Just an observation about the mob type. The mob type of the unmasked changeling is whatever it was before it changed. While the appearance of the mob will change (and the aug drop will be added to its loot) it retains the characteristics of whatever it was prior to changing.
Had one of the undead in the temple turn into this mob. Spurn undead still landed and did damage, and slay undead still went off as normal.

Either this has changed, or is has a jester illusion equation where it can have the image of anything in the area. The reason I suggets this is because I was just fighting in the hole with my festively green and red dyed wood elf ranger, and suddenly found there was two of me in the train of mobs i was killing. When some of the adds had died away I was able to see that rather than another character or some weird lag effect, the other festively green and red dyed wood elf ranger was infact an unmasked changeling!

I still am not 100% sure on how he spawns...but I did finally get this guy to pop and drop the aug. Took at least 20 hrs of camping tho....Was camping the destroyed constructs most of the time and that is where he popped, GL if you want this one....My 50 bst and 50 dru...are now 52 with 6 AAs a piece after this camp lol

Am I correct in assuming that these pop off ANY random mob in the zone? I have camped several areas in the hole for many hours this week and I cant get this drop...:/

These mobs are found in many dungeons and some other zones. It seems to be random and probably for Frostfell gifts. You fight a mob in these different zones and at about 50% they change into an unmaked changeling, and look like you. Once you kill them they will drop an augment of varying degrees, higher zones give better augments. I have seen them drop in grieg's end, sebilis, chardok, splitpaw. In chardok I looted Lesser Stone of Might (and in seb I looted Stone of Might.
