun 14 2000 at 8:05 AM Rating: Decent
Hi guys,

I am a lv l6 Necro, and I can solo these guys with 75 to 90 % of damage to my pet and OOM and if that about 20% loss of health,

And when I hear some 20+ character saying he can solo them, it cracks me up..

It proves the point that NECROS RULE !!!

Really? Wow you're great.. My bard solo's these at 15 with 0% hp lose.. I bellow kite and AE kite them around.. Once I am done killing one I'm on to the next while you are sitting waiting for hp and mana.. Each class has it's goods and bads so don't think your necro can rule the world on his own.

If he would use an eath pet he could solo far better then a necro (Verant has said eath has more HP then any other pet, yes more then skeles). In short it's not his class, it's his tactics, fire a lot less HP then all other pet and don't come in to there power untill after 50 when they become wizards (RANGE a unknown conceped to necro pets) and gain a lot wiz spells.

With the exception of the huts and the front of the ramps, it is very easy to kill one without haveing another bird get on you...if you are a spellcaster they hit pretty had so be careful. Best approach is to either root em or to have an earth pet if you are a mage. They never fail to interrupt you half the time. Good Luck
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 03 2000 at 12:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Druids can kit these easily at 22, with great exp. Hunt between Aviak city and Paw.

Good fighters, these birds...had trouble with them even when they conned green at times. Loot is ok, but if you really want the good stuff go after the harriers and Avocets.
