Magician

Stone skeletons can be found inside a tower on the southern edge of the zone. As they are magicians, they typically come along with a pet.

Don't bother...they cast a root spell and its horrible.
My and my gf both 35 druids pulled them and she got wiped while i ran with levi. At least buff up to have sow and levi before you try them.
And it is better if you have a tank for the ride.

i wasted these two today, first one dropped the heart, second the staff. i wanted the staff so im done that was easy at 41, but they do hit kinda hard, make sure you get a snare on both of them

Could my 30 Pallie (with ghoulbane) and regen iksar bp(7hp per tick) solo these guys? should i fear one and beat the other down then get the feared one after to break camp? or just root em both and back up and take out pets and then cast the evocation undead line.
I figure i can do these maybe til 34 and then attempt the ruins in DL near FM zone as undead are cake for pallie and clerics.

Soloing at 29

Ok all you petless wizards out there, if you want to get your tash-on-a-stick at lvl 29, here's what ya gotta do. First, make sure you have a nice high lvl sow and all your self buffs, this includes levitate, leatherskin, elemental shielding, major shielding, and of course your familiar. Then bind yourself near the tower where the skellies pop and med to full. Then get as far away as you can and root one of the casters. Next, run like hell to the Rathe Mts zone, make sure you stay in the skellies agro but out of DD range. Before you zone, wait for him to catch up and cast a root on him (enstill might work better for this purpose but i didn't try). Now zone and gait. From my experience you have about 5min to take out the lone skellie left at the tower before his friend that you led to the zone catches up. Most of the time he won't even have his pet with him as it got lost following you. One thing to mention, I hold that it is NOT a good idea to root him. If you do he will go into nuke mode and drop 150+ DD's on you. I just let fly with the Inferno Shocks and he came right at me, didn't even bother to cast spells, and these guys are super week melee so i think its best to just stand there and take the hits. If anyone wants to know, I'm a semi-twinked lvl 29 wizard, but i didn't use more than 60m so untwinked should be ok. Best of hunting to you.

Tried unsuccessfully to solo these when I was around level 34. Wound up gating. Went back and called for some help. A 34 Enchantress came down to help me and we were able to kill them without too much difficulty. We cleared the tower twice, but no heart of stone dropped. She then had to log. ;(

I'm 39 now and I believe I should be able to solo these. I'll give it another try soon and post an update.

Edit: Was able to solo them at 39 with some difficulty. Used water pet, but thinking back, I probably should have used air pet since they are casters. Got my heart of stone on 1st try. Good luck!

Solo'd Heart of Stone at 31
# Feb 28 2002 at 2:49 AM Rating: Default
You guys are gonna hate me, but I solo'd about 3 of these guys at 31 and got the Heart on the last try. How did I do this?

First, I bound myself in Arena, and then I swam over to the tower area. once there, I summoned a focused water pet and fully buffed him with the armor and 2 summond swords. After medding to full, I cast Burnout II and Expedience on him, and med to full again.

Then I targeted the skele on the left and pulled back as far as I could and still cast Bolt of Flame on him. After casting, told pet to attack, which causes all 4 to agro on your pet. I then ran back a bit further while recovering from casting Bolt of Flame and cast it again once recovered. This will pull the skele on you.

Turn auto-attack on, if it isn't already, and just keep casting Shock of Spikes on him until he's dead. Quickly loot his body, and gate.

Just repeat this until you get the Heart. It took me 4 tries and I got it on the 4th try.

Hope this helps....

Let me paint the picture for you. So its like 4 am, I'm really tired and my judgments a little off. I've got everything else for my tash-on-a-stick quest except the damn bone rod. My roommate says theres no way i can complete the thing as a lvl 29 wizard without help, i'm out to prove him wrong. I've got a really nice sow, levitate, elemental shield, major sheilding, skin like steel, and leatherskin on with a familiar along for the ride, so i'm feeling pretty cocky. Do a quick recon with my new and improved eye of zomm (god that spells good since the patch) and con them, blue, blue, blue and blue. Now i know i can't take out two blue casters with their pets, so i decide to try to even the odds, so i let fly the bonds of force and start running. From there everything seemed to go south. Roots didn't hold on the pet and they both nuke for like 140. I managed to get two inferno shocks off on one skellie before they dropped me to 1 red and i turned and fled, running for the zone. I would have made it too if i had like 30 more hps. All well, I'm still convinced this method will work and plan to spend at least 3 more deaths trying to take these bastards down. Maybe i'll run 'em to the arena zone next time.

Good luck fella, I tried it with my 26 wiz and a 49 druid to help. End result was one dead wizzy and a druid that was running till I could log my warrior. 51 war will beat em like he owns em tho. Staff is dam nice.
How is everyone pulling?
# Jun 01 2001 at 10:26 AM Rating: Default
Just one question why are you using blaze to pull with? I know cinder bolt is LOS but the damage is higher so more effective for that first shot. Plus i have have heard no one use dissmessed summon on the pets yet. Great spell IMO no worries with LOS or what type pet they are (I.E. cinder on a fire not a good idea). Are these skeles hidden away where you can get no LOS or whats the deal?
easy for a level 36 mage
# May 18 2001 at 9:37 AM Rating: Decent
I went to kill these for the Heart of Stone and I am a level 36 mage.

