It looks like the "a Giant Spider" MOB's don't spawn as much as they used to in the old East and West Commonland zones. I've only been able to find a couple at a time and then wait for 30-60 minutes for more to show up. I'm wondering what their placeholders may be. Maybe if I knew that I could get more to spawn. Collecting the egg sacks is a pain for the newbie armor quest "Harvest of Venom"
The Giant Spiders in WK are good for XP and tailoring. (Lvl 8+ mage)
Get a small sewing kit and about 5 patterns for each item of armor (cap, tunic, sleeve, etc.) from the tailor shop in SQ. Head to south-central WK and start hunting giant spiders (they are pretty big and easy to find). Nuke to pull, then sic the water pet (immune to poison) on it. A few seconds later = dead spider. Loot the spider silk, then combine them 2 at a time (not stacked) in the small sewing kit. You'll make a silk swatch. Start making and stacking these til your tailoring skill is 26, then the fun begins. Put 1 silk swatch and 1 pattern in the small sewing kit, hit combine, and viola! You now have silk armor. You can wear it, or you can sell it to merchants for 'bout 4gp ea. You could also sell it to your caster friends for more $$.
Not one for aracnophobes. Some rather good exp though, and you can get quite a bit of money in the EC for thier drops. Thier Pititty Pittity Pittity noises are also rather soothing to hear as well.
Save silk to tailoring combine 2 of any spider(or spiderling)silk. You never fail... Trivial 16 on both. If you take Spiderling silk when you get 16 combine 3 thrents (combine 2 spiderlingsilks) you get a silk cord a silk cord + a pelt( ruined wolf or low quality cat, wolf or bear) to make a container ( 10% weight reduce)
I just want to add that they can be also much lower than 7th lvl. I'm currently lvl 7 Magician and I saw a lot which con'ed "might win", "upper hand" and even "easy" to me. So I suppose they start at lvl 4 or 5.
Sure that wasn't a woodland spider, if you saw it on the newbie side of the wall it was not a giant. Then again you may have weapons or armor that would give a distinct advantage.
O my god!!!!!!!!!!! Nacemi that really you!?!?!?!?! Its me Hincey from everfrost!!!!! I'm so sorry dude I started my bard and couldnt strop playing!(He's lvl 37:p) Well man if you read this hook up email me at stacyn88@msn.com!!!!
Well, if you enter BB from GFay and run towards "the crossroads" you will most likely already see a few. And when being at the Crossroads just run around a bit there (towards Goblin Camp in the south and the other Guardhouse in the north) and you should be able to find quite a few Giant spiders in a short time.

Not in my experience. I have NEVER in 11 characters growing up here, seen a giant spider in butcherblock. However, there are large spiders which are pretty uncommon.
These guys are not bad exp for upper low levels and can drop silk although my experience has been that they large spiders are more reliable concerning silk drops.
It depends. (I was doing this just yesterday.) I am a level 9 High Elf Cleric and was fighting these things in EC. Some were even to me (and gave about one blue bubble of exp) and some were blue (usually about 1/2 bubble of blue). Also, almost every one dropped 2 spider silks.
They spawn more often than that, but you do have to be in the right place. They are most plentiful in the north central part of the zone, but unfortunately that is where the brownie scouts roam. If you want to hunt these things, the best place is just a little to the west of the westernmost orc camp.
They are also quite plentiful in East Commons, but don't spawn much during the day. Evening and twilight (during the EQ day) is the best time to hunt there.
These spiders can be fairly dangerous to low level charachters, but don't worry, I've never seen one KOS anyone before. My advice to you newbies is to be careful what you do around them, but if you can take one use their spider silks and eitehr sell them to tailors or get them to make you some armor of some kind. Silks are in good demand for lower level tailors, hey take advantage and make some money.....
I stand corrected! There is one other item you can acquire from the corpse of a giant spider. The item is a giant spider venom sac, and it's a rare drop. It can be sold to a merchant (the usual fate for these things) or it can be utilized as a quest item for the extremely long and difficult Soulfire quest.
Mostly green at 12th a few are blue but rare. Again a easy kill for anyone who can heal - theposion is only a proublem if you get 2 monsters at a time.
Giant spiders provided experience for my mage up to level thirteen. Their poison is weak and not much of a problem, unless you're heavily wounded. Their only annoying attribute is that other giant spiders will attack you if they wander close to you when you're engaged in battle with one of their kind. As for items, the only things I have ever discovered on their corpses are spider legs (an essential ingredient for making candied spider legs) and spider silk (combine two of these in a sewing kit to make a silk swatch; never fails, and raises your tailoring skill to 16).
