Just killed this dude in my druid's quest for level 14 and SOW. Smiley: yippee Some poor fool trained him to the entrance of Surfall running for his life. Anyway, he was back to 100 percent health and conned white to me. I figure, oh well, why not? He was alone at the time. Dang, my druid fought toe to paw with him. He resisted some of my Fire spells, but fortunately the Snare I cast held til almost the end. I killed him with 29 health and no mana. Smiley: boozing Not being the safest place to med, I zoned out for a sec to recharge mana, and came back to find someone else looting him. Smiley: bah OH Well... the weird part was, as a white, he only gave me 2 bubbles of XP.

Just my two coppers Smiley: twocents
worth it?

I've been in BB from level 10 -14 and grouped to camp the Commander room ( near spike pt) several times. Heres what I've personally looted:

Studded collar
Spiked Collar
Onyx earing
Silver stud earing
Copper ring
Rusty weapons
Rusty Spiked shoulder pads
a few non rare gems and stones
rawhide sleeves
some cloth armor, capes etc
gnoll pelts, skins and ptches of fur.
Fangs

Thats about it. I have never seen any girdle or mask for that matter.

Gnoll Commanders Lvls
# Mar 06 2002 at 12:41 PM Rating: Default
I spent about 15 hours playin in bb with my 14 pally, and the commanders every singal time conned blue to me. so they are at least 13, I can't remember but I think one conned light blue if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, so I was in a group with a lvl 15 wiz, a lvl 15 druid, a lvl 14 monk, and me, a lvl 14 pal. We camped the Elite room and the Comm room and we didn't die once. One time the came from no where and I ended up useing my Lay on Hands but other wise you can take that entire area with a group of probably 3 all 15's. Have fun, Its even more fun when you stop the trains for the lower lvls. Then they thank you. hehe its great. :)

A sure way to die quickly in BB, as if the trains and whatever other assorted nonsense goes on in there won't kill you fast enough, is to THINK that just because a commander is level 15 and you are, too, that you can solo them.

Now, maybe if you're some sort of super tweaked character, I suppose that could be possible OR if you were to catch the commander ALONE on the surface it could happen, too.

But, waltzing into the Clover Room and smacking the commander while the elite's and either a shaman or the Splitpaw is standing around is a nice way to qet yourself killed, quickly.

Just for the fun of it, I camoed myself and went through BB seeing if I could find anything to solo being a 15 level druid. I conned every commander I saw. Some conned blue, some white, some yellow, and one red. I would put their level from 13 to 18 at the most.

BlackBurrow lvl15
# Apr 23 2001 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
THe lv 15 seems right to me my lvl 15 ranger can stand toe to toe with one of these with no buffs & beat him. Not that I would want to but I have been in that unwanted circumstance b4. I think 15 is right. Although all it took to kill me off was an added scrawny gnoll that some poor newbie trianed on me..Kinda embarrising when you are lvl 15 to see "You Have Been Slain by a Scrawny gnoll." on the screen....lol
Commanders

i still hunt then as a Lvl 21 Human Ranger. 1 in 5 or so still cons blue to me,good for exp still and some useable loot.the AI can help too ,if you see the small room with the commander and elite ,click attack and target commander, run in the room ,he will always attack but often the elites AI makes him just shuffle.kill the commander and then take the elite.but if you see a shamy in the side room take him out first(always)as he buffs the commander/elite you are attacking ,i make about 15p an hour here :)
Gnoll commanders dropping spike girdles
# Aug 22 2000 at 12:26 PM Rating: Default
Gnoll commanders are supposed to drop Spiked Girdles now (WIS 3 AGI 3 COLD -3) according to the Equipment database...I have killed a lot of Commanders but not seen that loot...Can anyone confirm that this loot exists? A lot of Onyx Earrings (AGI 2) and raw-hides but no spiked girdle so far...

Its the elites that drop the spike girdles. I was there with my mage around lv20 just killing time and got 2 of those.

My Warrior this weekend wiped out many commanders and all taht was drop was the spiked SP and Earrings. If there is a Spike girdle, it's not active or it's a super rare drop. (6 hours in green room and Commander room)

oh....

I think this is fake now, if you look at the equipment database on allkhazams the graphic has one line that is:

effect:

yet there is none.

maybe it was a paste together job.

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/equipment/graphics13/spiked_girdle.JPG

a bit odd when I see nothing else saying Effect: unless it has one.

I'm pretty sure the effect: <blank> means the item in question is a light source.

There are spiked shoulderpads that have those stats, but sadly they ceom from splitpaw not here =(. also, the newer items have effect: and blank, like the torn pages of elemental mastery i know as a fact do.

