So now is very easy to identify all 3 PH's in a crowd because they will be the only leopards to see thru invis in the pack...

Derb Scholar's post contains the best info on Midnight. I just wanted to help clarify where exactly the ph are based on the mobs that are protecting them.

All 3 PH are 'a Steppes leopard'.

PH#1 near the base/tip of the Northern mountain range PH#1 is protected by the 4-5 'a Steppes leopard's. As Derb said it is very confusing so your best bet is to just kill all 5 leopards there. My theory is the ph is the one that sort of stays in the middle of the other 4 which wander off in a star pattern. The ph will start walking, take like 2 steps and stop, 2 steps and stop near the rock. The PH#1 will also land on the same locations as the other leopard's path. This is what makes it so hard to keep track of.

PH#2 near the base/tip of the Eastern mountain range will generally be quite near or in the middle of the 2 'a brown bear's. The bears are aggressive and social with the leopards and will agro with the leopard if you do not pacify them.

PH#3 near the base/tip of the Western mountain range will generally be quite near or in the middle of 'a hill giant's. The giants are aggressive but not social with the leopards so you can snag the PH#3 very easily.

The 3 ph locations form a triangle and the 'a guardian of the grove' centaurs are smack dab in the middle. The centaurs were indifferent to me and were not social with the leopards so you should be able to ignore them unless somehow you recieved negative faction on them. The 'a timber lizard's were also indifferent and where nonsocial.

One problem with the Midnight and Chef Gudez is that they do not always drop a arm mold/pattern which decreases the probability of you getting the drop further.

I found the spawn rate to be very close to 19minutes. My suggestion is you kill Chef Gudez ph who also drops the arms mold/pattern. Set your timer for 19minutes. Then go kill PH#3 which is the easyiest pull. Then PH#2 where you may have to pacify the 2 bears to pull. Then PH#1, kill the 5 leopards. Then either run or port back to the druid circle, rinse, wash, repeat. Now you are getting 4 chances every 19minutes to get your arms.

Another point about Derb's post is the ratio of drops for plate, chain, leather, silk was the same for me. So, if you are looking for silk you may be there awhile. The silk pattern dropped for me at the bear guarded PH#2 if that helps. It is quite possible that the ratio of drops is different between the different PH's.

Also, to clarify, Midnight does indeed randomly warp to different group members and change agro. The leopards will indeed occasionally shadowstep when they are low HP. You will have look to around for them and sometimes they will end up back in between the the mobs initially protecting them sometimes bringing them back to you. Midnight for the most part did not shadowstep and fought to the death, however, there was one time when I may have been losing my connection when he did shadowstep and remained rooted where I could not pull him back to camp. I had to kill him in place. He may have been shadowstepping, invising, and rooting himself or something lol. But, that only happened once in like 20 spawns.

Okay, there seems to be quite a bit of confusion about how to find Midnight. So, here is the straight skinny, as i have experienced it. Repeat. " As I have experienced it. "

Zone into the Steppes from Goru` Kar. Invis. up. Run along the trail heading North. Careful, I have experienced " see invis. " twice along this route. I think they were pulled, but not sure. Keep going North along trail until you see the step up to where several " Darkfell Gnolls " are standing along the edge, along with some buildings. ( Toegnasher will be up there with them on the left. He does not see invis. or doesn't care ). Go up that step and turn left. Toegnasher should be almost right in front of you. Go west right past him. Mountain range will be in front of you to the right. Very close. Go to the very lowest point where the mountain range ends. It does not run down into the level you just left. The location you want is 634.75, 242.55, 167.98. All positive.

Now that you are in that location, face one compass point North of due West. You will see a boulder a couple hundred yards straight in front of you with a pointy top sitting on the plain. There are five leopards who kind of wander around it. One if not any of those are Midnight's PH's. You will see other leopards in the distance on right and left. Ignore them. Also, you will see some leopards to the right who wander on and off the step you are on. Ignore them. You want the five who seem to call that pointy rock home. They will wander to the right from time to time, but will come back. Kill all five.

My experience is that if i do this ( respawn time is 20 minutes ) I will normally get Midnight to spawn anywhere from 4 to 7 rounds. And normally he spawns right in front of the rock.

I have had sessions where he did not spawn, but normally a couple of hours will do it.

He DOES NOT spawn down to the right near where the Burly Hill Giants are, at least in my experience, nor anywhere else I have seen. But had him up many times in the place I just told you about.

One thing. One of the repops spawns almost right on that location I gave so be ready for him. Or you can move a little to the North on mountain range. Your call. I just let him pop on me with pet not on hold and let the little guy have him.

Hope this helps. I won't go into how to kill him because I not always successful. Just wanted to let you all know how to find him.

Agachak on Luclin Server. 72 Mage.

As often the case, there is a bit of mystery about named spawn cycles.

I read the excellent post below about Midnight Phers and decided to move my group to the general location. Midnight wasn't on track when I zoned into the zone, which had no other players than my boxed group. I set up on the hillside with the intention of camping and coming back later in the day when I had more time to camp silk bracers for my wizard.

Since I was there I figured I'd clear the leopards just to see how long it takes. I killed every leopard in about 5 minutes. They don't have a lot of HPs. Their amiability to druids makes for easy pulling too.

So now I'm about to camp till later and what do I see in the distance but a jet-black cat shape. Nice looking pelt! Sure 'nuff, Midnight was in the house! Now there is no way he repopped from my kills since it hadn't been long enough. I very much doubt he repopped from anyone else's leopard kill since the zone was empty when I came in and it just didn't "look" like anybody had been here in a while (no leftover mob corpses, apparently full pop of leopards and other mobs, etc.)

Since I have no doubt the people posting here are right about Midnight having leopard PHers, best I can surmise is Midnight can also pop on his own....

