Look for him while hunting Hill Giants

This named cyclops is part of the Ivy Etched Helm quest for rangers. I spent level 32-40 bow kiting hill giants around north east area of the Rathe Mountains, but Tarskuk spawned near the western zone entrance for me. I pulled him to the zone and bow kited him as well. He seemed easier than the Hill Giants (as are the rest of the cyclops). He dropped the charm for me on the first try.

After turning in for the quest, I went back later to get another Cyclops Charm to wear. This time i tried killing the cyclops around the hill near the west zone line, but nothing. So I hunted a few hill giants and never saw him on track after logging in and logging out a few times.

Then I went back to the hill where he spawns near and I killed giant skeletons and lizards as mentioned below and it worked. He spawns and I killed him but no charm. Then I hit track and somehow there was another Tarskuk sitting within bowshot right after I killed the first. The second had the charm. Good luck to you all.

I happened across him in the open area immediately in front of Lake Rathetear zoneline, near the gypsies.

There are cyclops and giant skeletons all around the central hill in this area that wander about.

He spawned 3 times for me within several minutes of killing, so he seems rather common.

He dropped the necklace only once out of the 3 kills.

This was on Rizlona classic era TLP.

you have slain tarskuk
you receive whatever as your split
you tell your group 'OMG he spawned again?'
tarskuk scowls at you ready to attack

i swear the second he fell he popped about 500 range away from his corpse. talk about odd. took down wiht 27 druid 30 mage and 25 warrior, about the same as a level 33 HG, somewhat resisted spells, resisted initial malaise.
34 wiz took him out when he was a noob

Spent 3 days camping this sucker on and off. Ran around the hill in the center by the gypsies and Zone to the Lake. Finally I decided I had enough of the camp and laid waste to 3 or 4 converging skelies directly between the camp, hill and zoneline. Immediately after the skelies fell, Tarskuk popped without a necklace, so I tried this again. In that area I killed every mob (which seemed to pop very fast when I started working them). A few minutes later another Tarskuk popped and got my necklace... good luck, hope this works for ya'll.
Took him at newly 34

Couple of my buddies and I zoned in from Lake Rathe, out for a bit of fun. I had been there several times from the same zoning and the place had always been scarce of cyclos. Well, there were first 5 and then 6 on tracking. I, 34 ranger at the time, my friends, a 36 ranger and a 34 Beastlord, suddenly found that there was a named cyclo, the one and the same above. I say, "Hey, there's a named cyclo here, we want him?" My buds answer in the affirmative, so I think to snare him and draw him back slowly. Snare works, so far so good, but then he passes a cyclo that just popped and awwaaay we go! Tar is snared, his buddy is not. And they move VERY fast for such large critters. Upshot was both rangers down, Beastlord able to zone and call up for rezz, and back to rethinking tactics.
Harmony does work on these freaks. BUT! make sure that when you have all the necessary crits harmonized they don't brush up or get near another harmonized crit after you snare him. Aggro, big time! Again one snared and the other not. This time we all zone out together, huffing and puffing and having a good laugh over how close that one was! Also to be noted, our, the other ranger's and my ensnaring root spells did NOT take on them, whereas the Snare did. Weird, but there it is.
BTW, did not realize until now that Tar-bubbe is part of the ivy etched helm quest. But now I do, and I'll be back, babeeeee! With a vengence! :)

Me (30 halfling warrior) and my friends, a 30 pally and a 33 ranger took him out easily without a healer. We zoned into rathe, I saw him immediately and we ran in and took him down. He didn't drop the charm, but then he spawned again, and while we were medding up for the fight, he walked away, I went to find him and found his corpse with the charm. The ranger came over and looted it and we were out. He hits pretty hard, about 77 max if I can remember right. He also had quite a bit of HP, I was hacking at him with Lammy + Centi SS and the ranger was using a BABS and the pally was using a Nathsar Greatsword and it took a few minutes.

Popped six times in short succession tonight. We'd down one, the second one would pop. Got six cyclops charms in about 20 minutes.

It seems to me that the place holder for him is the Giant Skelly that roams in the same area
PH
# Feb 06 2002 at 5:55 PM Rating: Default
The PH for Tarskuk is not lizzies, bears or skellies.

Its what common sense tells you, cycs. I listened to the advice of some of the posters in this thread and killed a whole lot of unecessary skellies and lizzies. Talk about boring!

He is easy to pop and almost always has the charm needed for ivy etched quest. Good luck!!

I was in RM soloing for xp only on two nights. The first night he never popped once, but zone was fairly empty. However, on the second night I was killing him, like we were feuding families. On this night zone was farily packed with eveyone and their friend camping hill giants and cyclops. Seen no one killing lyzards, or skellies either night.

OH, and he was soloed with a lvl 36 druid with 141 wisdom and +150 mana pool, an no mana stone. Just rooted till it stuck(took some dmg), snared till it stuck, drones of doom, imoliate, med, root, reapply, med, root/resist, root, reapply, med, root, med, root, med......

My heart was beating so fast at the end of this fight you would have thought I was there. Ended up OOM and one bubble of life left with regen on me.

P.S.: BTW Staff of Living Sand Rocks, Every druid should have one.

