35 Paladin & 27 Druid???

I am a Dwarven Paladin of the 35th Circle. I have good equipment, about 1300 hit points with buffs, and an AC of over 700. I have a Druid friend who is still a bit young, at 27th level, but he has Crud, some good DD's, etc.

Question is, could we partner up and take these things out? My Druid friend kiting, snaring and dotting, me hacking, slashing and stunning. If they are too high, they will resist him a lot and I can't take him alone.

Thoughts?? Maybe we should wait til he is 29th....

Dont even consider trying to solo one of these at 29. I tried this in west commons, and ill tell you I wont touch one of these mobs again till at least lvl 34. I didnt stand a chance.

I am a lvl 31 necro at the moment, and I was wondering what the minimum level might be that I can head over to Rathe and start grouping these smelly dudes for their awesome loot. I know necro's solo tactics would work well here, so I was just wondering what the lowest lvl that I could do this may be, and if I'd be resisted at my current level

mass killing of HG
# Feb 24 2001 at 11:27 PM Rating: Decent
from my experience(in rathe mtns, havent fought these guys in anywhere but rathe mtns), the best way to kill these guys is to get a group of 3 tanks, a chanter, healer, and snarer. anyone can pull but i think the chanter should pull because of air elemental illusion, it gives free levi and tash is an excellent pulling spell, long range, quick casting and low mana usage. the best spot is neg500 pos 2400. pull there and have the snarer snare, then the chanter fears, and the tanks start beatin on it while taking almost no damage. incase of 2 pulls, the tanks and the cleric kill it while the snarer helps the chanter charm the 2nd one and make the 2 HG fight each other. ive pulled HGs nonstop with this stratagey, and it works very well assuming the people in the group know what to do. the best time to pull is as soon as the 1st HG starts to run, then go and pull another and by the time the tanks finish it off, the 2nd will be incoming

im a chanter and the spells i used as chanter from top to bottom are: tash,DD,dot, slow, memblur, charm, clarity, fear(chase the moon is very effective)

ive grouped with many people and they think the strat is very good and they usualy walk alway with pockets full of platinum and exp bars full of orange =)

Another suggestion to this strategy is to include a mage or shaman to malise the HG. The mage malise will lower all resistances (20 on all resistances except disease). This will allow the DoTs & Snares & DD's to virtually never be resisted. The Shaman has a better lvl 34 mali spell than the mage, just don't know the stats on it.

Im a 34th lvl Shammy and these guys arent really a problem -- they will take quite a bit of mana depending on the method of destruction -- i suggest waiting till 34 for this tho so you have enstill -- less likely to be resisted and actually holds a while VS root. Best idea is to pull him with Tagars Insects that way he cant hit you as fast and makes casting on him easier with out all the running around. Once tagared run away and root him -- cast envenomed breath then scourge -- this is where the style varies but the the first is a must -- some ppl use a pet but its not wise -- they hit hard and fast and you cant keep him alive long -- some will just root and dot then med while the dots do its work -- others will root DoT and then proceed to use winters roar (BIG MANA DRAIN AND TUNARE FORBID HE RESISTS ONE) i personaly root -- DoT -- and med till he needs rooting again or poison -- when he is at about half i will cast winters roar for the extra HP loss that is usually enuff to gain the upper hand -- if you have a pet this is the time to send him in. The rest of your mana is either A) saved for next fight B) used healing you pet till he runs or C) Numing him down till he runs. The XP soloing is nice but try to get clarity for lowered down time -- and the LOOT is unbeatable -- ONE LAST NOTE!!! Be prepared to run if things go south cuz they can kill you very quickly and make sure to keep your bearing to the zone and other giants. GL to you all and i hope they are as rewarding to you as they are to me!

For all the talk, i went to West Karana at 35th with a 50th druid for support. Druid OOM, so no SLN at the time, only SOW, and all my enchanter buffs(Clarity,Augment,Obscure,GShield,Rune3,etc.).

Saw a blue Hill Giant at 35 there, had the druid just snare it, was easy fight from then on. Just Tashani, Suffocate, DD, Root, DD, DD, Root, etc.. Im sure you can do it with just sow on and rooting him, no snare, even with alot of MR. Only 2 outta maybe 6 Anarchy's were resisted.

