Takes approximately 20 minutes to solo for a 52 bard. Your best bet is to use a SoW potion and run backwards from him in circles around the island. This way, you don't outrun him, it's hard to get a camera view that will work around the whole breadth of the island.

And all you guys talking about half a blue bub. He's nowhere near that.

Out of 6 of him, I got 3 ruby crowns and 2 fire emerald rings. Still looking out for BD's and D's

Drops Blue Diamonds,

NOT caster, Hits hard and doubles, may even quad.
Runs quite slow, and has a bucket load of hps.

We had 2 Wiz (one with ice comet), 2 War, Shammy, Druid.

SOOOO easy didnt even have to use disc or anything. Also good faction form the gobbies, maxed all of mine real quick.

Nice camp and Easy peasy kill with a group.

Greetings Norrath!
I had the opportunity to put my money where my mouth is yesterday after bragging to a guildie that I though I could solo this big lizard. It took a bit of doing but he lost the long (26 min) fight. First off, details:

14K HP

Melee only, low resist for me (lvl 55 SHM)

Slower than my SoW by a long shot.

Buffs I bothered to have on: Dex, Stam, Tali of Kragg, SoW, Lev (not required but nice), and CHA (yes, charisma). Seems some folks did a test on this and I think it has helped my spells stick a bit better. Who knows for sure, but why not. And finally Regrowth.

Spells memmed: Insidious decay, EB, Plague, regen, Can III, root (yes, good old low lvl root), lev (in case I need to run away over the water, or gate if you want).

The way it went for me: Root, decay, Dot, dot, root, dot, dot, etc. Make sure you wince or med at every opportunity. I had to be in melee range to use epic dot so I quickly dropped that plan and went back to old faithful. After about 20 mins it was dead and I ended up with one bub of health due to wincing down but was never in danger and never lower than 20% mana the whole fight with 212 wis. First drop was a diamond and a black sapphire so I felt it was well worth it. EXP too)

I did not bother killing gobbies, I just waited for the gobbie sacrifice (PH) to respawn and kept him down till the big guy showed. Spawn rate was about 12 mins I believe.

After this kill I invited a druid buddy (lvl 45) to come out. We owned this spawn for about 6 hours. Ended up with 1 BD, 3 diamonds, 5 BS, 10 (yes ten) jacinth, 1 crown, 1 necklace and lots of scales. Not a bad take in all and with the added bonus of EXP).
Good hunting

which island does he spawn on?
is he a caster?
what kind of MR does he have?

After killing the big guy for a while I can state the following:

1) His placeholder is "aqua goblin sacrafice". He or sacrafice seem to have a chance to spawn in any of the goblin spawns, but if the sacrafice is up - NO Alliewsaur. So kill gobbies, but pay special attention to the Sacrafice.

2) I have a theory that when all but one of the gobbie spawns are full, the last one is either him or the sacrafice. This is because if I madly chase gobbies killing them as fast as they spawn, he can take 45 mins to respawn, but if I sit and wait 10 minutes (long enough for all to respawn) he or sacrafice seem to pop every time. Still testing this one... let me know if you have any input.

2) He has rare drops of blue diamonds, diamonds, jacinths, rubies, black sapphires, star ruby earring, sapphire platinum necklace, and ruby crown. Also drops research for level 49 spells, a ton snake scales and lizard meat.

3) Strategy: I use root / dot. He moves too fast, even snared and I hate chasing him all over the island while I try to med and stay in casting distance. I hit him with Paralyzing Earth (root) first (more on this later), then Dooming Darkness (snare). Then DOT's of Ignite Blood, Splurt, and the occasional Vexing Mordinia (Bond-tap) to recharge.

The key is keeping him snared - I use a stopwatch so I know when its gonna fade. This big guy is also SMART. If you hit him with even one snare or damage spell he is gonna ignore your pet and go after YOU as long as you are in casting distance. This is why I lead with root - it seems to fail less than snare, and if it does fail, does no damage so pet can keep him busy until I CAN snare him.

I have used his aggro to my advantage sometimes when root breaks and I lose snare before I can get him frozen again. I just run around the island (he's slightly slower than jboots) letting my pet hit on him while he chases me. Finally when I get far enough ahead to be out of casting distance, he beats on pet, so I turn around, fear him (he's already coming towards me at this point), snare, tell pet to back off, and re-root his scaley butt. Once when I was OOM I just ran around staying out of reach until pet killed him from behind. I don't know if a standard pet could keep up with him though, my pet is called using the necro focus item and runs a lot faster than normal pets.

