I love to solo these...
# Aug 12 2002 at 9:53 PM Rating: Good
I'm a 36th lvl Necro on the Saryn server and I solo these all the time. Hit it with Dooming Darkness, then Invoke Fear, send pet, then VoS, Boil Blood and Vampiric Embrace, fear again if need be, then for added measure I hit it with Torbas Acid Blast. When the Dooming Darkness fails, I usually send the pet, let it take the agro, then cast again, when it takes, fear, dot, rinse, repeat. If everything fails, FD and let the pet die, wait and run, med, and recast pet then try again. Most of the time I can take a yellow /con but I did try a red and he smacked me down (resisted everything I had). Hope this helps...

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 08 2002 at 3:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for all you mid 30's warriors, but soloing is'nt what you do best. HG's won't be an option to solo until mid to upper 50's the downtime at lower lvls would make it unworkable, if you wanna get good exp and plat, partner a shammy or a cleric, or a wiz who can nuke kite with you choppin at his heels, but solo HGs in the 40's dream on.

I wonder if you are stuiped or just dumb... you say that warriors need to be 55+ to take a Hill Giant out without downtimes? LMFAO! I don't know what class you are or what you have smoked but warriors aren't that bad soloers at mid levels. Turn on Auto Attack dammit! You're the only bad news here with your intelligence. I'd say that a lvl 43 warrior would be able to take a lvl 37 Hill Giant with some decent gear and weapons. At least if its an Ogre. And a lvl 35 would be able to take out any Hill Giant if Weighted Axe kiting. Of course, you need to be an average warrior to do this, not a newbie who don't know how to play as a warrior. After I read your post, I suppose that you belong to the later category. And if you aren't a warrior, I suggest that you just shut up, don't play wise guy and stop buy accounts from E-bay, cause warrior soloing is a subject that I know a hell lot about!

About the so called "downtime" after killing something. There is something called "Bind Wound". Use it.

visit http://www.steelwarrior.org/ to learn more about the "class" called "warriors", like that all warriors aren't gnomes with rusty mining pick as a weapon.

But I have to agree with you that if you partner up with a cleric or shammy your exp will be better. But why should I do it when killing giants so partner wants loot too? It's much better exp in Highkeep if your hunting exp. Giants are best for loot.
Here's how to get good exp at mid 30's to about lvl 41 in HK:
Team up with a cleric(lvl 24 + 34+ is even better) and camp WR and pull from RR(if not camped) when it pops in there. Don't let any other people in, or else your exp will suck! Make sure you can do much damage or else this is not worth to do.

Oops! Warriors aren't supposed to talk, they are supposed to kill. Time to shut up, so bye all!

Gosh, you grammer is so top notch and you just sound so intelligent I bet that everyone heeds your words of wisdom as that of God himself.

Keep on skippin school so you can sit home, play eq, pretend to know what it is that you're talking about, and writing rude, obnoxious posts to people you are just providing advice to others or telling their opinion.

P.S. - Your name is SO witty.

Hey, where did you get air from? Post normal post instead of complaining so damn much. Gratz to your first post, btw. It could have been more informative about the game, though.

PS. Everybody aren't from USA or any other english speaking country so that they speak english perfect so i suggest that you shut you fat mouth and don't try to be so cool just because you speak english perfectly. By the way, my grammer is pretty darn good for my age! I wonder what server you are on cause I just need to duel you so I can sleep without biting my head or stone myself in the sleep.

Kenuve was added to your KoS, Ignore and hate list. Also added to the "dragonbait" list.

Well, I don't only want to complain in this post so I got a question: Is there any other place than DL that I can hunt at lvl 40? Exp was a bit slow.

Have a nice day!

I am pretty sure you aren't some foreign exchange student who's english is a little shakey. It's easy to tell the difference from someone who is just learning english and an idiot, so don't pretend you're sticking up for minorities.

I normally get just as mad at the people flaming as do I the people saying "relax, it's just a game" because we all know it's a game, but I agree with them this time. So, relax, it's just a game.

Because of this stupid grammar argument I have to make sure to use perfekt grammar on this post. ******.

I was just curious if any rogues made money by pickpocketing these guys. Doing drive-bys at lvl 55 with jboots could be profitable.

with 528 dd and charm and lvl 30-40 pet
RE: enc lvl 47 solo
# Jul 10 2002 at 7:01 PM Rating: Decent
If you are asking if you can, yes - a level 47 Enchanter can solo these. Why have a pet at the same time? Just Charm solo these :D
It would harder to solo 2 at the same time for a chanty because of the inability to mezz. If you pulled them correctly and your pet got on one at the right time, you could root one out of the way, debuff - mem blurr getting it ready for your pet to get it after it finishes the first one. But the pull would have to be done well - these things do have an incredible reach mind you. Otherwise, they might just eat your pet for lunch - remember, we have the weakest pets in the game.
If charmable (haven't tried personally but heard it can be done) then just charm solo (easier that way too! And a little more fun to do).