I had a focused air pet with dmg shield on and dmg shield on mem too. I pulled with Blaze.

Only one skel and it's pet came. My pet killed the skels pet easy and I took care of the skel. I just stood and whacked at it while nuking. I lost maybe 1.5 bubbles of health.

Unfortunaly I hadn't gotten the darn Heart of Stone after killing about 10 of them and I had to log. Going back again tomorrow.

# May 09 2001 at 6:16 AM Rating: Default
Sorry, not a chance. I tried to take these on with my 28th bard and a 29th Magician. My Lull song was resisted so we ended pulling both skellies with both their pets. We managed to kill both skellies ans one pet but the last pet finished us off. They both had rooting earth pets earth pets too.
What was more annoyhing was that by the time I ran back from Arena some bugger had looted the corpses.

We were in Lake Rathe with a full group levels 17-21, and we were able to kill these fellows without loss of life or extreme difficulty. Definately be sure to Harmony them so only one comes at a time, and have a couple of healers (we had a level 20 Druid and a level 21 Cleric). Have the Healers chain cast Healing on whoever is taking the brunt of the assault, and the rest of the group beats the stuffing out of the stone skeleton. Once he's dead the pet can be quickly dispatched. For the record our group consisted of Ranger, Druid, Cleric, Monk, Enchanter, and Wizard.

Stone Skeleton Foul-up!
# Sep 05 2000 at 1:43 PM Rating: Decent
Well I made my 1st attempt on these guys this past weekend and it went badly.

I had seen the tower with the stone skeleton previously, when I was level 18 or so, hunting the single spawn aviak in Lake Rathetear. Back then the skel was very red, but now at level 34, he was blue. I summoned a focused earth pet, gave him his summoned swords and cast burnout 2 and flameshield on him. Medded to full, targeted the skel, sicced pet on him and let loose with a blaze. My pet dashed inside the skel's tower and was intercepted by his pet. So now pets are fighting and skel started pounding on my pet. Fine with me! I blasted again.... Eeyow! There's TWO skels in there! Well now one of the skels is casting on me, the other is in my face smacking me and interrupting me and all I can do is hope I can get a spell off or my pet finishes his work and comes to my aid. I never got that spell off, and the skels killed me before my pet could help. I did manage to get one of 'em down to about a bubble of health before I croaked. So.. I lost a good half bub of experience for that mistake but I re-learned something that I had so foolishly forgotten: Look before you leap. A careful recon would have prevented me from dying as I wouldn't have attempted the skel(S) on my own. I'm definitely going back with a warrior friend of mine and get some payback.

Stone Skellies were easy
# Aug 17 2000 at 7:50 PM Rating: Default
Okay all of you who posted here had me scared out of my mind to do this part of the quest. Well Myself a lvl 35 mage and my friend a 34 druid decided we would give it a try since we were in the zone anyway. The druid buffed us both and my focused fire pet. Then he harmonyed the skellies and pulled the first one...2 blasts and it was dead, neither of us lost any life. Had to pull second since no heart on the first, went a little bit harder and I lost a whole half bubble of health but since i had regen it came right back ) Killed the second in one blast got the heart and left. I only used half my mana for the two of them and that was only because of fizzles. So these really weren't all that bad if you pull them one at a time and make sure you have magic and fire resist.

At the time i came to play with these bad boys I was just a lev 30 druid looking to get some xp. Hooked up with a troll warrior lev 29. Well I harmonied 1. And he arrow pulled the other. After it rooted us both. he then proceeded to cast painful firebolt spells at us. The troll died after the 4th cast while i was trying to greater heal him. Then the skeleton turned on me and dropped me in 2 castings.

Im gonna go back and get revenge cause i always do. but i think I'm gonna bring a few friends. Maybe some clerics and some wizards. but revenge is a sweet thing. yes.. It will be mine. hehehe.

Stone Skeletons!!
# Mar 23 2000 at 9:56 AM Rating: Decent
These are some tough customers!! I'm a 34 mage and I went to fight these Stone Skeletons with a 33 mage. Both conned high green to me. I had a focused earth pet summoned and equipped him with 2 Runed Swords (for Ward Summoned Proc), and my partner had an air pet with 2 Runed Swords. Of course, we flame shielded the pets before sending them in and we had all our magician buffs up. The battle ended badly, with my 33 mage partner dying after our pets got killed. I barely survived, having to stand toe to toe with the skeletons earth pet (rooted me). Fortunately, I managed to get 2 Dismiss Summons off (which was enough to finish it) before it pummeled me into the ground.

For those mages who wish to get their Heart of Stone, bring a tank and a cleric!
Stone Skellies
# Mar 13 2000 at 2:55 PM Rating: Decent
You can kill these with a full group 22+, but make sure you can use Harmony to pull one at a time (with pet). If you pull both at this level you are TOAST.

Stone Skilletons cast some halfway decent AoE spells, but more annoyingly also can cancel magic.

When you pull these, make sure you pull them out of aggro range of the tower where they spawn (near the single aviak spawn). Also be sure to watch for Goblin Netmasters, as they sometimes wander up near the tower where you may be fighting the Stone Skeletons.

And yes, they are NOT undead. I tried. :)

Despite the name, won't be effected by anti undead spells. Pretty rough for their level, but as magicians, might not be so bad if you have a lot of stunners.