Only time the HG did any damage was when i was medding, root broke, but it actually took him about 6 hits to break Rune 3, and the 5 other hits from then on were MISS, MISS, 49, MISS, and 30. Looted 14pp, 85gp, 103sp, 130cp, and a FS Spear.

Dont know if i caught a baby one or just a normal WK one, but these would be np for a group of two lvl 29-34, and im sure even a 39th wiz can solo them without any difficulty.

That's how a newbie warrior described last night. I guess 2 were walking down the middle of West Karana last night on Lanys T'Vyl. I guess it would have been a chance to find out if they are social or not...

The newbies opted not to perform that experiment, howere.

I have been hunting HGs since I was lvl 44 and some of the HGs are just starting to Green out on me(lvl47). Im sure you can hunt till about lvl 48 and maybe if you are patient enough, till 49. I am of course a Necromancer and do the usuall of Fear Kite Method. Exp is good but starting to thin out at 47 and loot can range from 30sp which is the lowest Ive gotten to a Nice 45pp which is the highest.

For you other Necros my Method is: Pull with Dooming Darkness, Scourge, send Augmented pet in, Fear and HP Tap if needed. Im sure you can also hunt here at lvl 39 but may need to reapply a lot of the dots and snares, also keeping an eye on pet health. Hope this helps 8)

I have been told that these HG's have 2500 hp and also that clops' have 2000. the question really is HOW MANY HP DO HILL GIANTS HAVE??? now i killed a clops the other day by simply root and dot (i'm a necro). i didnt have my new fear spell for the lvl cause the words drop in rathe anyway. Now clops' take bout 5 minutes with dot and root goin alone and if HG's got 2500 hp thats 2 more times i gotta dot it, about. wtf is with the big deal then taking one of em down the same way.

HG's have much higher MR and hit about 20 damage more per hit and faster. If you don't get hit, no biggie. Cyclops range from more like 1300-1600HP, maybe Tarskuk has 2K or a little more. Even with VoS you're talking 5 rounds for full damage, which would be about 3.5 minutes of keeping an MR MOB rooted. If you can do Tarskuk with 2 bubbles of mana you should be able to do a low HG, but that MR makes all the difference.
HGs in Rath go up to at least level 42
# Dec 06 2000 at 4:25 PM Rating: Decent
As a 49 Monk I was grouped with a 39 druid and notice that this HG was particularly difficult. He conned blue to me and red to the druid. I don't remember this happening before. Several others conned blue to me later in the session. This was my first time fighting HGs in Rath since the Epic repair patch and haven't fought many since the epic quests were put in. They must have changed them a bit. No it was not a corrupted etc.
RE: No they dont

HGs are exactly level 33-37 except the named one is slighty higher. I have literally killed thousands charm kiting with my Bard. I soloed most of 33-40 on HGs. Unless the zone was bugged that Druid was lieing to you for some reason. You get blue exp up to 13 levels below you. Every 36 and 37th level HG would con blue to a level 49

well, i think you must have mistaken or something. hunted lots of giants in rathe and i am now 37 and the highest con of a 4 hours of pulling where even. you know they have put in a named giant there. conned red to a 42 level shadow knight. maby it was him

at 35 i soloed a yellow in 3m, im a nec. heres how: Pull with darkness (NEVER Resisted, at least for me), then right away fear the thing, blood and vos. Keep in mind these guys like NEVER resist you. as soon as vos wears out re-dark him, always keep fear'd

RE: these guys are easy
# Jan 27 2001 at 2:58 PM Rating: Default
It's pretty easy for druids to kill these things. I got a group with 2 druids level 30 and 29, (I am level 30 mage), all we did was snare him, druids kept dotting him back and forth, kite him around in a circle. My pet was attacking his *** from behind while he chased after the puppy druids and I just blasted him to pieces. They don't have high magic resist so it's great. But it nearly took all of our mana to kill the thing. The thing is to never let him hit you, they double hit for around 90 which does hurt. And make sure when you're kiting him around in the circle, don't get too far ahead of him. The druid did that once, giant turned right back around and pounded my pet 5 or 6 times and it was dead. I don't suggest tanking these dudes.

I am a level 36 Shaman and for the heck of it spotted a blue HG and decided to try my luck. I Diseased him then ran like the wind. Pulled away and rooted him then poisoned him then root broke we fought for 5 econds my pet began to attack and i ran. He chased me while pet attacked from behind. Reapplied disease and poison had him to 1/4 then OOM. A friendly wizard finished him off for me. Not as bad as i expected though. Once I hit 39 look out HG's.