I don't know what makes him spawn. I do know we killed him (34 shaman, 32 warrior, full mana), and it took everything we had. He dropped the charm. He then spawned again less than an hour later, but I wasn't FOM, so someone else pulled him.

I solod him with my 45 shaman easily with my JBB, he was blue to me and reisted my roots fairly regularly, A 45 SoW can outrun him but be very little. As for spawn time i have no clue, i wasnt actually looking for him, he just popped and it was exp for me so i killed him. Just now found its for Ranger quest which is great cause of my ranger toon. Good luck killing him. He seemed to hit very weakly but might just be cause of my lvl and AC. Hit me for 70 once and in the mid teens most of the time.
Tarskuk
# Nov 29 2001 at 1:40 PM Rating: Decent
Every time I go into RM he is there. Even with no one in the area. Seems fairly common to me. At least on Veeshan.
RE: Tarskuk
# Mar 09 2002 at 8:36 PM Rating: Decent
yeah, killing him makes another one of him spawn immediatly, i was soloing skellies at 22 and got a 56 druid to come kill him, soon as he dropped his fooking clone spawned. it wasn't a problem for a lvl 56, but if you're lower lvl be careful
PH's & Spawns
# Nov 15 2001 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
Went into RM yesterday to hunt Tarskuk. Went in and headed to the gypsy camp. Told my group (lvl 30 Druid, lvl 27 Chanter, lvl 24 Mage, and myself Lvl 30 Ranger) that I would clear trash. I killed 1 bear, and 3 lizards and POP! Tarskuk appeared. Was looking for assistance from a true tank but could not find any. Druid was looking for assistance from Guildies and I said I'm pulling! (FEAR fell over the group lol)
I popped him for a crit 45 with my Trueshot and he came running. We dropped him in short time and I looted and he had the charm. A few minutes later he popped again, but we did not bother with him aws we had what we had came for.
Not sure if it was luck or what, but this worked for us.
Confused about this bugger....
# Oct 23 2001 at 9:54 PM Rating: Default
After reading all of this one might assume that Tarskuk is a common spawn. To some he may be, but that's certainly not my experience. I camped the area for 9 hours over 2 days, killing everything from Cyc's to skele's and all the little lizards scurryin about. Finally, on my 3rd day, just got in zone, group killed 1 cyc and 2 skeles and *POP* up comes Tarskuk. I'm not suggesting those are his PH's, I'm just saying that's what we killed. Have tried it since with no success.

BTW, killed Tarskuk... bugger didn't drop the charm. Hung out for another hour or so, he never popped again.

Maybe I'm just supremely unlucky... wouldn't surprise me really.
Where he Spawns
# Oct 07 2001 at 7:16 PM Rating: Decent
I was in Rathe mountains (of course) hunting this guy I was a lone 33 ranger so I had the help of anyone who was willing. As for where he spawns, I've only seen him spawn in one spot and that is if you are at the Lake zone head straight from there turn left a bit then stand by the gypsy camp from there face the hill in which the bandits are on, south I believe fromt eh gypsies any way on the "corner" of that hill and on the left side fo the corner almost at the top of the hill is his spawn point, as for his PH I'm almost certain it is a Lizard man that it is that spawns in that same spot, spawn rate i would say anywhere between 2 and 5 mins, rather fast. It is usually a mystic that i seen spawn. Anyway he was white to me at 33 so. I enlisted the help of a 49 iksar SK who was in the area killing HG's for the cash. The first one taht died didnt drop the charm the second did how ever. and shortly (1 or 2 mins) after we killed Tarskuk a second time (pulled to the oppisite side of the hill from gyspsies) we sat and meded and talk a bit soon i heard the giant footsteps while medding, it was another tarskuk that came over the hill. So what i gathered from that night was hes a fast spawn and a common one, best advice have a higher lvl help if solouing or have a group and kill every single lizardman (and bear) that wanders around that area.
Fluff and Crap
# Sep 11 2001 at 9:04 AM Rating: Decent
Okay, so,after all the strutting around, child-like crap and useless information, does anyone have any real information of his spawn rate, place holder, trigger, etc?

We now know he has about 2k hp, runs faster than SOW and is slightly resistant to root, snare, etc. This is good information, what is crap, however is all of this "my so-and-so killed him at such-and-such a level and you all are <expletive inserted here>," etc. This is NOT a bragging or bashing forum, its an information tranferance and comparison forum. If you feel the need to brag about your character, or cut others down, then why not do it in a character forum?
There, now that I've successfully upset all the children, lets get down to business, shall we?

Ok, I just came to this zone for the first time at 31. Saw Tarskuk, and pulled em. He was right by Lake Rathe zone. Then, when group was full up again, druid came back with him again....maybe 5 mins later. Still here while writing this, will post again if we get em again. It is about 11pm EST, on Tribunal.

in order to make giant skellies pop u must kill bears and lizzies, i would imagine dat it werks da same wit tarskuk. cuz i was huntin skellies once when he popped and jumped me. later on i was der wit a friend killin skellies and he popped agin. he was tough wit both of us aroun 33. pally had to use LoH on me and i used my HT. be careful of him.
