I'm not sure on Necros, but I could have soloed him using fear kiting at level 38 or 39 easy. I've heard it's easier for necros. Just fear kite him and I'd say you could kill him at no less then 33.

you can make 100-400 plat on the sunlight i think i sold 1 for 200pp but heard it can vary in range.
Fun

This is _always_ fun to do if you want money...
Kill SGs. you see, you have to be atleast 34 if youre gonna solo one without any HELP. but snaring and DoTing, rooting and nuking is what I suggest. its fun, easy, and rewarding with lots of plat. I took one down in about 20 seconds with that method
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 30 2002 at 9:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) MWAHAHAAH i killed one of these at lvl 10 (with help from a lvl 53 guy) and i gained like, three and a half yellow for it

yes i'm sure it can be done. the limit, though, is 11% of a level. you can't get any more than 11% of a level from a single instance of experience gaining. if he means blue bubbles, that's about right, but he said yellow specifically. hence he is just another numb nuts who needs to lie to make friends.

I've not heard before that there is a limit on how much xp can be gained from a single event, but it doesn't surprise me that there is one. How ever if such a limit exists it must be higher than 11%, as a lvl 31 SK i was getting approx 3 1/2 BLUE bubble of xp for the sarnak warbraid quest in Overtheere which works out to be approx 14%. But still the point holds that this limit whatever it is exactly prevents mega powerlevling.
Just an observation.

gained like, 3 and a half yellow bubbles, eh?

anyone who's turned in CB belts knows that there is a limit to how much experience you can gain from doing something. for the first 5 levels or so you get the same number of bubbles of experience for each CB belt you turn in. the quest should be giving a level one a lot more experience. they would go straight to level 2 with one belt if there weren't a limit

with this in mind, i doubt your story =P

This is exactly how it is done. The damage shield makes the kill, but provided you do at least 1 hit point of damage you will get full experience. When the mob goes to run, the high level simply roots it and the giant will continue to attack til the damage shield kills it.

Do I believe that a level 10 did this? Most likely not. Too much of a level difference. Unless the level 10 was a super twink with enough hit point items to live long enough to be chain healed this would never happen.

Nobody would even PL someone this way cause it takes too much mana to keep the person healed and simply pulling a train of lower level mobs onto the char would give much more exp at once for the mana used.

The only reason anyone would do this would be for bragging rights.

While I do not know what class did the asssitance, a chanter is able to beat a mob to within a point of its life and then blur it. HATE list is whiped clean and with the mob on the run a level ten (which some nice buffs) might be able to finish it off. It is possible.

Good point, this could be done as well. The problem would still be getting a hit on it. I believe (I dont have a high level chanter, so I dont really know) the person who is to get exp would still have to land a single hit point of damage to get the experience. So beating it within a point of its life would only cause the damage shield to make the kill and without the person damaging it first they would get no exp. Since I dont really know this, it would be great to hear from a high level chanter about this.

The biggest problem is that a level 10 wont be able to melee enough damage on a sand giant (because of the level difference) to kill it while its on the run. The regen on the giant is good enough that he would eventually turn and attack the level 10. Then you get back to having to chain heal the newbie. Now you have 2 high levels helping out.

I still think its still far easier to get exp by getting a train of lower level monsters (white, yellow, and slightly red) to hit your damage shield and to give each one a 1 point thump in the head for massive PLing exp.

from what i read he said that he dosnt think he gained 3.5 yewllow from it not that he didnt kill it.

and hes right there is an exp cap of like 4blue at lvl 10. you guys need to learn how to read.

this can also be done with a necro or a monk. and now they they remove the 10lvl cap resist spell thinging a lvl 10 might be able to land nukes on a SG if its resistances where decreased anuff.

learn how to read ppl!

Actually, you're not the only one who has killed one of these babies at level 10. I'll tell ya the story of my first encounter with one (whether or not ya wanna hear it).

