Jyle Windshot  

There are two versions of Jyle Windshot, each with their own version of the same quest. This one in East Freeport appears to be somewhat broken which has caused all kinds of confusion over the years and IMHO shouldn't have been left in the game. For questing, use the version of Jyle Windshot in West Freeport, not this one!

East Jyle and West Jyle both offer a quest with a reward of either Wooden Shards for the Trueshot Longbow quest, or Wooden Heart for the Trueshot Rain Caller quest (it's random).

East Jyle's quest requires two gold and the newbie tunic of a Kelethin Ranger -- which is not feasible.
West Jyle's quest requires a store-bought Small Lantern.

East Jyle's quest penalizes you with negative faction.
West Jyle's quest rewards you with positive faction.

East Jyle identifies himself as a "rogue" aligned with the Freeport Militia, when attacked.
West Jyle identifies himself as a member of Protectors of the Pine aligned with Faydark's Champions.
Even though East Jyle and West Jyle are actually both on Faydarks Champions faction.

East Jyle burdens you with massive faction hits if killed.
West Jyle causes minor faction hits if killed.

Here is the NOT RECOMMENDED version of the quest, from East Freeport:

You have entered East Freeport.
You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'
Jyle Windshot says, 'Greetings, friend! Nice to meet you. I see you enjoy barging into other people's rooms. No problem. I enjoy the company. What are you looking for?'
You say, 'I am looking for treant wood'
Jyle Windshot says, 'So you want treant shards? I have them. If you want them I will trade you for them. Hmm... I will take two gold and how about a nifty Faydark Champion tunic. That is all I want. No more, no less.'
Give Jyle two gold and Dirty Green Tunic* (identifes as Faydark's Champions Tunic) which is the newbie tunic for a Ranger with a home city of Kelethin. You are not likely to have this item unless you've created a brand new character with all the appropriate attributes just for testing this silly quest.
Jyle Windshot says, 'Great doing business to you... Errr... I mean with you. Here are your genuine one hundred percent real treant shards. You can leave my room now.'
Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by -5.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by 1.
You receive 'Wooden Shards' OR 'Wooden Heart' (it's apparently random, with the shards being more likely).

I did this on my ranger just to see about a previous post that mentioned the bandits in association with this NPC