HAHA, Last nite in RM I was with a group (me warrior cleric ranger 30-40 levels) And we were on the hill killing HGs of course. Me being a rogue try and be a moral soul but alas when stupid druids (Not that all are , met some cool one's) park giants right on top of you. Well all I gotta say is that even tho I got petitioned 'cause I got vengence on these fools. A 35th dagger rogue can pickpocket 18-25 pp a time off these if he/she has their skill maxed. Mine was only at 175 skill level and I was doing this. So for all you rogues out there pickpocket does work but dont overuse it and be sensible about it. If not you'll probably get my treatment. 24 petitions in a hour for getting retribution on druids who cant park their mobs in the open AWAY from groups. All you rogues out there good luck , be silent and most of all stay sneaky.

Can a 51 pally with ok equipment solo these guys?
2100hp and 850ac self buffed
RE: Soloing these guys
# Jul 18 2002 at 4:21 AM Rating: Decent
Well Pally friend, yes ye can BUT... make sure ye have either the DW helm or DW breastplate(requires lots of japers). Those items will cut yer down time by tons and when fighting them (toe to toe since we have no fear spell for living things) and yer life gets low, root and back away. Right clik the Helm (what i have) and reroot if necessary. The helm heals me for 115 hps every 10 sec, so for 3 cliks of the Helm (b 4 root wears if not sooner) ye get back `350hps. Also, a good weapon and haste helps, I have the self haste as ye must have, a haste belt which between the 2 gives me 49% haste, and the weapon I am still using and love (since I did the quest) is the Wurmslayer, doesnt take me long killing these and the most dbl dmg i did was 106. They are fun to fight and working out yer strategy with the gear ye got helps. But having friends with ya makes hunting them easier. Hope this somewhat useful to ye and good luck and great fun!

Yes and No, necros can solo the crap outta Hill Giants, but I'd wait until 39-40 to do it consistantly. Snare, DoT, DoT, Fear, pet sic em ! Dead Giant....they can yield large amounts of coins. I've looted a few with 20+pp and some with 3pp and 100+ gold pieces. Loot varies.
Wait until 39 where your spells stick more, too many resists at 34 to be efficient.

Just a ditto. Your tactics don't sound like a Ranger. Don't let them hit you unless you're stuck. I have a lot more HP than you at each level and still kite when soloing as long as I have mana.

You're not kiting them. You're a ranger. You have a bow. Use it. Me (37 ranger) and a friend (cleric 34) killed them non stop last night - Root, snare, flame lick, swarm, let root break, kite, move in for melee at low health. Only damage we took was when snare wore off and I had to resnare.

I am lvl 44 cleric, and i have gotten my 500dd spell and I am very pleased with it. But as a warning to all other clerics, I have 180wis,(bad equip) and every time I solo one i have 5m left! hehe. so dont think to higly of ur self even if u have a 500dd spell! :) good luck all.

Bards
# Jun 04 2002 at 10:26 AM Rating: Default
Listen up bards, we have the ability to solo these as soon as we come of age. At 26 you get a fear song, use this twisting with the 23 slow song - Selo's Consonant Chain only, to allow for resists, and you have unlimited dead HGs on your hands. Unlike casters, you dont need to sit and med =P
RE: Bards
# Jul 09 2002 at 7:24 PM Rating: Decent
Why fear when you can charm them starting at level 27? The resists on snare and fear are going to be rather high since almost all HG's are going to be red to a level 26 bard. I'm not saying charm kiting will be easier, but take some sow potions with you so you don't have to worry about refreshing Selo's and charm away. The resists on charm are far less annoying then a resist on fear and snare. If you want to try it, go ahead but give charm kiting a try. I think you'll enjoy it more and live longer.

Can a 34 wizard solo these? well yes. If a 34 druid can why could'nt a wizard? We get a better snare (at 34) and we have better nukes. the only thing a druid has on a wizard is the ability to SOW him self, and thats an easy work around, with either SOW potions or Jboots. i have soloed from lvl 34 to current. I think its funny when you see a druid running a mob around waiting for his DOT's to make a mark, and casting his weak DD's. Then they have the balls to say "hey your a wizard, you can kite solo!" ROFLMAO. its another case of some one not knowing what another class has under their sleeve...... I love druids. They trade in the ability to buff for weaker DD's. thats a class balance. Its the person at the wheel driving that druid that is at fault. In fact a Wizard and druid "double dragon" team works very well. I have kited some yellow to low reds this way. Druids get the DoT's that a wizard does'nt. Add that to some awsome nukage and your in buisness!

