You say, 'Hail, Whent Goldspire'

Whent Goldspire says 'Well, hello there! My name is Whent. I guess you'd say that I run the Cartel, though that sounds far more impressive than it really is, considering that the cartel is pretty much three merchants and some hired mercenaries. Not that we have a lot of mercenaries, and there's always work for those willing to some risks.'

You say, 'What is the Freetide Cartel?'

Whent Goldspire says 'I founded the cartel only a short while ago, when it became clear that this area would soon be, well, open for commerce.' Whent smiles. 'There are three partners in this business venture, two other than myself. Shental is what I like to call the wheels on the wagon around here. The cartel was actually his idea. He brought me in for my money, and that's why I get to be in charge. I handle the day to day business, leaving Shental free to be, um, creative.' Whent smiles again. 'I don't delve too deeply into that mine, so to speak. All I know is that Shental comes to me every so often with an interesting customer, and I make sure that customer gets what he or she needs. Then there's [1]. . .'

You say, 'Petula?'

Whent Goldspire says 'Yes, lovely Petula. Such a kind sounding name for such a rough and dangerous woman. I can't exactly tell you her tale, that's not my place, but let's just say that she is the reason we can work here in such dangerous waters. Her name and reputation tend to keep the ruffians at bay. It's really quite impressive how some of the most feared men on the sea will turn tail and run when they see her on the deck of one or ships.'

You say, 'Your ships?'

Whent Goldspire says 'We have several and could probably use a few more. We run out to the island called Jardel's Hook on a regular basis, though we do not guarantee the safety of our passengers or goods, not on the sea and especially not on the Hook. If you go out there, you do so at your own risk. There's a reason that I live comfortably here on shore.' Whent smiles.'
