For anyone still doing this (Progression servers), the information below has apparently changed. It no longer has a placeholder, and instead of the circular room it now spawns in the northwest area (not the furthest northwest room, but the one directly below it). The rats are still out there and still see invis, though seemingly they do not see IVU.

Good luck, this one is proving to be a pain already. Note also this link to what is apparently the new version of the signet mob. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=29436

It looks like all version of the instances should drop the signet now. I'll add to each Insidious Dragorn.

Quote:
Access to Asylum of Anguish - A Cunning Dragorn in the Sewers of Dranik and the Insidious Dragorn in the Dranik Catacombs no longer have placeholders and are now guaranteed to spawn in all three versions of these instances. They now carry six signets, but will not respawn.

Method for Getting the Catacombs Signet
# Apr 04 2008 at 12:57 PM Rating: Decent

I got my last signet for anguish over the weekend. The last one to get was from catacombs. I died a couple times trying to find a way to the sig mob past the see invis rats and in an area where I would not get adds.

Here is what I learned and what I did to be successful.

The see invis rats are undead.

Group had two clerics, one for healing and one for casting Sun Cloak (10 min no-drop invis vs undead). Also, I had my wizard there for Eye of Tallon and Phase Walk (10 min no-drop invis).

When requesting the expedition from Grand Historian Rygua, make sure he responds with text that includes Master of the Watch and Elite Pixxt K`illiga.
I used my warrior to get the expedition from Grand Historian Rygua. The rest of my group was at the instance entrance to Catacombs.

I used my wizard to scout for the Insidious Dragorn. Once I had the correct instance, I would zone in with the wizard, cast the Eye of Tallon from the entrance, and scout the ph/sig. If the ph was up, I would exit and get a new expedition.
If the ph was up and I needed a new expedition, I would drop my group from the expedition with a social hotkey, exmaple:
/pause 3, /dzremoveplayer player1
/pause 3, /dzremoveplayer player2
/pause 3, /dzremoveplayer player3
/pause 3, /dzremoveplayer player4
/dzquit

If there is a full group, then the second social can just be /dzquit with removing the rest of the group on the first social.

Once the Insidious Dragorn was found up, then everyone in group would enter the instance. My wizard cast Phase Walk on everyone except for the cleric casting Sun Cloak. After everyone had reg invis, I used my cleric to cast Sun Cloak on everyone. Then everyone, except for my cleric ran to the sig without problems.
There is a little area between two columns on the wall that form a "cubby". the group (-minus the clr left behind)got into this cubby and fought from there. We had zero adds. We then evac'd after killing and looting.
One variation on this was to use a fellowship port for the cleric left behind to do the invis vs undead.

So, this can be done with one cleric, but you need to be in a fellowship and have three run to the sig to drop the campfire. It goes without saying that the tank needs to be able to take a slight beating until the cleric can get there.

With more experience, there are a couple more notes:

--Reg invis will knock off invis vs undead, but not vice-versa. Therefore, cast the reg. invis, then invis vs undead.
--Due to note 1, the cleric gets left behind at the start. Make sure you are in a fellowship so the cleric can port. Put the campfire in the cubby.
--Use a shrink clicky, potion, or cast to fit everyone into the cubby.
--Melee must fight at max melee range to limit push. I have been in a couple fights where the push brought mobs when looting the corpse.
--Trying to push him into the cubby caused others to agro. The pusher, was just too close to the other mobs.
--Most times, the group I was in would start casting evac/succor when the loot started cause it takes 4-10 sec.
--Pets create too much push in this confined space, therefore I asked that all pets be sent away for this fight.

In all, this is a safe and easy sig if you know these going in. Of course all sigs are easy if you do them right, but the strategy available with this sig makes this one of the easiest to get. It is definitely the least amount of fighting per sig.

I hope this helps some folks working on this sig camp.
Knockback
# May 12 2007 at 12:30 PM Rating: Decent
To get him pushed back to the wall, a Ranger with Elddar's Grasp faces the corner next to the post, targets the named, and casts. The KB puts him right at the wall line.

We got no adds (which I think is normal) and the mob was as far back as you would ever need using this method.
Solo

Defiantly soloable by a Necromancer.

I Spectral Guarded, Aegis of Calliav'd and Vexed pet beforehand.

Just invis to him and pet push him against the wall.

Call epic pet and swarm pets if you got them.

Cast your dots, feign, cast more and feign.

Even if you get summoned his DPS is low, his AoE (snaps fingers) seems to inturrupt his DPS substancially.

Used pet lay hands while finishing dots.

Then healed pet 2 times and tapped the final 25%.

Just watch for the TWO wanderers that path from North end of room to South end (ukun and dragorn guard for me).

Once they both path north, engage and finish the fight fast.

300 tracking
# Jan 24 2007 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent
With 300 tracking you CAN track the mob from zone in, I've done it numerous times...

So work it up :)

im a 70 ranger and have 200 tracking, with 200 you CANNOT track PH or named from entrance, i run to about the 2nd or 3rd room and then can track, also the safe spot to kill is behind and to the left(if u were facing way he does) there is a little cubby, stay in there and we just only killed named/PH, i have grp aa invis HELPS SO MUCH makes sure u dont get agro, GL on what i think is the hardest sig
SIG MOB TASK
# Dec 21 2006 at 1:22 AM Rating: Decent
After you hail and say catacombs to the historian, ensure the message you get back says Elite Pixxt in it for the sig mob instance. If you get Marshall or Overlord, it is the wrong one for sig mob.