Easy if ya know how :)

My g/f and I have been soloing (Well sorta heh) these since 34. I have a druid, her a warrior... tactic is: I pull with snare, dot, then proceed to 'kite'. She follows behind bashing away with her weaps. When the giant agros' on her a quick dd turns him back around. Reapply snare and/or dot's as necessary and there ya go :)

P.S. This tactic works ok with Griffons also, we took down GrimFeather last nite this way, granted I was oom and both of us took a pretty good beating, but it worked!

ok forget what 34 druid said regarding dd's on these...druid mana efficiency comes from dots...i have done 10 levels on these guys solo at rm so i know them pretty well...if you are gonna waste mana dd spelling them wait till lvl 49 then quad kite,at least you kill 4 for the downtime you are gonna get from dding... my method is to snare a hg...pull it off the hill to near a wall then root....cast 2 dots and med....back away from him so when root breaks you can reroot before he reaches you...or not...depends on how quick you are i spose...dot again as needed....when it get real low just snare if root breaks, you can even melee hit then to get skill up if you are inclined that way the best thing about hg's is loot..personally i have been able to spend over 50kpp just from hg profits ...thats why you see lvl 50= players at rm soloing them...the money is just so good
RE: Druid V Hill Giants
# Dec 30 2000 at 5:43 PM Rating: Default
As a druid, I can kite these at level 30, might have to med a bit if there are too many partial resists. Unfortunately, unless you fear or root the HG, snare/nuke is more mana efficient than DoTting it, since DoTs do approximately 2/3rds of their full damage if the target is moving towards you (or if you're running, I forget). I got 37 pp (mostly plat but lots of gold/silver too, so beware).

Solo with 34 Druid - LOOT !!
# Nov 26 2000 at 7:51 AM Rating: Default
If you ensnare it then DD it with combust 180-182 til you're OOM - run sit for 6 secs -(repeat til enough to nuke again) just keep it up - 30-45pp on them too !! also carry Fine steel for an extra 5-10pp- good exp too. (easier if have clarity - SOW required)
RE: Solo with 34 Druid - LOOT !!
# Feb 20 2001 at 2:47 PM Rating: Decent
Bah, a better tactic is to ensnare, pull somewhere fairly safe, and root. Then toss on both your dots (Immolate and Drones of Doom), sit down to med, and when root wears off stand and re-root. Since root stacks with snare now you have plenty of time to get up and re-root, and dots are much more efficient. Only problem with this tactic is resists, but you'll get about the same resists with combust without the efficiency of a dot.
RE: Solo with 34 Druid - LOOT !!
# Mar 05 2001 at 2:03 PM Rating: Default
Aye this can be a good tatic. A better one when you get your next root spell at 39. I would think that root spell would last longer and being that your a higher levelit would resist less. You could ensnare, dot with swarm and immodulate then run like hell. Sit, med and redot then run like hell again. Always better to have a partner until later levels. (39 +)

Yeah, that guy got lucky in the first post...I tried this a few times last night at level 34, 173 wisdom...Giant resists too damn much. I am sure if I kept at it I could kill one easy, but NOT every time...not even HALF the time. Every time I tried it I ended up running to the zone...usually after 5-6 tries at ensnare...finally just saying the hell with it and zoning him.

You need to solo these at around lvl 39 as a mage, with or without chain summoning, they will hit for 94 every time at your lvl and they have about 2500 hps. You will be killed in about 15 seconds.

A necro and mage could kill these guys at 30 maybe unless u pulled a lvl 37 one then it would resist ya castings. they drop upwardsof 60pp and combine weapons, toes, Fs weapons, lambent stones, steel torques, me a shaman could solo them at lvl 34 only blue/white cons i know a necro who coudl solo yellows without too much hassel and some red cons with some difficulty.
now at lvl 41 they r great exp, cash for as a shaman now i can kill them fairly fast using root dot med and only use half manna with 183 wisdom ). heh and i don't use a pet, they r a waste of manna vs a hill giant cause they hit too hard.

i just fully soloed my first one. I say fully because i have found them with little to no life after dealing with guards before. I am a 32 druid, and killing this guy took me over 30 minutes....i would say for druids, 34 would be a good lvl to try these guys be cause of the drones of doom spell..also, they seem to resist much less than mountain giants.
