The shadowmen come in the classes of Warrior, Monk, Cleric and Necromancer. The Necromancers tend to look like books, while the Priests have the appearance of Snow cones. The Warriors tend to show their weapons, while the monks are invisible (save for their name).

Shadowmen hang out at fixed locations, usually in groups from four to seven. They do not have a huge aggro radius, but are social so Harmony can be very handy in fighting them.

Shadowmen move very very quickly. If you're trying to run from them, you will need a high level bard with a magical drum to be able to escape them, they can outrun all forms of Spirit of Wolf.

Shadowmen drop numerous items for numerous quests. So many items are dropped that it can be a maddening experience trying to get the one you need. It has been theorized that the shadowmen in different zones are more likely to drop the various items.

Most of the items they drop are Temporary meaning they will disappear if you log out.

In Innothule Swamp:

  • This mob spawns at -420,+325.

In Nektulos Forest:

  • This mob spawns at -1450,+824.

See invis

If any of the shadowed men see invis it is probably the necros after they cast Deadeye, the necro see invis spell.
Drops by zone?
# Jul 03 2000 at 4:04 PM Rating: Decent
As some have pointed out the drops are wierd. I spent 8 hours camping the Lesser Fay spawn looking for a shadowed ball and got none. I *did* get about 4 patches though... Damn shame I didn't have any of the rest of the stuff for the acumen mask at the time!
That was pointless

If you have to run then you're already dead. Best bet is to gate out. (39th Mage on Vallon, don't need the faction anymore =)
SOW
# Jun 09 2000 at 5:37 AM Rating: Decent
You guys say sow wont work, it will. It maynot stop you getting hit when you run, but it will get you to the zone line a heluva lot quicker
Wrong Con? WRONG!

Treants are about the same level and they hit as hard as the shadowed men... And, I'm pretty sure, Shiae, that the HP on the Shadowed Men varies on the class. Warriors would have the most hp, while necros would have the least, i would suspect. I'm also pretty sure the necros have 450hp...I had about that much at 24-26.

The respawn time on that flower is less that 30 seconds, so relax and breathe a little :P

For some reason a Ranger and I decided to hunt these things in Lesser Fay, but from what I've read, and I'll surely inform him also, is that these creatures are faster than SoW. He will confirm ( as well I ) they are not. We were there in our 26th season and made crazy exp. off of them. All we used was SoW, we did have to zone into MM, so running actually proved SoW worked, you just can't turn and cast on them, they are quicker than casting time. So, try to space your healer or caster a small distance from the tank, that may assist you in the future. The Ranger was named Noudle. Good luck all of you, and good journeys.

Wandering Shadowman in LF
# Apr 27 2000 at 9:09 AM Rating: Decent
The wandering shadowman in LF is a PH for the Shadowman leader, who is required for the new ranger quest. The PH is always a cleric, starts near loc 1800, -400, and is on a 25 min timer. The leader is a very rare spawn, never showed in 8 hours straight camping for him.
Great for mages if can find alone
# Apr 24 2000 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
As a 25 mage, I could solo a shadowed man (con yellow to red) as long as there was just 1 in the spawn. Any more than that and forget it unless you have help, preferably tanks or another pet class. Wizards can kill them quick, but they gotta get those spells off with the men hitting for 54+ a pop. Take the clerics out first, it's in your best interest =)
Druids beware

WARNING: Druids thinking they can jsut snare these suckers, if snare sticks, they still run at regular speed
hmm
# Apr 19 2000 at 12:05 AM Rating: Decent
Ive never saw a shaman or an enchanter one, and I fought them for a week straight after they put them in...maybe it depends on which camp your at?(the one I was hitting was the spawn in LFay) They cant outrun SoC, but thats not a form of SoW :P They are summoned creatures, druids have that hardly ever used anti-summoned line they get to use on these suckers(dont have SoW on, youll just run further away when you get feared, and alot of the necro spells kill SoW anyways). Also remember that mages can summon swords of runes that proc DD vs. summoned, making a tank a shadowed killin machine :) Also, shadowed always see through invis, but I think that thier aggro ranged is screwy cause alot of the time you can get pretty close even if you have been hunting them awhile and they wont jump you...then other times theyll jump you quick(p.s. for the aggro-this is the only MoB Ive had mixed results with Harmony on, sometimes you get less but it hardly ever works as well as it usually does). Oh yeah, also any MoB has a chance to see through Invis, though certain ones do more than others, and some always do :)
Outrunning Shadowed Men

Just for your information, the Shadowed Man can't out run ALL forms of sow. Ever try Spirit of Cheetah? Just a thought.

Not sure if its a freak of nature or not but while hunting underbrush, a friend were crossing through the middle of lfey. Useing track i picked up a solo shadowed man rovering through the woods no where near any of there fix spawn points.
Not sure how rare this is but, at least in lfey becarefull cuz theres at least one shadowed man who is not happy just staying at home.

Just wanted to let you know that the other day I was on a chip hunt in Nektulos. As usual, I had my Sense the Dead spell memmed. Well, low and behold.....I targetted a Shadowed Man with Sense the Dead. Just an FYI.

Are you sure you didn't target a Shadowed Man Pet? I bet you did.

Take em DOWN!
# Apr 05 2000 at 4:53 PM Rating: Decent
You probably could take one down but you would have to have at least 2-tanks 1-cleric 2-casters 1- (your choice). Your chances of surviving is pretty low:(

In Lesser Fay
# Mar 30 2000 at 3:13 PM Rating: Decent
There is a single shadowed man that I have seen on the giant's throne along the wall in Lesser Faydark, between the zone entrance to Steamfont and the Orc Chief's camp. I have never seen him with a pet, but he cons red at 22. Don't remember offhand if he aggros on me or not. Didn't want to get close enough to find out.
Seeing Invisible- General
# Mar 29 2000 at 10:47 PM Rating: Decent
I'm not certain that the Shadowed Men can ALWAYS see through Invisible on a person. If I recall rightly from some research I did a while back, higher-level MOBs (starting in the mid-20s for some MOBs, like Shadowed Men) have a chance of seeing through the Invisible on a given player. I'm not sure if the level of the player or the caster who Invis'ed them has any bearing on this or not. As for the Shadowed Men in particular, since they are themselves invisible (aside from whatever they are holding, and their nametags), it seems logical that their chance to see through might be higher than some other MOBs. Just a few thoughts.
See invis

Shadowed men can see Invis...but i think they are along the same line as the crocs in oasis they say scowl but dont necessarily attack you. <shrugs>
