This thing hit me for up to 567. My Tepid Deeds partially slowed it. Runs at 20%. Dropped trinket and eggs.

Ranger, Lvl 55, 50+ AA's, Defiant twinked.
The trick to this spider is to take a little damage in order to get some dmg on it, for this you will need a snarer of some sort to start. Once you've got atleast 1k dmg on it start drawing it out of the cave, make sure it is DoT'd (if you got them) hit it with a few DD's and allow a bear or 2 to jump it. It is definitely a tough customer, perhaps slightly underconned. I found a hungry bear tougher than this.
If you don't have a clerk merc or some type of healer kite it if possible. Hits from 100-600+ plus has necro dot's

This guy is an undercon ... had to Levant away, 58 necro with warrior merc and monk pet. Spider took down the merc pretty swiftly from straight melee I think (didn't see any poisoning messages). Probably could have root rotted him, but was nervous about how hard he was hitting.

I did manage to take him down later after watching (invis) some bears weaken him and attacking after the spider defeated them.
Soloed as a 56/57/58 bard

These spawn in the bear caves on the first (entry) level of Blackfeather Roost. Seems to be a pretty random spawn, as I'd keep an eye on track for him while out killing pumas and snakes and things and he'd pop all on his own--probably because the spiders that may be his PHes and the bears inside the caves are constantly killing each other and cycling in new spawns on their own. Which is good and annoying at the same time, because the bears will attack and kill the hungry spider, stealing the kill from players. If you're going to pull this thing out of the caves, you have to be careful and time it right so that there are no bears in your way that will grab it from you.
Also, it's possible for two hungry spiders to be up at the same time. I killed this thing a total of four times, first three of which it dropped the harpy trinket, and fourth the war drum--which was what I was after anyway, as a 58 bard. The drum is fantastic for his level.
Spider doesn't summon (nor does anything else I've killed on the first level), and is bard soloable easily enough, though it has a lot of hp--just don't get hit, as it'll whack you for ~600. Takes a long time to chant down, so I repeatedly charmed other lower level mobs and threw them at it for a little extra DPS. Still, plan on kiting for awhile.

Hope this info helps somebody.