I think they have been slowy working in a paw invasion on blackburrow or somesuch thing. BB and Paw allince for a run at Qeynos or Surfall or Halas? Something is diffently going on here for a while. Mabye even a war between BB and Paw? SP Refugee and SP Commander have been added to BB along with a few named BB gnolls.

Yeah, i went and camped them for a couple hours. Only the old onyx rings. I asked the zone too and people there said it must be a joke since they were camping also and none.

I've known a few folks who have camped Comms for about a total of 10 hours and not seen one drop. Could have been a GM seed on one server. Could be a hoax that the goodly folks at AllaK's sometimes are duped by.
Mini Commander Room
# Aug 11 2000 at 5:14 AM Rating: Decent
Yes a good place, even for a Higuer Level Soloer like me ( Bard 16 ) that just cannot handle a Commander and A Elite at the same time. But as my piece of advice, before taking on commander if you hunt alone take the Guardsman near the bridge in your back and the one behind the door or you can have a nasty gangbang surprise.
RE: Mini Commander Room
# Mar 23 2001 at 4:02 PM Rating: Decent
True i had a big suprise when i went to attack the gnoll commander and had 2 others riding me.
RE: Mini Commander Room
# Dec 03 2000 at 1:53 AM Rating: Default
At 16 with my warrior I could take an elite and a commander at the same time with only 2 bulbs of health loss. Gnoll Guardsmen don't even attack me anymore unless I sit down. Oh well good hunting.
Mini Commander Room
# Aug 07 2000 at 10:46 PM Rating: Decent
A good place to hunt when the elite ledge is full is the mini commander room, a room beneath and just a bit past the elite ledge. There spawns 3 gnolls and either a shaman, elite guard or commander. A two Lv.13-14s can hold up this room very easily since the regular gnolls won't attack you unless you sit next to them.
Levels of commanders
# Jul 25 2000 at 1:02 AM Rating: Decent
I personally think the levels are 14-17.
Just because they sometimes con blue to my 19 Paladin.
And a 14th level friend with me never saw them white, always yellow or red.
RE: Levels of commanders

Just today I went to BlackBurrow with my lvl 20 shaman, and a commander conned blue to me... soo.. I think the lvl is probably higher then just 15.

Blue to my level 15 monk, so definitely 14 at least on the low end.

i hunted them with my druid for a few lvls and they are lvl 15 - 16 i think. if the room called elite room is full which is with 4 elites and 1 shaman and 1 commander 1 group of lvl 14-15 can be screwed quickly. each of us took one but the commander went after our wizard and killed him lowering our damage output. then the one i was killing ran after my root wore off and brought his buddies back which were 2 guardsmen. after that our cleric went and me(druid) and a paladin a ranger and a another druid were quickly getting gang raped. i backed off and healed them quick and sowed them incase it got worse. i then medded quick and we killed the 4 elited remaining using LoH by the paladin on himself and we lost our other druid and then the ranger. i was less then a bubb of health and me and the paladin were the only ones left. he had half health. he jumoed in and got him off me so i quickly medded and healed myself upto 1 and half bubbs of health. then healed him and rooted the last guardsmen. he finally died and we both sat to med and heal. so know what you are doing when you attack these. there is 1 secret to taking to whole room with only 4 character under lvl 17 though. get 2 enchanters, a druid, and a paladin. enchanters give breeze to the druid and pally and then have druid harmony them and everyone pick 1. then have the enchanters mes, tashun, and then charm one elite and the other charm the commander. have the paladin kill one elite, the druid kill the shaman, and the enchanter use the elite and commander against the other 2 elites. also a helpful tip for enchanters have a charisma over 150 when charming. but after the 2 new charmed pets are fighting the 2 elites debuff all of them so if the charm breaks youll have it easier and the other party members will be fighting a weakened mob. thats my 2cp of input. with 2 enchanters lvl 16 each, a lvl 15 paladin, and a lvl 14 or 15 druid using this tactic you'll almost never fail.
the truth

the commands are level 13-15 (this has been proven) they drop rusty spiked shoulderpads, onyx earrings, bronze amulets, gnoll teeth, and the prized "blackburrow gnoll skin" worth 15 plat sometimes. anyway these guys are incredible loot, and great xp, especially in the little commie room cause a group of four people level 13-15 can take it easily, usually two elite guards, maybe a couple guardsmen, maybe a shaman, and the commie, and btw i dont think he sees invis unless the shaman casts it on him...not tested but it just sounds right to me seeing as how the shamans buff the other gnolls ya know. btw ive hunted in blackburrow since two months ago (almost to the day) with several of my characters, mostly my warrior. anyway if you dont believe me go check cause it HAS been proven that they are level 13-15 (possible 12-15, but unlikely) EVERY time. and NOT level 20 (LOL!!!). ok ill shut up now.

stop reading.

STOP IT DAMNIT.
