Shaman soloing these?
# Jul 14 2002 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
Was wondering if I stood a chance against these things at level 44. I've got about 1500hp self buffed, almost 800 ac, 180ish wisdom. And if it helps any, I'm pretty good at soloing(Can tank hill giants with ease =D)

I heard these things and gornit were pretty good money here. How long do you think it'd take me to get 12-14kp to buy a jbb? :)

Tried soloing one today at level 45. Very tough =(

I used up a whole bar of mana, a pet, and also lost quite a bit of hp :( Ended up getting help finishing it from a guildy who wanted revenge ;)

Anyway, I only got 12 gold, no other loot, and crappy exp. So I'm not soloing these again unless I have to heh.

btw, got about 1/4 of a blue at 45 for the kill.

Bah! I'm a 52 warrior (just recently dinged, might I add) and I can solo these things effectively. You just have to have the right toys and the testicular fortitude to do it. Here's what I took with me:

Ikky Regen BP = regen
Enbalmers Skinning Knife = bandages
Bloodpoint = lifetap
Silken Whip of Ensnaring = snare
Frostbringer = AC Debuff
J-Boots = runspeed
Invis Potion(s)
Thurg Gate Potion(s)

There's a trick to soloing as a warrior that I've learned over time which saves you from a lot of grief. The single biggest problem with soloing as a melee class is getting adds when mobs run. If you can snare, and the mob starts running near an add, just stop attacking and sit (out of the adds aggro range, of course). When you're kill comes back for more after regen'ing a few HP's, you should also have a few regen'd yourself, and the fight will be a little easier. Be patient, and don't get too many adds, and you'll be fine. And remember, when all else fails, it's nice to have your toys to save your *** (like gate potions and clicky-stuff)

I was riding from FP to BB on the boat and was looking out over the water with my friends and what do I see standing on one of the islands looking very creepy? This big lug and I was only a lvl 4 mind you so it kinda freaked me out.
It was also my first char in EQ at all so I was half scared out of my wits. Luckily the kind monk on the boat calmed me down ;).

P.S. This is just a pointless little story from a while ago.

A 44 Mage using focused Earth CAN solo these, but I highly recommend against it. Wait til 49, your pets will be much more powerful by then and you won't burn mana as fast :)

I am a 51 monk with 960ac and 1850hp and Adamantite club and Spiked velium mallet and I solo them just fine. Just make sure you have lots of bandages.
Pretty easy

I just started soloing here at lvl 49 these guys are pretty easy I pull with cascading darkness then root aystole BOD and lich while the my pet tanks em. They do have alot of hps but the max i've seen em hit for is 76 or so and thats with a low AC. I get better exp off of them then i did in DL plus the the loot is better in a couple hours i got 2 bubs of exp and made a total of 550pp with the coin they drop plus the gems

I, 53 Shammy an Terris Thule, was introduced to these guys half way through 53. After some experimentation I found the easiest way for me was to have myself buffed with Bear Form, SoW, HoS, and Regrowth. Pet just has HoS. Then I simply pull with Turgur's and let him hit me while I use my JBB. I rarely lose more than a half bubble of health and use about a half bubble of mana. When he turns to run, if there is another close, I'll root. If not, then just a couple more JBB shots does the trick. I can usually take about 6-8 before I decide to med. Using this technique has gotten me an average of 1 blue xp in about 60-70 min. I realize this only helps Shammies who spent a lot of pp on a JBB but it's just my 2cp for anyone interested.

I tend to hear alot of no use the earth pet, which in my experience isnt that great especially if its a tough fight why?Simple rooted mobs fight to the death, there is no running time for the mob when they get low my preference by far would have to be water slow helps alot

Translating this post into English,

I think he is saying that he does not like the earth pet compared to the other pets. This is because earth pets will cast root and rooted mobs will fight to the death, causing damage to your pet as they fight. The other pets don't root, so the mob causes less damage to the pet.

I have a different view. Earth pet is ok cuz a rooted mob can't run (duh) to attack you after you hit it with a nuke. Also when chain petting it is nice to have the mob rooted after '/pet get lost' is typed in. If you don't know why, don't worry bout it, you are not a pet useing class or you are a moron.

