Darn good question! Does anyone know please? I notice this post (are there gators in LR) has been up a long time. Oh well.
Gators

Gators do not attack on sight even though they con as scowling (you will notice this is the same in oasis) they will however assist one another and assist the lizard men if you are attacking them. Careful if you are pulling to the zone line because an alligator does patrol that hallway and will attack if you are in combat with a lizard man.

The gators in Cazic will attack on sight. Or at least they attacked my party. Unlike the crocs in Oasis, the gators were serious about about the 'ready to attack' part. Maybe it was just me though.
Best Class

No I think that Alligators are the best class in the game. They can deal out more damage than SK's or warriors their level with the same $ of equipment. When I play my alligator, I don't even need a group. And if I want a group, then I am always welcomed. Stop arugueing about crap classes like Warriors and SK's and realize the power of gators.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 04 2000 at 7:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Heh, well the only way to acually harness the power of these beast is with charm, and it works very well. As a druid i can lev/sow across the water , track the gator charm it,(to cast on somthing underwater dip under then lev out) and then choose a target, I usually pull the snared enemy in the water and let the gator have lunch, then after a few battles,( and they do last a few battles before dieing, even multiple foes) just fear kite it to death when charm breaks.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 04 2001 at 7:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i like playing my gator too but i cant figure out where to bank....I do no seem to have faction anywhere...
#Anonymous, Posted: May 16 2001 at 3:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you are high enough level you can bank in runnyeye, thats where I go to bank with my alligator of course it is a long way to runnyeye but with the starting strength of the gator class you can hold lots of coin before you need to bank. Oh yea, Oggok also seems like a good place to go, those ogres never bother the armadillos that wander through their city and they don't bother me either.

O.K., I'm a level 52 and one time i was wandering around cazic, and i went to the top of the temple in the 4c and dropped down into that mess of pools and such. While there i realized an odd thing, a Non roaming gator that conned me warmly and the weird thing was no other gators were anywhere near him. He was definatly a special gator, i tried hailing him, but nothing happened, any info?
Oh, by the way..
# Sep 16 2000 at 10:41 PM Rating: Decent
I've noticed that the lower level crocs are normally indifferent, while the higher end ones will attack you on sight.

Just a word of warning.
RE: Oh, by the way..
# May 15 2001 at 8:28 AM Rating: Decent
if when you say lower level you mean cons green to you then that makes sense since most mobs are smart enough to relize its suicide for them to attack you if you are a much higher level
Hah.. haha...

There are alligators and there are crocodiles. Though it doesn't list it (yet) there are also crocodiles in Lake Rathetear (near the empty cove between the gypsies and stone skeletons), but they are level 13 to 15 like the ones in Oasis.
Gators, not crocs

These are no problem for a mage 35. I solo'd them for all of 34 and 35 (hell), and it took me that long to get all the focus item base components (torch, broom, shovel, stein). Obviously saw some duplicates in the meanwhile. Lousy loot otherwise. A good focused lvl 35-generated earth pet can go toe-to-toe with one and lose moderately quicky. Will double-hit for 68 or so while your pet double hits for 32. Hitting it with 3 bolts (320+ dmg) will generally kill it. Resistance is pretty good, so opening with Malise and flame-shielding pet will help (and also help keep it aggro'd on pet). Good chance of being able to solo two of them with a good earth pet -- run to zone, or re-cast pet if you've already killed one gator. A mage can also melee one briefly as a last resort to save the pet some damage when you're finishing off a gator -- you'll die a little slower than if taking on 2 lizards in melee.

It helps to be a good swimmer and stocked and charged with waterstones. Non-book medding also reduces your drowning -- you see the spell expiring.

Mana is obviously the limiting factor -- otherwise you can heal pet and bolt until done.
#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 01 2000 at 5:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Okay to end the whole warrior verses Shadow knight thing. I play both, and they both kick *** but if your looking for a flesh shield play a warrior you are always the one who takes the damage period, secondly your the last to be looked for when it comes to a group. Its true after the damage of the casters and the healing of the clerics then they look for Warriors. the bad thing about sk's is people think your a tank and if you think your a tank your going to suck, trust me thats why you get a pet, to tank for you and he sucks at lower levels but trust me at level 50 your summoning a 35th level pet, your doing good. just tought I put my 2 coppers in hehe