Hi All,

Well I just hit 34 last night (druid) and I figured I'd try my luck on one of these guys. The fight was interesting to say the least. I started the fight with snare, root, and Drones all stuck first try so I sat to med for a bit. Root broke after about 15 seconds so I rooted again, stuck. I repeated this for a total of 3 drones, because he resisted the 4th and my mana was now really low. Root had broken by now obviously, so I ran around the zone a bit with snare still holding him. I finally got enough mana for a fury of wind cast, 250dmg, got him about 1/4 hp left. Well now the snare went and broke and I'm in big trouble because I have no mana. He ran up to me before I could turn and run and hit me for 54 45 13, I was very lucky since my ac is only 490. After I recovered from the stun I ran off and desperately tried to get enough mana for a snare. Cast. Stuck. Phew! Now I just run far far away from him and try to get up enough mana for another fury of wind. Cast. He's running away! I melee him from behind for about 5 minutes now, and he finally falls. He dropped 4.5pp and a lambent stone. After all this I can say get your wisdom up as high as you can before soloing these guys. I have 142wis and I don't thing that it was enough. Although the hill giant was yellow to me (35 or 36 probably). Anyway, happy hunting to all you druids out there!
RE: First Solo
# Jul 13 2002 at 2:19 AM Rating: Decent
Don't bother using DD at lv34. You won't have enough mana to drop them, hence why you almost died. Just snare, dot, and root.

RE: Average HP?
# May 27 2002 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
On my very first attempt, I cast 3 drones, 3 fury of winds and about 150 melee damage. So from that I would estimate somewhere around 2,000hp for a level 35 or 36 hill giant. (He was yellow to me at 34).

Can a lvl34 dru Solo The Giants???
RE: Solo
# May 17 2002 at 9:08 AM Rating: Decent
Yes a level 34 druid can solo hill giants. The more apt question might be can a 34 druid solo them well. To which the answer would be maybe. It takes my character about 10-12 minutes to solo kill one of these giants. This is using the ensnare, drones, run and med then drones again method. In order to pull this off you need to lead the giant away from the giant valley into one of the more open parts of the zone. This is efficient for several reasons. It allows you to avoid KS'ing high levels who are plat camping, it lets you avoid pesky cyclops, hg, and giant skeleton adds, and it gives you plenty of room to kite. There is a path near this area where there are some big beatle types. If you lead the giant down this path sticking to the right it will lead to a really open part of the zone. Out here I can even kill giants that con yellow to me. I hope this helps.

Hey all! I love all these messages about people waiting to solo these mosters at 40 because of there high hp and hard hitting. Being a bard we are not considered a solo class which makes it even more ironic to me. Well bards listen good. At either 27 or 28 ( i cant remember) we get a charm spell... I know most people say that they will resist this song but it actually works very well for its level if you pick out a low giant. You charm a 33-35 level giant tell it to attack another. When the charm runs out you charm the giant who is winning and continue the battle. When your "pet" kills the one giant you run up and finish your pet off when the charm runs out. That is two great exp kills and about 30-60 pp for little work. Downtime?....Whats that?

2 things here, first, if u charm a giant and then charm another, i find that the huge agro you have built up by charming the first will mean, the 2 giants will not fight each other, rather the originally charmed hg will just run and attack you. Second,if u think a lvl 27 bard can even think of mele'ing some of these suckers, you are either very twinked or nuts, they hit for huge damage, and are a general pain to hit, full stop.
Soloing the Giants
# May 03 2002 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
I find as a Druid I can just start soloing these guys now at lvl 41 without any special buffs. My Wisdom is currently 150. They normally require 2 DOT's and the rest DD's and they usually go down without having to Med. Drops are good, about 20pp per drop, but it is heavy loot (5pp 150gp). xp is decent (half blue). Lots of Giants around so not really a lot of compitition.
Druids be kind to others there. Freely buff and heal other people that can't solo these if you're able. Remember, you will need their kindness in later levels.

I just started kiting these guys and believe it or not its not really that bad. I use chains to slow and my dot spells are as follow:chant of frost, chant of flame, fufil's curtail chant used t/w a MM drum. This takes about 5-7 minutes but before you know it *ching*. Im 47 now and get a half a blue of experience and average 20 pp per kill. Bards are no tanks but can kite with the best of them =)