Also pets regenerate faster than we Magicians can regain mana, so why would I worry about pet damage? No idea here.

Also a non-running mob will not be able to run to his friends, duh again.

Bottom line: If you know what you are doing, any pet will work, some better than others. If you don't know what you are doing, you will post messages that argue about which pet is better because you are a moron.

LEVEL INFO
# Mar 14 2002 at 11:47 AM Rating: Decent
The level info on these is a bit off. Strangely enough these gargantuan mobs get no bonus to damage of any kind. They hit my monk for a maximum of 76. Using the (mob level x 2) + 2 method that would make them at most level 37. I believe some only hit for 68 max but not sure. Anyway they are either a level range of 34 - 37 or 35 - 37. They are still light blue and low con dark blue at level 52. If you are looking for phat lewtz... they never drop more than 6pp cash with an average of about 2pp cash per kill.

Rare chance though of a jewelry item with average value of 60pp.

I was hunting these for the first time today and the split between 4 of us on these where about 2-10pp per kill. Had so much money by the time we had hunted 2 hrs i had to start dropping gold. The 10pp was the more common split between us.

These bad boys have a ton of hps, but I was able to finish one off by snaring, rooting, DOT, nuke, med, repeat. Took just about all my mana. Maybe around 5K hps. The problem is, where do you run to when you run out of mana?

Not really anywhere to run to bro. Better have a good Evac. or Gate spell ready. Against my dark beliefs though, here's a little secret..... when you get in trouble, if you can make it to the little Row Boat, jump in and see what happens. ;+D

ranger solo?
# Feb 13 2002 at 10:49 AM Rating: Excellent
can a 52 ranger solo these with swarmcaller? About 890ac (buffed), 970atk, only 96 dex, so I get beat on a while before it lands.

Edit: these are soloable at 52. a lot of downtime after a fight if slow doesn't proc, but you'll live if you're careful.

I have read the post and they all seem to be necro/mage/wis/sham soloing thies things. I wanted to let you know that as a 51 cleric , am able to solo thiese things. I wrath (516 dd) root, med nuke med over and over. as he damages me iuse my donals arms to heal. It took 10 nukes to kill him so 5160 damage and a little over 5 min to do it, but it is possable to do as a non-soloing class. Just my 2cp but thought you would like to know we cleric are not pushovers.

Bleh...casters only to solo these things? Just to let any Paladins out there know, get out your Valor of Marr self haste and your DW Helm for heals and get to slicin and dicin. They'll fall fine for ya. Just keep that root a stickin while healing. Camped them for hours...never used my LoH. Watch out for the named though. Probably have to use LoH with him. Anyway, hope this helps the holy knights out there. :)

Agreed!!

Just some problems... They are immune to all our nifty stuns, which I find to be a pain when I have to root/heal sometimes when a fight is going badly. Adds - sometimes I find it necessary to root. These guys like to flee, and although they don't group, their buddies will jump in if you're forced go chasing about the island.

Never tried Quag, theres usually someone waiting to for him to pop for their quest.

Ok, I've seen several classes solo these guys, including Necro, Druid, Mage, and even Ranger.

So SF Isle is not just for Necros. I've killed these guys with my Necro in my late 40's. (Snare with 29th lvl Darkness, pull to AC Isle and Fear then let pet tank. After 49, use Bond and Pact, on one of the fingers of SF Isle) Oh, and I have tried to fear kite on SF Isle. It can be done, but it gets really ugly, unless the Isle is very crowded with other players. You are almost guaranteed an add or 2, because the damn things like to run to the middle of the Island. If you really want to risk it, try it on the east side of the Isle, it's easier there. NEVER on the West side, they head right into the middle right away.

As a druid, you can deal with these guys anytime after 45, if you have the Drones Bracer, or better still the root amulet. Total HP on these things seems to be just under 5k. After 49, a druid can quad these thing, but it's pretty damn hard, and you end up OOM, relying on your mana free items. Trust me, this is a fact. I used the Lum staff, Drones Bracer, and the Root amulet and dealt with 5 of them, (I got an add :)) and the fight lasted nearly 20 mins. I think I was 50 at the time. You don't really have the mana to quad them until after 55. I'm there now, actually at 57. I'll try a quad when I can get 4 of them. (It's busy there)
I can't speak for Mages, as I've never played one high enough to try SF's. But I know they can do it too, by parking near the Isle's edge and pulling to the pet. Then just beating them down where they stand.