I had just finished hunting in Blackburrow with a new friend who was playing her alt, a level 10 monk. At that time, I was a level 10 rogue. She told me Oasis was a good place to get exp, so she got one of her higher level friends to port us to WC. Upon arrival in Oasis, we camped near the N. Ro zone, so we would be able to zone if there was trouble. Well, after a failed pull attempt and an accidental zone, I zoned back into Oasis to see a Sand Giant blocking the path between me and my new friend. Because it conned red, I decided I would sneak past it and told her so. Much to my surprise, she went after it. Targetting the thing, it looked like it had no HP at all. So both of us just hit away at it for a while, missing most of the time, until it fell. We got 7pp each for split.

I'm guessing that it was a bug because Mr. SG didn't try to hit back and didn't try to run either. He just stayed at the zone line. We also didn't get any exp. Too bad. :(
It is possible to kill SGs at low lvls
# Jun 20 2002 at 4:12 PM Rating: Decent
This happened to me yesterday:

Was grouped with a druid friend for some exp from crocs near lake in oasis when we saw a halfling chasing a sand giant. Since it was already running I joined in (lvl 19 war, I was actually hitting it for around 20) and told the halfling (who I THOUGHT had done all the damage) that i would help him melee. Well, when it died, the druid and I got a bub and a half of exp while the halfling got none, he was pretty ticked and didn't know i had recieved the exp so he ran off.

It took me a while to figure out what had happened. Nearby was a dead wolf (druid) who later returned to zone, he was lvl 38. He had been the first to attack the SG and had been trying to reduce it to a point where it could be killed with a DOT, but it killed him before the DOT had run its course. The little halfing i saw had started hacking away at it, and missing a lot (which should have been my first clue) expecting to get the exp.

So it is possible for a low lvl to get major exp from these things.

what are you talking about its hard to get Exp from these guys at low levels?! I solo these guys at level 29 im a druid i take them down easy with FM I snare and Dot and run him throughout the zone they drop easy! eventully sometimes i root but usually dont, waste of mana, usually save it for DOTs but i make these things drop as easy as hell.
i gain about half a yellow bubble of Exp each one so it is easy to get exp from these guys at low levels.

at level 30 and using all the mana you have and meding up while the little pet does the work you can take one down. But if you are not as brave as I then wait til 39 and just send the little ol pet in there sit and med. Check health every so often on pet and cast your leveling spell on him to bring him to full. You will use about have your mana and your pet gets a nice snack...hehe

At level 40 I find these to be very tough
They hit hard and fast. I have only killed one
and died twice. However spectres are much easier
for me. because i can nuke them, plus ghoulbane,
plus nife (94+162+250), I think i'll leave the
Sg's for the iksars and druids.

I was wondering the drop rate on the essesence of sunlights. I need them for smithing. I also would like to know if a 32 monk could take the hos?

The drop rate on Essence of Sunlight from SG's is very good. I have gotten *at least* one in three from these Sand Giants and they sell well to people who want them. It seems like they are in high demand for cultural smithing.

While competing with everyone in Sro for the Ancient Cyclops kill I happened to kill a couple of these. Both times they dropped 35pp plus about another 5 in gold, silver, & copper. After finally getting the AC I left the zone so I don't know if this is always the case or not. just my 35000cp

Do they have faction with anyone or do they just argo on sight? I never seemed to be bothered to much by these Giants before, granted I never ran up to one either. After having played there for a while, four nights in a row I have had to run from one or two of these darn things and only once have I made the zone to NRoe. It seems once I get hit by one it is over because I haven't been able to out run the darn things. I can't wait untill I can start taking them out...Revenge is mine...

If the Sand Giant has a agro range it must be right under its feet. Guess they get mad if they gotta clean you off their shoes, hehe. I've gotten within spitting distance and nothing. Then again I think the other giants have faction and do agro but this one appears not to, better con it anyways before you get close ups for that screenshot.... or potshot

If he killed you it was probably cause someone went and ticked it off and got themselves killed without sending out a warning shout. Usually all the warning you get is a "*** shouts: SG is up" but I've never see a attack notice. I did see it running scared from a dwarf though. When he gets mad he's as bad as Equestrielle the tainted. You wont see it coming!
