I'm a lvl 14 Cleric, and I hunted these guys for the first time last night...solo. They conned everywhere from high blue to tombstones. The best way I figured to kill them was to start with Expulse undead, and melee with my Runed Totem staff (gotta have a magic weapon)until i could cast Spook the Dead. While they run away, I med until the spell wears of, then Expulse again on their way back...repeat until dead. I can usually get two Sooks off clean,, then after that they resist it a lot. Good idea to keep Expulse and Ward Undead memmed...Ward isn't as powerful, but it casts quick enough to cast between rounds of combat. I stick with the blue and white cons for soloing, as these guys hit pretty hard. Well, that's my 2cp...have fun with it!

I hate giving up the secret but Scarecrows are the way to go in this sector between levels 17-21. They give good experience, have a small agro, Hill Giants do not come on the Miller farm and best of all are not camped a lot. They are tough though, require a magical weapon and do not give up a lot of loot. But the nifty thing is that while you are on Miller's farm there is Hay! Give the Hay to Heniane (usually in the Hut on the East side of the field but she does wander) and you will receive a pittance, good faction and exps. Heniane will also buy you rusty loot for a good price and even has food occasionally. You can only pick these items up one at a time but there are at least 4-6 drops a day and as you hunt the scarecrows do not forget to pick up the hay. Do not kill any of the Millers, particularly Furball the Gnoll who has been adopted. Tiny or Cleet Miller are a handfull if you **** them off!
While the Hill Giant does not come on the field or by the water I once medded just off the field to the West and sure enough the Hill Giant had me for lunch before I could even stand up. Med near the water and you are safe from everyting.
If you need more than eating money go hunt bandits for a while then come back. You can advertise for a bandit group while medding from the scarecrows. There is a rarely camped badit camp east of the Miller Farm along the river as well as ogres if you have a strong group. Good Hunting!
I've looted a Rune of Falhalem and various Words. It seems a pity to sell them to merchants. Isn't there any class who needs them? Also, though it's true the 'crows usually ignore each other's fighting, on occasion one will join in the fight. What an unpleasant surprise <(
My brother and myself are both level 13. We've killed quite a few of these scarecrows that were tombstones to us. Granted, we both had magical weapons (both damage 6 only though). I should point out that my brother is an enchanter and I am a shaman. If his animation doesn't get killed, we can take them pretty well. If the animation gets killed early on, well, let's just say we limp back to the barns to heal up. We've killed at least 3 tombstones this way so far.
They double hit for 30 if i remember right. I am a shaman so i just nuke kited them then frenzy them to death occasionally i had to run. I was 15 when I started them stayed with them until 19. they have an attack that looks like fear but it just is a long stun about 5 seconds.
im a lvl13 war and was able to take him out by myself with the kodiak however i did have a shammy who had to hit me with heal about every 60 sec ,,,,,came down to a last hit ,,,lucky i gave him the last hit or death would have become of me
Well, kiddies. Here's what I know about the scaredycrows. I've been camping them for about a week straight. I have never been aggroed on. Ever. They don't help each other at all, and give great xp. Also, I've never seen them drop straw before. What I suppose happened to those who got it off them is that some wandering prankster picked up a sack of straw lying on the ground and handed it to the scarecrow. I know, because I've given the straw to wandering giant beetles, fire beetles and wolves. Also, since the dyed armor came on the scene, these boys drop the sarc fungus needed to make one of the dyes. Some form of red, I assume, but I don't know which. I've gotten 6 of them in about 24 hours of solid camping, so they're a pretty rare drop. A good way to make extra money, selling the fungus to blacksmiths and poison makers too busy to wait for the drops. Just my 2 cp.

The scarecrows are undead ranging from 12th-17th. They can only be hit by spells and magical weapons, including hands and feet. Use whatever tactics you use to fight undead. They cast "fear" so be prepared. They roam the field where the Millers harvest and so use "tracking" or "sense undead" to find them. They range far and wide. They rarely drop straw, but straw can also be found randomly on the field. They can be solo'ed at level 19 or 18 with a high level pet. If solo, rest off the field, just in case. In a group, rest wherever you want. :) Don't rely on resting with the guards, because they don't help you when bandits attack. I've been attacked by bandits while resting in between the 2 guards, and they didn't even lift a finger to help me.
pally cleric team makes for great crow hunting around 14-18th lvl, after that you can solo, i recomend "Sense the Dead" and "Ward Undead" or ranger Track ability, they are hard to find, happy hunting
I've killed tons of scarecrows with both my wiz and ranger and not a single one drops anymore than just a rusty weapon, words, pages, and runes. The straw is found laying in the field and can be given to Heina Miller for some change and very good faction.
I just made it to the "other" side of Antonica from Freeport and found these guys. I'm a level 19 Paladin, and they con green, low and high blue to me. I like them because even killing green ones visibly moves my XP bar. Only issue I have with them is running back to the guard tower to meditate and heal after each one, but the XP is worth it.
BTW, I've probably killed 20 by now, and I haven't seen one piece of straw...
I've been soloing here as a paladin since lvl 17 (I'm now at 19 on my way to 20). I agree on the excellent exp.
I've found that meding at the water is the way to go. Grab your fishing pole and med away. My fishing is in the 60s now and I get 3 silver profit per fish. Very nice way to kill the time as well. Don't make the mistake I made of killing frostbite though. The Barbarians won't sell to you. I now have 120 bait and 4 fishing poles on me as Quenos is a long way away.
The other nice thing about this area is that you can sell your loot to the Millers in the area. Never have to worry about becoming encumbered!!!
Just a reminder to the Rangers and Druids out there, the undead see through your Camo. I was running through WK from Qeynos to get my body in SK and luckily just happened to con one running around and noticed it still scowled at me, ready to attack (even con at 16). I was lucky enough to get around it before it aggro'ed on me. So be careful!
The straw is also dropped by any of the Millers should you feel inclined to destroy them. It also spawns randomly in the fields of the Miller Farm. It is for the Halfling only belt: Belt of the River, which is a 5ac 5str 5sta -10sv cold 17charges of Summon Drink belt that only 4 types of halfling can wear.
