You say, 'Hail, Warden Jakar'

Warden Jakar says, 'Vasha, stranger. I am Warden Jakar. I hope you find our home to your liking. I must ask you to keep your weapons in their sheaths and your spells unspoken while in Crescent Reach. My people have too [many enemies] outside the city to wish for any inside it.'

You say, 'many enemies'

Warden Jakar says, 'Well, I cannot speak of this in great details, but a wise person will understand more than I can say. Most of our effort is spent keeping the wild animals and other dangerous locals. My duty extends beyond that simple, obvious problem. It is my task to foresee danger from a greater distance. I must deal with [matters] much more difficult.'

You say, 'matters'

Warden Jakar says, 'I cannot discuss the most intimate details with a stranger, but if you wish to help I can certainly use the assistance. Perhaps you have a preference about which enemy you face? [Goblins] perhaps? Or [gnolls]? Or if you are braver and more skilled, perhaps you will kill some [kobolds] or [orcs] for us. I can only ask the most powerful strangers to battle with the northern [giants], are you one of those? If not, that is fine. Please enjoy the safety of the city while you are here.'

You say, 'kobolds'

Warden Jakar says, 'Great furry beasts that were once enslaved by the giants, they now live in caves below the glacier. They are clever creatures, and stronger than they look. They are not an immediate threat to use here in Crescent Reach, but should the giants regain their control over the northern valleys, the Kobolds would be a dangerous tool for their reclaiming of the lower valleys. It's in our best interest to weaken them whenever possible.'

You say, 'orcs'

Warden Jakar says, 'Certainly you know of orcs. These are much the same -- greedy, strong, dull and dangerous. They were once the chiefs among the giants' slaves and they remain one of the most dangerous creatures in the north. They battle with the kobolds at times, of that I am sure. But they no longer fear their ancient masters, for the giants are holed up in their city now. These orcs might overcome the kobolds one day, if they do they will surely become masters of the north. We must weaken them at every possibility.'

You say, 'giants'

Warden Jakar says, 'We know little of the giants that live in the mountains. We know that they once controlled everything in this valley, their ruins are scattered everywhere. They are huge and powerful beings that most of my people believe are superstitious fools. I don't believe that. From what I've seen of their ruins they are intelligent beings and if they are superstitious then that is only a small part of their lives. They represent a great danger to us should they choose to leave their city they could try to retake their lands, and that would include our small part of it. If you can defeat some of them in battle then perhaps they will remain above the glacier.'

This quest is given to players level 70 and 71, and possibly lower/higher (my other character is level 73 and was not given this quest).

The dialogue is exactly the same as Sweeping the Steppes: Gnolls. Except when you say What gnolls this quest pops up......

I can only ask the most powerful strangers to battle with the northern [giants], are you one of those? If not, that is fine. Please enjoy the safety of the city while you are here.'

You say, 'Gnolls.'

Warden Jakar says The Gnolls of the Steppes are cunning and dangerous. I believe that they are responsible for an [alliance] between their tribes and those of the goblins. In the last few years both the goblins and the gnolls have grown more numerous. If there is no alliance between the two, there at least has been a cessation of fighting between them. This has strengthened by both of those tribes and they might soon become a problem for Crescent Reach. You would be doing our small city a service if you could reduce the number of gnolls wondering the Steppes. If you have some friends to help however, there may be a greater task you could [help] us with.

You say, 'Help'

Warden Jakar says Amongst the gnolls the basic fighters are easy enough to deal with. It is their elite soldiers that support those fighters that make the battles difficult. We need someone to attack the gnolls and slay several of these elite soldiers. Without them the morale of the gnolls will falter and should make them easy prey for our soldiers

This is a group task with a 6 hour limit

Objective instructions Status Zone
Slay as many gnolls as possible in the encampments 0/20 The Steppes
Kill the gnolll defenders 0/4 The Steppes
Kill the elite gnoll forces 0/3 The Steppes
Return to Warden Jakar 0/1 Crescent Reach

Notes:

After killing 5 normal gnolls, 2 gnoll defenders spawn and attack.
After killing 10 normal gnolls, 2 gnoll defenders spawn and attack.
After killing 20 normal gnolls, the 3 elites spawn and attack.

Both mob types spawn around corpse of the gnoll you just killed. And both types of gnolls are mezzable and snareable.

Task text (inside task window)
Warden Jakar would like you to raid the gnoll encampments and slay as many gnolls as you can. It is likely the gnolls will send their elite tropps after you for doing so, but if you can slay them it will deal a severe blow to the gnoll forces.

You get three reward options:-

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3