Oh, and as to why I'm root / dotting with a pet standing by my side? Stupid gobbies are all over the island and will start hitting on me if I sit to med. Skellie keeps them from interrupting me while I kill the big guy. They'd be a real pain if they didn't give such great faction hits (gnome, dwarf and elf guards).

Killed him today then logged: will do him again one more time then im gone: aprox. 15-18mins of constant singing with several trips around the island/some snares near the end to get him to finally turn around for:
Saphhire Neclace, 2 scales of some kind, meat and grimoir page 400.
Boring to solo.. but the 130pp necklace is o.k.
Caught me a couple of times and hit for max 132.
Approx. 1/2 blue in 52 is ok also.

He is on the island with a bunch of his Aqua Goblin friends. His walks around the temple, and to get to the island, get on the boat in BB that's on its way to FP, stay on the left side of the boat, (the side you get on the boat at the BB dock) and when you pass the island where you stop in OOT, stay on, in a little bit you'll see a island with a temple on it, jump off the boat and wait for him to pop. You usally don't have to wait at all, since no one camps him and he's always up. He always stays around the temple. I found this out when I fell off the boat and had to swim to this island =\

#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 03 2001 at 11:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well that's your problem, son: you play on Drinal. If you were gonna give Everquest an *****, you'd stick the hose in the Drinal server. And why is it that people think calling other people a newbie is gonna hurt their feelings, or embarass them? You have no idea what level my characters are, so know your role and shut your mouth. Also, why is it that people always talk about "a rogue and his epic?" Is that an admission that rogues are only useful once they get their epics? (and I can't see any guild of good standing wasting so many hours on a rogue weapon, after all: a rogue with epic is still a rogue =) Heh, as a shadowknight you are the bottom of the ladder, so you have no choice but to group with rogues, no one else wants your useless ***. So stop being so peeved at me, just because your mom has more balls thrown at her than Chipper Jones at batting practice, and mind your own damn business.

Me and a bunch of guild friends solo this guy for fun sometimes (had a group of all 50+ full too..so he was no prob =P). I'm a 51 druid and i partner with a 49 necro to kill this sucker fairly easy. They nerfed him, he used to drop Blue Diamonds very commonly (1/4 my friend said) but they nerfed him down and he now has a PH that might spawn instead of him. And he has 14k health, generally low resistance and can double for 137. The best way we found to kill him is just to nuke, dot, and fear. Hope this helps someone somewhere sometime =)

How to Solo this guy at Level 49 (Nec)
# Jun 18 2001 at 3:37 PM Rating: Default
Ok I started to think of coming after this guy when I found out what blue diamonds were selling for. I had all my 49 spells and a set of Jboots so I thought what the heck Im up for it. Heres the method I used I hope it helps all you ghetto 49 necs like I was at the time.
1. Jboots, Diamond Skin, and your Arch shieldng.
2. Dooming Darkness works better due to the cheaper casting cost (If resisted run and try to fear and recast) USE A STOPWATCH TO FIND OUT WHEN SPELL IS ABOUT TO DROP-this will save you
3. Fear & Lich
4. Pet and Debuff with Scent of Darkness
5. Ignite Blood & Astoyle
6. When hitpoints get low Bond of Death
I had a 85% win rate against this guy which is pretty good with the amount of spells resisted by him. 10% draw and a 5% I got waylayed when fear failed rate. I hope this helps you guys remember the diamond skin will save you. Peridots may be kinda expensive but so is trying to get a cleric to Rez you in OOT. I hope Im not forgetting anything, anyway when you hit 51 Splurt makes this spawn cake, dont think ive ever lost to him since Heretic status.

After having played EQ for over 2 years now, I've gleaned much information on the individual classes. I have concluded that rogues are completely useless. I've never grouped with a rogue who was effective, or at the very least, didn't mess up. I've never seen a rogue out-damage a warrior (even though every rogue claims they can); it somewhat defeats the purpose of having a "damage dealer" in your party if they aren't doing hardly any damage. Also, their pickpocketing has cheesed me off for the last time (Verant Int. says the pickpocketed money comes from a different stash, but everyone in the game knows it reduces the amount looted off the corpse.) There are only 2 reasons for being a rogue: 1) To wear a mask that makes you a Dark Elf (whoopdeedoo!! why not just make a Dark Elf in the first place??) and 2) To justify the existance of every other good class in this game (e.g, Necromancers wouldn't be so good if Rogues didn't suck so bad, like Beavis and Butthead said: "You need stuff that sucks to have stuff that's cool.") I once witnessed a level 19 Necromancer kick the crap out of a level 29 rogue. THAT'S TEN LEVELS DIFFERENCE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! What did the rogue do, unplug his keyboard or something? To make matters worse, rogues continue to slide downward on the scale of usefulness, and I will continue to stay away from this class and just prod it with a sharp stick.

