With the modern faction window open, I cast different racial illusions which changes my faction with Speaker Grayleaf, and watched my cons change in my faction window, but no faction lined up with all the different cons. I checked every expansion between Everquest original and Prophecy of Ro. So Speaker Grayleaf's faction is not a listed or known faction.
But you can say 'rest' to Speaker Grayleaf to get his two tasks, so it's not that important.

might be on clerics of tunare faction. quick way to check is con elria the pure in felwithe. she's usually at the lake, next to fisher merchants.

How do you find out what faction this tree is on?
My g/f and I had to kill a few high elves to get high elf parts for the brewing trophy, and now we are dubious to Grayleaf ... before that we were indifferent ... and we are indifferent in Plane of Growth and amiable in Kelethin and Felwithe so there must be some other faction involved ... any ideas?

Dwarf warrior buddy was dubious till chanter cast illusion wood elf on him, then he could get task.
After second [text] prompt he simply says "I have nothing for one of your abilities."
I am a 70 ranger and on very good terms with the Plane of Growth, though I am Indifferent to this MoB. Do you have to build up faction first, or something?

New bug! Speaker Grayleaf won't give you either quest, but just insults you.
Workaround. Say REST. It bypasses the faction checks at the beginning.

Tree Spirits quest - go kill Grayleaf the Fallen and his guards, the Treant of the Ancient Groves guys, in Takish. Loot a seed from each and return them to Speaker.
Caster reward:
mask of shimmering glass
Melee reward
glass trinket of the sands
Nothing terribly impressive, but each of them drops 3 seeds for the quest, so one killing gets you 3 sets for turn-in.

Grayleaf has 4 tree guards and they each drop 3 seeds, so there's enough quest seeds for 3 people.
They're all rootable, but summon after damage, treants mostly slowable, Grayleaf only slightly slowable.

If you are not KOS in Plane of Growth, you can score yourself one of these just for accepting the mission "Tree Heaven" from him and going to PoG.

My warrior is KoS in PoG, but did the quest for belt anyway. He grouped with druid and mage, who zoned in and ran up tree to where turn in mob is. Warrior zoned in invis, mage CotH him over, then he dropped invis to do turn in. He got the belt and immediately got aggro as well from all of Tunare's buddies up there. The plan was for the druid to evac everyone out at that point, but she was hit with AE silence and couldn't cast. Ran everyone off tree to north zone line, camped out to loose aggro, then logged in and waited for silence to drop so we could port out.