If you have a tracker over 200 you should be able to track from zone in...otherwise like me i have only 200, i have to go down the first 2 sets of stairs right to ent of long hallway to check tracker.

Pet Pull
# Aug 27 2006 at 11:27 PM Rating: Decent
Two words: PET PULL. Just make sure the one rat on the way to mob that can possibly see invis, doesn't (it's in the little square roundabout on the way there), and if it does, pet pull it and kill it.

A few helpful hints: Use level 48 necro pet spell Invoke Death, make sure you have Bullwark of Calliav (level 69 pet rune), make sure pet is sow'd, wunshi'd, and conviction'd, also having the "Pet Hold" command is very useful. Also, not a must but a good idea to have in case, any type of insta-invis.

Timing is critical on this, if you don't pull your pet away as soon as he gets agro, you can say bye-bye pet fast. But after a few tries, I was able to sucessfully pet-pull the PH and the Insidious Dragorn to zone in, without any agro, and every time was able to keep pet alive for the next pull.

In the course of 3ish hours we saw two Insidious Dragorns spawn, and just kept ourselves busy clearing the trash near the zone in, between the 19 minute spawns.

Due to the new rules on pet pulling this is no longer an effective method.

If you attempt pet pulling as of TSS release you will get adds because of the new "Call for help routine fixes." Before these changes the mob would check the pet level to determine if they should assist or not. If the pet conned green to the mob then it would not initiate the "Call for help routine" and so nothing else would add. The new fix makes the mob check the pet owner level to determine whether to "call for help." So /mourn pet pulling lol.

Oh just on a side note, the first couple times I tried this, the Insidious Dragorn came with a lot of adds, I think, (not positive) that maybe the Dragorn got to close to me and I picked up agro off the other mobs. It wasn't a big deal I just fd'd and tried again.
For those that need to know.

If you get the map that is current from Mapfiend it shows the "Fight" spot on the map.

What you have to do is put your tank to the west of the Dragorn/noc with all invised.

The tank then drops invis and begins using whatever means necessary to pound the dragorn back. Your slower slows and cleric heals, but no one else engage.

Have the tank push the mob into the cubby spot. Once fully in the cub spot burn it down without anyone leaving the cubby.

You will get 0 adds and the killing goes fast.

I just trioed this with myself (70 Ranger w/ 396 aa's PoP defensives and 1 level of OOW defensives), my boxed cleric (level 61 w/ 106 aa's), and a 70 Shammy.

Also the respawn is 20 minutes not 19.

Fully buffed with Tenacity etc. There would be no way. You simply could not tap fast enough. Matter of fact I would say this guy is not tap tankable by any necro right now /shrug. For any that say you can post a vid. At 75 with 10k hpts and a decent bit of defensive completed he ate me for lunch.

i just soloed him (75 necro) had tenacity though. I am at 8.8k with tenacity, but they key thing i used to beat him was my pets, my infusion of the faithful, and 2 dots that hit for over 1k.

tap tanked him last night at 74 with 9k hps and pots... just snared/dropped dots like mad fd stand tap tap fd tap dot fd tap dot fd and repeat - need only to hug the wall near the columns on west side of room to avoid agro... hug it tight. close fight but nonetheless but can be done... put pet on other side of him and let pet push towards wall... easiest way with group is just have tank stand just outside his spawn spot and push towards wall... anything else and ul wipe for sure without mezzes :)

I'm a lvl 70 SK with viction 10.3k and not even 2k ac with full def aa's and soloed it to make it easier for grp cause 1 person push is alot less then a whole grp. Did it once unslowed and once slowed. Might be an idea to use for your grps in the future.

Look me up on eqrankings for my magelo sk/saryrn cause i suck at linking that stuff if any if wanna know more detail on how bad my toon sucks.

Also just tried a techniqe to corner the Dragorn, stand in cubby then drop invis and move into the corner closest to him and he goes to the corner opposite in the cubby. Just tested it twice on named and works like a charm. Just make sure everyone in corner for AE cause I was'nt 2nd time and got agro and pulled all the mobs to zin.

Map - http://eq.mapfiend.net/view.php?map=dranikcatacombsc_1_4386.txt&bg=b&id=285

ph mob = a noc in the se corner of the room
instance = Catacombs-C (have to zone in)
respawn = 19 mins
duration = instance lasts 6 hours

The location of the mob/placeholder is correctly marked on that map. We were able to invis all the way to the camp site. I dunno if that was luck or what, as we'd heard of see invis mobs.

Due to the huge agro, we couldnt find a 'safe' camp spot. Our group (Mnk/Shm/Wiz/necro) decided to camp ON the spawn point. We buffed, shrunk and invis'd to the noc PH location.

We scrunched up against the wall and had monk break invis and punch the mob into the corner/wall where we were able to kill it w/o agro'n the rest of the room. One time, the monk stepped too far away from the wall during the fight and got agro on some room mobs, so stay close.

It's possible to ONLY kill that noc/Dragorn w/o killing anything else in the room. Tho there are 2 named PHs in his room if your group can handle breaking the room.

We got 2 Signets and had to kill perhaps 4? PH mobs.

There are only 2 SI mob in catacombsc between the PH camp and entrance.

First is literally the first mob in the zone, just as you go around the second corner a rat is on the right side, FD classes can bypass it easily by FDing on the ramp just after the mob.

Second is ANNOYING!!! There is a square room just south of the signet camp with an SI rat in it.... heis in the NW corner of the room and you have to wait for him to path south before you can run past. Beware if you kill this mob there are ikaav andukun pathers.

Both of these rats have a chance of being SI or not... It's all luck.