Wow, playing for two years, and you are that uneducated about a rogue!

We routinely kill some of the bigger dragons in ToV, and parse the log files to flaunt our prowess. Coming out on top in damage is usually the wizards because of DB, depending on how you count damage next is either going to be a warrior, or a rogue. Warriors will usually inflict more damage, but most of their damage will be secondary damage from damage shields. If you are counting pure melee, it is no competition. A rogue's damage output is far superior. Let's see, rogues are great for CR too.

I'll take your word that you have been playiing for two years, but you sound as though you haven't gotten a character past level 35 or so. Your comments are ignorant and biased. It is very difficult to take your post serious with the lack of information you post to support your claim.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 24 2001 at 12:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) "We routinely kill the bigger dragons in TOV..." Well Mother Tunare in a taxi cab, you're quite a pro then. To kill them over and over again, I'm willing to bet: 1) You are still a virgin 2) You are unemployed, and you owe me thanks because 24% of my paycheck every 2 weeks goes to feed your lazy ***. And lack of information? A level 29 rogue lost a duel to a level 19 necromancer, that's a ton of proof right there. And look at it this way, how long do warriors have to shout for a group? (Not very long) How about a rogue? (Forever and a day) Rogues and backstab is like paladins and Lay Hands... it's a good skill meant to equalize a mass of imperfections, outright failures, rather. Rogues have no AC and no rogue in his life can outdamage a wizard, let alone a magician. Rogues ARE very good for CR simply cuz they suck and die alot, they are used to it! So stop playing pocket pool in between Ancient Cyclops spawns and GET A JOB U BUM! =)

Heh, its ok, most newbies think the way you do, but once you get up with the big dogs youll see that a good rogue is indespensable (and no I dont play one, I know this from working with them)
A level 55+ rogue in IDEAL CONDITIONS can almost outdamage a Wizard chain casting Ice comets. This class is no joke. If you think otherwise, you just need to get high enough level to leave EC and stop camping those poor orcs, travel the world a bit and open your eyes.

I was in kael with my monk and a fellow guildmate who is lvl 60 with his epic does so much dmg that whichever group he is in determines the exp group no matter what. My group consisted of me (55 monk), 53 ranger, 51 warrior, and a 52 ranger and a cleric. There was also another melee group with similar classes, and also a caster group with 2 wizards and a mage and enc. Well since the rogue wants to be fair he would often switch from our group to the other melee group and even to the caster group, now when he was in the caster group they got exp, and same with the other melee group, but when he was with us, we got exp even with the wizzies nuking it, so trust me, they are major dmg dealers, and they can outdamage casters with the right gear

Disregarding the fact that this is off-topic:

You state in your rant that people 'mess up' in some way or do not play their class correctly (general impression I got). If this is the case, then you are criticizing those who play the class. An unfair generalization in my opinion, but ok. Still, I dropped that class at level 20 due to, at the time, what I considered to be inadequate tank power. Only now, 30+ levels later with other characters do I see the full potential of a good rogue (or rouge for some others). They do indeed outdamage my warrior and greatly decrease the time a battle takes. In a recent raid I was grouped with a rogue equiped with her epic and we ended up being the exp group despite the fact that we were without a heavy nuker. I am sorry, but I have to disagree with your outlook on the class. Even so, you are certainy entitled to your opinion.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 07 2001 at 5:15 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I might be crazy but being a wizzy my favorite hunting partner is a rogue YES A ROGUE heres how you do it 1st wizzy snares and one big nuke i.e. the biggest aggro you have even if it is a stun spell, then you run away if you have boots sit down for a few secs (this keeps aggro high) all the while rogue is BS and dealing big damage and if mob should turn on rogue 1 quick nuke places aggro where it should be. there is no need for a healer or chanter as rogue does 90% of damage and is rarely hit and wizzy finishes the fight with 80m or more if medding during fight, just something to think about before you bad mouth another rogue. by the way there are people in EVERY class that make said class look useless IMHO