Which reminds me that something similar happens with named spawns all over EQ. I've come into a zone withOUT a named on track, and some time later the named "appears" without me killing anything. This implies to me they can spawn on their own OR.... sometimes PHers DEpop and the named replaces them. Now I've never SEEN this happen, no matter how long I've camped certain known named PHers so it's got elements of mystery, for sure...

There's something definitely unusual about how Midnight spawns. I've cleared EVERY leopard over two days (about 3 hours a day) and have yet to see him again since the first spawn described above. I've checked track also to make sure I didn't miss a leopard.

Or he's just rather rare and I ran into a miserable run of bad luck.

I'm starting to wonder if he might have PHers which are NOT leopards. Since the hill giants have so many HPs I try to avoid dealing with them. Maybe I will clear EVERYTHING and see if my luck improves. Anyone try to spawn Midnight from centaurs? I've been ignoring them since they're non-aggro even when you fight near them...

Tried this one last night just me (Warrior) and my wife (Cleric). I could not keep aggro and we wiped. He apparently has some kind of ability to clear his hate list frequently. Next go around, We got a ranger and Mage to help us burn him down. He went downpretty fast even with one add.

Anyway be careful of his mem wipe ability... it kinda sucks..

What seems to happen is a combination of a mem wipe and a shadowstep/warp to the new victim. We noticed that Midnight would literally pop over to its next target. One tactic might be to pile everyone on the same spot and have the warrior keep vortex blades in reserve for reaggro.

Mem wipe yes....shadowstep no. Must have been lag or a bug. This mob does not shadowstep, or port to a new victim.

I camped this cat for 3 days and I have learned that he has at least 3 known place holders. I spent about 30 hours killing cats and have seen him pop in the same three places.

First, head over to the field of leopards where the Burly Hill Giant paths down. Go uptop on the side of the mountain with your back to the mountain. Behind you over the mountain is the druid rings and the gnolls. On the left side you'll see some cats, about 4 or 5 pathing close together. On the left corner the 1 cat that paths the farthest toward the gnolls is Midnight's place holder. He looks as if he is going to kill a gnoll he crouches down real low and goes the furthest toward the gnolls. When all the cats are up, I have a hard time finding it so I just kill the 4 or 5 that path in that area to be sure.

Ok, now your back is toward the mountain, look to your left, there is a smaller dropped down part of land where you will see a bunch of centaurs, 2 bears, 1 non bear/wolf (usually a spider, leopard, basalisk type, or snake), and 2 leopards. The 1 leopard is a place holder for Midnight. The one more toward the second field of leopards. He paths around the 2 bears and back again. The other leopard that paths toward the wolves and the glade area is not a PH, killed him over 100 times, never 1 Midnight from him. I kill em both out of spite though so feel free to drop them both. :)

The last PH for Midnight is a cat that paths near the wolves and glade area. The cat paths near the hill giant area and glade area in the same plane as the above mentioned leopard. He paths in a N/S direction generally staying on or near the mountain.

He drops a mold about 50% of the time, better than Chef. His rare drop is the leggings, common is the headpiece. Spawn rate is about 20-25 minutes on PH. Never timed it.

He has no HP, he does summon, but does somthing i've never seen before, He warps to you at 100% health. I snare him, pull him, and he is a nice distance away, then suddenly he is on top of me as if I called of hero-ed him! Since his agro bounces every 5 seconds, cast a group heal over time, slow him and everybody nukes, he dies in about 20 seconds.

As a side note, you may want to kill Nanartek's PH and Tarnbelly's PH as well while you are doing this. They are the odd creature that paths near the third Midnight PH, it's either a wolf, spider, snake, leopard, or basalisk type. And the odd creature that paths near the second Midnight Placeholder, usually a spider, snake, leopard, or wolf. You can tell it's the PH because it looks like it doesn't belong in that area.

If you are a druid and have access to a mage, you can clear the Ph's in about 2 minutes by snaring some Hill Giants, getting a coh to clear agro, then running back and charming the PH's and send them to die on the snared Hill Giants. :) Good luck. Took me 40 hours of camping Chef and Midnight to get what I needed. In that time I got 11 plate arms, 9 chain, 2 leather, and 2 silk. Good luck. It's a heck of a rare spawn, no more or less rare than chef. Just a pain. Any questions just ask me in game.

i may be mistaken, but the 1 leopard PH that is up on the higher steppes level, that paths right up to the mountain in the center of the zone... seems to always be a see invis spawn, so when coming in on a full spawn of mobs you could pick out which one was that PH by checking for see invis.

This isn't the case though. I was there this morning and quickly found the see invis one you talk about and killed it first then killed the other 3 in that little area. Waited for a full respawn of all 4 and none were see invis.. That same cat that pathed the same path as the see invis one was not see invis.

I assume if I just keep killing those 4 then maybe the named will pop.. I will see tonite.

Where is this "NW camp"
# Dec 19 2006 at 10:30 PM Rating: Decent
Where exactly on that ledge just NW of the word leopards, did you stay to farm him because there are 4-5 wanders at the base of it, including a giant, and only about 2 leopards within pulling range of there.

I've tried NE of the word Leopards on the ridge dividing the Gnolls and the Giants. Killed at least 40 leopards without seeing Midnight.

Where exactly has he been spotted? What's the Loc of the area you pull and camp in?

Some info:
Nearby mobs socially aggro
Hits pretty fast; Max hit around 1.2k; usually hits around 600
Snarable, rootable
Summons at 97% and it is nearly instant (less than 1 second) between summons
I would guess around 70k hp

Dropped a chain arm mold for Tenish's armor quest.
There was 2 of him spawned when I ran into him yesterday.
Both had the Evergleam Coif, but only one had an arm pattern.
