The 'Death Beetle' spawn in SOL B is rather rare. I've seen him once in probably two dozen trips, but I didn't specifically look for him each time.

He can easily be solo'd by a 49 plus paladin, with a root and heal technique, just have to be careful with adds. I can take him out at lvl 54 in about 90 seconds, and the black chitin dropped for us last night. Plate armor look is very nice for many classes. I think everyone but Iksar can wear these. The beetle spawns with the rest of the beetles in SOL B, next to the one that is in the little shallow cave.

The enameled black chestplate (25ac no other stats) matches the chitin legs perfectly for the black plate look. Have both on my bard. Too bad the legs are only 7ac, I would keep them on in battle but instead have my bright red dyed fine plate leggings for that.
Good money

black chitin legs sell for 30 pp to merchant which is good money. It could eventually be sold to a druid for 150-200 pp as the pants got a great black plate look.

Unrest beets Vrs here
# Apr 28 2001 at 11:28 PM Rating: Default
Man,I just noticed that these beetles are WAY different than the ones my Warrior fought in Unrest. The ones there were green to me at lvl 15,maybe less,i dont remember. The main reason that i want to know is why are they such a big LvL diff?I mean,of course they don't have the same Lvl in each zone, but like 13 Unrest beetle Vrs a 42 Death Beetle is just wierd.

Where can you find these death beetles? These pants look really cool and I would like me a pair. Also, how often do they drop?
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 10 2001 at 2:04 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) My guild leader on bristlebane told me that me a full group of lvl 16's can go camp these and im lvl 16 right now so i wanted to go and camp them but i see now that i cant because the Mob is lvl 42. I want to know if it's true that i can camp these legs! And i would like to see the price of these legs DROP because THEY STINK!!!!
RE: Im confused!!!!
# Jan 18 2001 at 6:31 AM Rating: Default
Your guild leader probably told you a full group of 16's can camp in najeen not nagafen. The price is fairly high on the legs since they can be worn by casters for a rare plate look (look like black plate when worn) and the +10 mana doesn't hurt.

i think he meant the death beetles in Estate of Unrest
Burrowing Scarab?
# Oct 03 2000 at 3:40 AM Rating: Default
I saw the effect on the gland. what does BS do anyway? I'm assuming a DoT.

A REALLY nasty DoT. He himself procs it during battle. I personally enjoyed useing the gland during a duel with my friend. We were both warriors and he was 5 levels higher than me and he dropped real fast =)

Peace

Beetle and beetles
# Mar 14 2000 at 5:44 AM Rating: Decent
Just to dispell any random thoughts, we are talking here "the death beetle", not those puny things in unrest like the pic here, but the king beetle, the top of the range bug. His disease DoT is quite potent, but nothing to worry about in a good group. In my experience , you dont even worry about canceling this dot, just sit it out with chloro and a heal or 2. Like all beetles in solB, hits fairly hard, double attacking for 100+ dmg, but get a chanter or shammy to slow it down and incap it, and its just as easy as an ordinary lava beetle, LDC's have a lot more hp's IMHO.

What about cure desease or posion? Is the DoT disspellable?
death beetle
# Mar 01 2000 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
The death beetle will infect players with a terrible DOT called Burrowing Scarab. I am not sure what the exact damage of this spell is, but I'd assume it is in the 700-1000 point range....very nasty stuff. Common loot: black chitin legs. Rare loot: death beetle gland which has 1 charge of, you guessed it, Burrowing Scarab.

That would really suck to get hit by one of those burrowing scarab in a duel against a melee class... dont have any resist items because you dont expect anything, and wham...
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 01 2000 at 11:00 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Very very bad!

Use the effect during a duel vs a higher level person :) youll teach him not to mess with you, expecially if you got those nifty Jboots already
LOL

funnier yet is I remeber really low levels forming groups for death beetles in unrest those things are so green yet THESE death beetles could kill my gnome before he could say holy flying halflings!
the "death" beetle

You'd think with that kind of name, it wouldn't look like a damn klacknak, klicknik, whatever LOL.

Nod, I'll let you tell that to its face. Its called a death beetle for a reason.
not worth it without cleric
# Feb 24 2000 at 5:48 PM Rating: Default
Don't see how you take this guy without some serious healing. Without a cleric or at least 2 druid/shaman I wouldn't camp this, the DOT is just too nasty. Think mid 40s is more appropriate for this then low 40s/high 30s as the risk is too high for what you get.