Gator info
# Aug 03 2000 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
Just tried C-T last nite for the first time. I was walking around exploring, with the lizzies non-aggroing me, when one of these lil guys starts beating on me. You can imagine my surprise & dread when I conned it a nice, fat Red to my level 30 Ranger. Anyways, I just kept up the beating I was giving it & eventually, it starts to scamper (thank god for snare, hehe). So, these guys look tough, but actually don't have much that Hp's. Sorry, no other gatorz around to test the gang-bang theory, but at least I know for a fact, they do agro you. And I have mediocre, non-twinked equipment, so Rangers can dish out some decent damage, just gotta keep up those melee skills 8 ).
RE: Gator info
# Apr 04 2001 at 7:28 AM Rating: Default
VERY lucky, most will not be so lucky, a red con to a non twink is death, and these bad boys are no exception....They will GB you in the sewers, but do not chase them in the water, that is where most people get in trouble simply wait for them to return...If you have to run up the water tunnel hint.... Spiral as you go up and you get up quicker, but like many glitchy places be careful i have seen alligators aggro from very far away and come through the walls after me....hehe
Gators Aggro?
# Jul 30 2000 at 6:56 PM Rating: Default
Ok what i want to know is if you attack one gator, do the others jump in and help him? I'm sure i can solo 'em one at a time but I'm doubtful of my ability to take multiples. Are there any other creatures (lizardmen?) near the gators that will aggro? Half the time i go to CZ it's empty or only has a few people hanging around the entrance area.

I think the other alligators will !
When i attacking one with my air pet in gator pit,
and finally 5 alligators attacked me,
and i am luck enough to GATED,
with a 'regain concentration and continue casting'...
when i gated back, i just have half bub hp left......

they do help each other out and if you get to close to them they get pissed off and attack you. they do have great exp but be careful they hit in the 50's and have double attack. they are like a pretty high level warrior w/o the kick.

Last night I made myself invisible (I'm a magician 24) and started wandering about Cazic-Thule. All the lizards were indifferent to me, so I dropped down into the gator pool. I saw a gator, conned it, and to my surprise it conned ready to attack (and tombstone red, to boot)! I turned and fled in terror, sure I was about to die (I had been standing mere inches from the alligator when I conned it), but it never attacked. I think these have the same problem as the Oasis crocs, which is that they con KOS no matter what, but they aren't actually aggressive. I haven't fought any so I don't know if they're social, either.

They have the same problem as some other Mobs in the game, even though you are invs, they are ready-to-attack when they should be indifferent. I've noticed griffins have the same deal (imagine my surprise and relief when the ready-to-attack grif left me alone when i was close enough to pet him).

Ok you've all made your points. Can someone now kindly provide some more info on the Gators? Like, do they train? or Aggro? From what lvl will the Mage quest items drop (e.g. Runes will only drop from DW mobs in Oasis)? I'm sure everyone jumping to this page is after this sort of info, and not really interested in class debates at that time. Lol, dont need to guess what class I am do you?
RE: The friggin Alligators!
# Dec 04 2000 at 5:45 PM Rating: Default
yes. they train. they aggro. they can really take a bite outa crime. i am a level 39 magician. went down to the gator pit to try for a torch they drop for a mage quest. had air pet with me. never been to cazic before. 1 gator aggroed me before i climbed out of the water coming from the tunnel near the zone. by the time i got out of the water and started to return fire while waiting for my pet to catch up and save my **** i had lost 4 bubs of hp. thats over 600 hps. it conned blue to me at 39, musta aggroed a high lvl one. took 3 blasts at 288 damage a pop and my pet tanking to kill it. then while medding a stupid troll player ran past me with 4 gators on his tail. yes they train. i gated after they all went past. he died.

If you would have read carefully you'd have seen that Suddar Williams said that gators suck for exp when you're killing them in a group. What he didn't say was that warriors suck, which is what you are debating. Just bothered me that people were talking about what he didn't say like he had made a bad point
Alligators
# Jun 13 2000 at 4:42 PM Rating: Decent
Ummmmm... what the heck happened to data about the MOB here? This isn't a page to debate classes, it's a page to compile information about Alligators.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 30 2000 at 11:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I am not trying to dispute a warriors usefulness in a group. What I am going to say is that the underestimating of SK's is just plain stupid. I am an ogre sk and have been the main puller and main tank for 30 levels now. My group rarely has a warrior because not too many of them hang around CT due to the fact that SK's populate the zone. Just because in one instance or case a SK failed and a warrior succeeded that does not mean that all SK's can not due their job or visa versa. This could be due to how well the person plays his/her class. Just a little tidbit of advice: Do not judge a class based on one individual. If this is done then every class would suck and everquest would no longer be popular. This is not the case.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 25 2000 at 2:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was in a group fighting these gators, with 25 warrior and a 25 sk. Both of them had thier turns pulling the beasts. Only the sk ended up dying 3 times (my heals couldn't keep up with the damage he took) and dropped back to 24. The warrior had no problem (and only had bronze armor). Warriors are a necessity, without them your screwed.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 02 2001 at 9:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) BAH!!!!! That SK must have been a complete idiot! I am sorry to say so but I have been playing this class a long time now and although our defence sucks we can make up for it easily. If you pull controlled, tap your enemy, siphon your enemy, darken your enemy, the enemy WILL go down! Warrior defence is better but their offence is not as versatile and it is SO much fun confusing the gator by just jumping on the other side of the well. In case you havent noticed yet they dont know which way to turn then. That can give you 4 or 5 chances to cast lifetap, heck you could even bandage if you wanted to.