As for rangers... You'd be surprised what a good ranger can do.

Oh, some pointers. Don't pull Quad (He drains mana), or the Tainted (He spawns corrupted when he dies) or the Corrupted (He's lvl 52, summons and hits for 150 or so)

Any questions? :)

Boats and Aggro
# Nov 19 2001 at 12:54 PM Rating: Default
I know for a fact that once you are on a boat you are fairly safe from mobs that are melee only. I spent a great amount of time hunting wisps in erud's crossing. One morning being the only one on the island, I was solo'ing them. (My mage was lvl 16 at the time.) She managed to aggro 3 of them on her pet in short order. I hauled but trying to find a little help. Upon reaching the docks I found the boat was there, the wisps were closing on me quickly having eaten my pets lunch.

Not finding help I immediately ran for the boat and made it. The wisps were unable to get on the boat to reach me. I'm not sure if they could have found the entrance to the boat off the dock they could have reached me or not. The wisps then followed me to the zone into odus bonking on the boat. (Wisp noise and occasional thumps)

Boats are targettable items unlike houses and I suspect receive special treatment than other items.

I recall seeing a patch message not that long ago about how melee is now impossible on boat. Something about a balancing issue. Would explain why the wisps couldn't come play.
Seafuries and Mage
# Oct 09 2001 at 10:59 AM Rating: Excellent
Yes a 49 fire pet can pretty much solo a seafury if one has BO3 on it and a staff of mastery, i havent tried with just focus item. But what a lot of mages like to do is /pet get lost right b4 the sea fury goes down and blast him till dead so they hget all the exp. Its worth it.

I was here doing my focus item quest one day.
Gornit (named HG on SF clop island) drops all giant toes required for quest but he was camped so i asked the one who was campin it to save all toes, so she did.
Later I grouped with another 51 mage and we killed gornit and SFs. SFs were red to me at the time, i was 34 and to me looked like serious badasses. Compared to Gornit and o02ther HGs SFs are real badasses according to here they have 2k more HP than HGs. Mages can start soloing hgs at 44 unless you got someone to snare em u can do it at a lower lvl.
Anyway HTF can a mage at 44 solo a SF easy if they can just solo a hg? AQnd can a 49 fire pet rea0lly solo a SF?

I really0 want to know.

i'm interested in killing these, and i was wondering if anyone thought it was possible for a druid to quad kite these, i have gone to the island and root/dot'd many times, but never tryed quading, too danerous to run oom i thought....but now i wonder....is it possible? i'm a 52 (1/4 blue to 53, had it, lost it hehe) druid....would be using 477dmg AE for 234 mana, i would figure it myself...but we seem to have several ideas of how much hp they have, any info would be of help ;) thanx

I believe it is possible for you to quad these, but you have to do some quests before you can do that. Go see the Tunare Initiate - Disciple - and Warden quests on this site, eventually you get a necklace that has unlimited charges of root. I would also suggest looking for one item (I think it goes on the chest) but it has unlimited charges of Drones of Doom on it, so by using that and the root necklace and maybe some of your nukes you can take them out with little or no mana usage.

They have around 5000 HPs, so you're going to be very tight. That's 11 casts of you AE, which is 2574 mana ... and that's all assuming no partial resists. Add in the snares and it looks pretty messy.
RE: Quading
# Apr 23 2002 at 8:34 PM Rating: Default
They're just too large. AE spells will 9 out of 10 times only hit 1 of them. So as far as quad kiting, I'd have to say no. Plus, they're usually overcamped. You take 4 at once and you're going to **** off a LOT of people.
RE: Quading
# Jul 11 2002 at 10:01 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a 51 druid with 210wis and the most i could do at once was 3. It's hard to group them together and stay a distance away from them, and the cast time on the ae cuts things close. However every time I've done it I've had about 1bubb of mana left and all three would run, so I'd right click drones of doom them to death. I haven't been able to try 4 at once yet, but it is possible.
