it could have been a person with the scarecrow illusion on..... unless the thing didn't have a name.

I wish I could find someone killing this things for XP who would let me loot the no drop straw for my newbie armore. Alas almost every time I enter WK I am the only one in the entire zone. :-(

with a 10 mana (!!!) undead fear spell, these things are cake. you can kill them as fast as they can spawn with just darkness, fear, and a pet. still getting half a blue bubble at 19. they are so easy and safe, i'll probably stay with it at 20.

My L16 Druid went to L18 purely on these scarecrows. Snare, root, dot and med/dd or melee. They never once attacked me before I attacked. Even if I was fighting one, other scarecrows running past didn't agro at all.

Discovered too late that 'formidable' white cons are just as easy as blue, they just need extra mana to allow for more resists.

Very safe. Didn't die once. The loot is very poor but now I can safely and easily take out some bandits to make up for that.

Keep your SoW up though because contrary to an earlier posting, they will chase you to the QH zone line, if you pull a second by mistake. (My only train confirmed that <g>)

XP now much reduced at Level 18 so I'm moving on, will return with an alt though.

The older "a scarecrow" version of this mob was not aggresive. It would /con "attack" but you could walk up next to it without it aggroing.

The new "animated" version of this mob is aggresive and makes the Miller farm area dangerous for lower level people to hunt. Also, I saw what looked like Tiny Miller (the orge npc at the farm) attack one of the scarecrows, though since I was playing with my level 10 wizard at the time, I didn't go close enough to investigate.

To be more specific, it is one of the ingredients needed in the combine to make Stormhealers Breastplate armor, which is for low level Clerics who worship Karana.
Hard work for a Wiz

My L16 Wizard could take the ones who con Dark Blue, but not all the time - if Root doesn't stick, you shouldn't stick around either! Still, great Exp - half a Blue Bubble at 16. Oh, and they can gang up - I was killed by one in the back as I nuked his pal.
Bit of a shock the first time the Guards ignored them as well.
Finally, they don't seem to chase you too far - if you can outrun them for thirty seconds or so it's usually enough.
A tough mob for a solo Cleric

I am a lvl 16 cleric and I can tell you, root and stun won't help you at all with these bad boys. Not only do they hit for 35+ a crack [max] but you'll need full mana to take even the blue on. I lvl'd this morning off of blues, because a yellow with my health and mana bar full-just kicked my a$$.

I did read that spook the dead will work on them to give you some time to get a nuke off. Make sure you know your spell duration time though, you don't want to be in his face when he turns around. AND unlike the posting earlier, the hill Giants DO walk the Miller farm from time to time. I've never seen a swarm yet, but I watch for the warning. If you med in the field keep your ears open for things running by. A green grizzly at my level could easily kill me off with a couple of whacks if i'm out of mana and am just trying to med up.

The DROPS: This is interesting.. I've gotten 2 spells so far, words of ? tyrany is one of them, mushroom fungus, and 3 pages of a book [which im hoping is for an enchanter] and a rune stone. Ask me what to do with them I couldn't tell you, but keep them in case one of your friends needs them or perhaps try and sell them to a player because the merchants won't give you squat for them. The fungus you can sell to the merchant, it isn't worth much of course.

Happy levelling!

They are spells components for research, pure and simple. The different types are for different classes. I know though several of the pages, runes, etc can be use to make a celestial essence which is used in tradeskills and can be done by anyone. Mainly only higher levels spells will work though,I know tyrany wont.

I found the info through eqtraders.com and then a subpage has a essence list in case you want to consider hanging oto some of them

These are by far one of the most best monsters to hunt for the experience in your teens. For one, you can kite for miles around the jokers. I'm was a 14th level Druidess and I teamed up with a 15th level Paladin. I would snare (and they never resisted the first snare as long as it wasn't attacking first) and then he would do his little "spook the dead" kinda spell. While it was running away we would nuke it and repeat. The whole battle was over in a matter of seconds. Only down time on this though is meditating in between. We could do them all...even the reds in this fashion. Piece of cake!

Great Exp
# Jan 02 2002 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
I hunted these scarecrows from level 17 all the way to level 22 and always got great exp up until level 22. I'm a Barbarian Shaman and these were easy as pie to solo, seeing as how the other scarecrows won't come to the aid of another when being fought.
Here's another tip, especially if your a caster and have to med in between your crows...go down a ways to the Barbarian Fishing Village and buy yourself and pole and some bait. Sit on the shoreline while you meditate and fish up a storm. It's also safer to med on the shorline because you won't be bothered by wandering lions and HG's on the shoreline. Drops aren't great here but you can get some wonderful exp very fast here if your going solo.
Have fun!

