Faction and Charisma have everything to do with pricing. However, after a certain amount of CHA, the price does not decrease any more. I don't know the exact amount but I am pretty sure it is 110 or around there.
Apprehensive compared to Amiable? That price difference is a good day worth of farming the HG's in FM or the genoids in CC.

For purchase price, Indifferent faction is the end point of price drops. If the purchase price is 6500 at Indiff, it will be 6500 at Ally.

You can however use the bank if a banker were to aggro on you. Did it last night while killing Felwithe guards.

till i saw the price! 110 charisma for even a a Paladin is high, I only have 105! And that price... geeze... i wont see that anywhere near my level of 37. I thought these boots were sold in dreadlands... so they're sold in Soluseks Eye then?

Is there any iskar's out there than can confirm they went from KoS to being able to buy from this vender? And if so any idea how long it took? <G>

Anyone know what Earth Elemental illusion cons to him? IE - Ball of Clay from CT could be used if it improves faction.

To those wondering, yes the lowest possible price for both the TBoots and the Tink Bag is 5250, you need about 110 CHA or so to get that. If you're gonna buy these and dont have high CHA, go buy some 7 CHA bracelets off chanters, they are very cheap and will save you tons of plat. Also, Marfen IS on the same faction as the clockworks, he simply cannot go below dubious in faction. I know this because while I was farming them for CGS/molten cloak, i eventually lost the ability to sell to him even though i started amiable.

P.S. Best way to raise faction with the clockworks, if you're high enough lvl, is to go on a naggy raid. The fire giants (which have to be cleared in order to get to naggy) give HUGE positive faction hits with them. I went from dubious back to indiff after two raids.

I'm the author in the last post. Now after 14 days or so killing about 100 a night, all the gnomes con "aprehensive." I can purchase the boots from the merchant for 7224pp.

So if u are determined you can raise faction with the merchant, no matter what race/class combo you start with. I am DE/Necro.... we start with the worst faction of all.

Good luck

Faction

I started "Ready to attack" with general population of Gnomes. I started out "Dubious" with the tinker merchant. Now, after a week of faction improvement, I am "Dubious" with them both. I had to ask myself: "How could I raise two faction levels with the one set of gnomes and stay the same with the merchant?" What I figure is this:

The Merchant cannot drop below "dubiousy". If he did he would be attacking 50+ players and get slaughtered. He cannot con higher than the general population of gnomes, however. When the rest of the gnomes con "aprehensively" then I expect the merchant's con to rise to "apresehsive" also and at that time be able to buy the boots from him.

By the same token, the freeport guards are KOS yet the merchants are dubious. If the merchants were kos to me there would be a lot of unhappy newbees with no where to shop...heheh. I would expect the merchants to remain dubious until, the unlikely ocassion, I raised my con higher than dubious with the freeport folk.

Rasing faction with the gnomes is not easy. I kill 25 mobs per hour in sol b and it has taken a few week palying four hours a night... and I'm not there yet. But I still feel it is better than wasting a week camping the AC and having nothing to show for it.

I've always suspected this fellow is on another faction, separate from the "Solusek Mining Co." faction that the others are on.

Though I'm now warmly with this fellow after spending many many levels in SolB, so maybe he is, but has some sort of faction cap.

i have a 51st lvl de wizzy and a 35th lvl iksar warrior...i have conned the tink bag vendor with both and they r both dubious to him yet scowled at by the clockworks...i even tried killing the vendor with my wizzy to see if there was any different factions involved...there is none...u get the same faction for him as a clockwork...what is the deal? how can i get 2 different cons from mobs on exactly the same faction? can anybody explain this to me before my head explodes?

As far as I can tell, most civilized merchants cannot drop below "dubious" faction. I think the main reasons for this are as follows:

a) If merchants were KOS to people, players would often end up killing the merchant in self defense, and nobody would be able to use that merchant again until it respawned at it's home point.

b) If merchants were KOS to people, players would often end up training the merchant to a zone, or get killed by the merchant after trying to run away, leaving the merchant very far away from it's home point, and if a merchant isn't near it's home point it won't allow players to buy or sell things.

Imagine if merchants *could* be KOS to people... probably 95% of all merchants on Norrath would not allow players to buy or sell items, if they were still alive at all.

Believe I read somewhere that vendor's can never have lower than "Dubious" faction no matter how low you go in the faction. Could be wrong though....
RE: trav boot mystery
# May 13 2001 at 12:38 PM Rating: Default
ALSO...u should kno that killing clockworks doesnt seem to lower your faction with the tink bag vendor...when i started out i was threatening to the clockworks and dubious to vendor...after killing many clockworks i am now scowled at by clockworks but i am still dubious to vendor...i am completely flabbergasted...

I'm evil, I admit it. I even worship Inny. That was my parents fault tho. Now I need to haggle with this fine lad and I can't. So killing kobolds in SolB is all I need to do? What about the gobblies.
TRAVELER's BOOTS
# Apr 26 2001 at 10:32 AM Rating: Default
It has been confirmed that this NPC also sells Traveler's Boots now. They are the same as Journeyman's Boots (AC 1) except there is a casting time (which can be interrupted). The running speed is EXACTLY the same as journeyman's boots. I hear the price is around the same as the Tinkerer's pack (5250pp with good charisma)
I have not heard if the boots are "no drop" after you purchase them.
Don't kill him.

This guy is a merchant, so don't attack him. He gives no experience when killed, and leaves no corpse, so don't take a faction hit for nothing and just leave him be. Besides hes very nice for selling to before you con dubious from slaughtering the gnomes.

Cheapest he sells it for is 5250pp, if he doesn't want to bargain that low for you then get a friendly bard or enchanter to do the bargaining.

He may be a vendor but like all the gnomes he's linked to Solusek Mining Co faction, not the Merchants of Ak'Anon faction.

You can get this faction up by killing kobolds in Sol B.
