The aviak guards have a respawn of about 6 minutes after their death. They're not the fastest experience in the world, but they are very safe. At level 21 it took me 32 minutes to get one gold unit of experience so it is kind of slow compared to places like Paludal. Coin loot ranged anywhere from 1 copper to (my highest here) 1 platinum, 8 gold. But these birds also have a chance to drop bronze weapons which (excluding the knuckles), sell for 1-3 platinum each. It's not a bad spot all in all.
But if you have access to paludal and it isn't overcamped (and on most servers, I seriously doubt it will be), I would suggest that zone above this one for faster experience.

Aviak Guards(LRathe) in front of the arena entrance is decent way of making xp and the additional coin.
There are two guards spawning in the two towers just outside the arena entrance and pulling one of these from entrance near mrs. Misty Tekchita will not make the second jump in.
Loot ranges from 0 to appr. 1pp 8gp, with the occasional rune or words thrown in to boot.
Additonally they drop rusty weapons (all kinds) and occasionally bronze weapons(axe, longsword, mace, knuckles, 2hd swords). I've soloed there as a SK from levels 20 to 25, and it was nice and easy.
One more thing that makes it a good hunting spot IMO is that it's fairly underpopulated, since ppl are busy hunting PC or other new exp. areas at this level...

You can get a bind in the arena FREE. There is a soulbinder just inside. Very nice.

Go to the aviaks guards near arena zone pull them and kill them 1 bub of blue per kill and since zone is right there you cant die,and since they cant cast its easy fair hand to hand combat.

The guards are the largest thing at my level (16) that I have killed. They are monsterous and have ok loot, usually about 2.5 gold. This is great exp. and when you pull one of the 2 guards the other doesn't aggroe...yet. I have killed about 8 aviaks so far so we will see. Much safer than the gnolls in this zone.

I am a druid of the 16th year, and I was camping these guards tonight. I found I was able to solo reds, getting over a bubble of exp per kill! Just swim over to the arena entrance, and sit in the tunnel. If you get in trouble, there's a zone line right there! Try it out!

im a 18 lvl barbarian shaman and hunt in the lake of rath, i was killing aviak guard`s with my fello barbarian when the smaller version`s also aggroed, so we kill`ed them, i was wondering if the small guy`s lower faction, how do i get my factoin back up so i can visit the pee brain`s in there natural element?

I've been hunting these birds, and sometime take the little ones too, none change your faction, though you can be KOS to them, possibly from killing other Aviaks? Not sure there, would like to know though. The little ones can agro when your fighting a guard, but usually they don't, just depends if they see you fighting.

Me, a 21 druid and my 17 Pally friend just started hunting the ladder. Both of us are relatively untwinked.
I harmony, then snare one, give it a swarm on its way down, then I run to pally and give him a shield of barbs. Pally jumps in, I med until snare breaks then recast. At that point the Aviak is quite dead. Aviaks hit a lot for relatively small damage, so the damage shield tears them a new bodily *******.
Pally scored a half a level in about two hours, I got a bubble and a half. Very little downtime... I could usually pull three before we needed to med up again. Good cash loot, but crappy rusty weapons. I guess we should have come here a little earlier but its still decent xp for me excellent xp for him.

At 22 I get half a blue bubble out of them. I hunt from tunnel to Arena. I open with snare, swarm then a few Careless Lightnings and finish off with mace.

While attacking, yes. Watch out when camping, because mobs spawn in pairs, and you usually can't get close enough to con both separately.
Warning to necro soloers: I'm level 18 and equipping feign is a neccessity because there are two of them.

there are three or four places that aviaks spawn (according to eqatlas) i've never been to the zone and would like to know where they spawn, thanks =)

Im a human monk lvl 27 from torvo and ive been lvling in lake since lvl 20 , this place is THE only place for monk dont go anywhere else ... there is a fire place named 3 spawn ... at lvl 23 you can solo them easyly with fd pull and breaking camp . i Gained from lvl 22 to 25 this way in about 5hour so its damn good !

If your a level 16 Necromancer this is the bird to hunt! I went from 16th to 20th level in just 20 hours! Good way to kill the bird is Darkness, leach, heat blood, heart flutter... by now the bird REALLY wants to kill you so your going to have to melee it out alongside your pet till it drops.. Lifedraw it when you can during the fight. Meditate quick cause next spawn is in 6 mins!

Blue - White to me. I soloed, 10 of them this morning, I had to zone to arena 1 time & got heals while fighting 2 others or I would have died. They hit for 25 - 36 multiple times/fight. Loot wasn't bad, average was about 5gp+ .

The Aviaks and aviak gaurds do not give any faction anymore at all. Good or bad. They are all amibly to me even after 4 lvls of killing them none stop.

ive been there since 16 with my enchanter (now 19) ausome exp...i find the arena spawn is best so u can zone if it gets sticky and give binds to people that need them (great donations got 15pp once). And the little birds...they dont give faction anymore i charmed a big guard and sent him after all the small ones :) and ive killed them when they get pulled with the guard so they mustve changed the faction hits

The big guards don't give faction hits but the little ones that con green (hehe) called 'an aviak' near Arena do. However they all share the same faction so killing little ones makes you KoS to guards

These of course are great hunting (safest in the game so far, I often Bind myself in Qeynos or Highpass and stay bound there while I fight here). I've been warned though that killing these guys in Lake Rathetear decreases my faction with the Aviaks at the tower in SK. I haven't seen it though, they started Dubious and they remain so even after 2 levels of killing guards. Does anyone know if ANY aviaks have faction?