I was testing out my brand new port spells, and ported to Surefall to say hello to old buddies in QH. Anyhow, I decided, while I was there, I'd go to WK to see if there was anything to kite around on the big open plains. The lions were non-agressive since they were green to me. I decided to check out the Scarecrow field and saw one of these guys (standing over one of those hay things). He conned dark blue to my 19 druid so I went after him. Not hard at all. My lightning spell hit every time for max dmg, and he was snared pretty easy. I recommend you druids looking for fun come on over to WK and kill some Scarecrows!
Hmm...what about those scarecrows?
# Dec 03 2001 at 9:42 PM Rating: Default
I Kited these things in the WK fields for quite awhile. I am positive there are none as low as 12th level though. To my 16th level Druid they conned some dark blue, some white and some yellow. I would say they have a level range of 15 - 17. Also when you con them they come up "Ready to attack", yet I could walk right up to one and it would not so much as give me the time of day. They are not only good for magic research classes it is a good hunting ground for solo druids as well. The treasure is not so hot but the xp. cannot be denied. You can kite even the yellows, with so much room to move and nothing to bother you (only lions will attack a druid in this area, at least so far though I have heard stories of a swarm queen coming to this area from time to time). If you do run into trouble (should only happen against yellow con's) don't run to the guards, they are no help at all, you have to run to qeynos hills and zone. The only time I had any trouble at all was if I was extremely unlucky and a yellow continued to resist my Ignite spells for low damage. In close combat, if it comes to that, they require a magical weapon to hit and will cast fear on you. The most damage one did on me was 32 points in a hit. I enjoyed the low stress fighting here and would recommend it if you are not too hard up for cash.

I hunted also last night some scarecrow in WK and they conned white to my 14 WIZ, some yellow or red, never had a blue con. The XP is really good, i got 1,5 blue bubbles for one kill. The lions would attack me, too, but should be for a 16 Druid no prob (they are blue to me at 14). The swarmling can be dangerous. I got killed once at level 12 even though they are green to me. But... they are many, 30-50 i would say... and they attack every high level PC (AFAIK). I usually root/nuke the scarecrows and do some melee damage if they are almost down. They hit hard for 25-30, so if the root wears off you have to root again. My experience is that the root lasts long enough to cast 3 or 4 Shock Of Lightning, the rest can be done by melee (if you have a magical weapon!).

As a level 17 to 19 mage, I hunted these scarecrows while I was in Western Antonica on visit from my home in Freeport. In spite of their Creepy High Step walk, they tend to be pretty safe to hunt at this level. This is due to the fact that most other creatures in the area are green; also I've never been jumped by a scarecrow whom I didn't attack first. Since they drop Words it's kind of a nice target for mages to solo. And you can sell any junk items to the farmer who works the field there.

The only thing I didn't like about them was that they are so few and far between. While the only place you have to look is on the field, this field is large and hard to see across. Also there's usually only about 2 or 3 'crows in the field at any given time. Expect to spend alot of time roaming that field to find them.
Easy for a Mage... go figure

I went from 16 to 17 without even coming close to dying. They give me words, and I can generally take any 'crow on, even those conning yellow. They also hand over words every now and then, and those are, for me at least, priceless. I guess these guys are custom-tailored for a mage to fight.

I am a HEF Ranger with an Axe of the Iron Back. I hunt with 13th level mage. We take out about 3 per hour. These things are Good Exp, Lousy Loot, and they dont seem to help each other out. If you need Ex-P Miller's Farm is the place to be.

Actually Pages are used for Enchanter research spells not magician research spells. Page 23 left and right halves are combined together (in a Tome of Endless Enchantments) to produce the spell Levitate.

All INT casters collect their respects research material.

CLASS | COLLECTS
------------------------
Enchanters | PAGES
Magicians | WORDS
Necromancers | WORDS
Wizards | RUINS

Both WIS and INT casters can also obtain their spells by killing a monster. The monster has a chance to drop a spell. These monsters are level 50+ and drop 50+ "DROP" spells. These monsters are also in some of the toughest zones in Norath and require experienced groups, though not always.
