I tried over and over (09/05/2022) and he wouldn't spawn, in the cup, out of it, but I was invisible. Clicked off invisible and he popped while I was in the cup. I didn't see anyone else here post that detail. GL!

I went to the desert without hailing Talwyn Flamecaller first and this guy would not spawn. I ported back to Lavastorm, hailed Talwyn, and he spawned immediately. I stood in the cauldron on the plateau and said 'I have come for your gem'.
Trouble Spawning Mob

I was having trouble spawning this mob today. I kept spamming "I have come for your gems" AROUND the cauldron and it was not working. I actually got inside the cauldron and said it and he spawned. So if it does not work, you have to get on top or nearly inside it. The only problem was, I couldn't get out. I had to be cothed out. He spawned from the ramp area and walked directly to the cauldron.

Also, that mana drain is no joke. 4 groups of level 70s and we were all oom by 50%. GL

Never mind. Just realized you have to say, "I have come for your gems." to get him to spawn... After that it's a breeze. Just be careful of that mana drain..Ugh, it's a pain.
How does he spawn?

85 ranger tried soloing while wiz hid in a courner, t5 healer emrc manaless about 10-15% into the sun rev, had 5 of the ping's potion pack potions on me, died at 0% because i didn't space guardian of the forest out, 33k, 4k ac hits were a joke but no heals and high hp causes issues. advice, bring healer and hide off in the distance till ur called on. (85 ranger saryn, kaolu)
no flurries no quads not sure what spell did (minus mana drain) freakish human things do not add. max hit 1.2k average hit 345 ish single and spaced out with 7-8 misses of its :)

Just did with a 84 bard, 80 cleric, and 76 mage with 2 tier 3 tank mercs and a tier 3 cleric. This fight sucks... Cleric logged in wizzy and spawned him then got cleric. Merc healers mana doesnt last long but cleric just ran in and promised healed the tanks and ran back out of range. Pretty long and slow fight but doable.

Let me start by saying I 1-boxed the entire mage 1.5 with basically the group listed below. At that time, they were 1-2 levels lower and ~100 AA lighter.

I tried this with 80 mage, 79 sham, 77 war, 76 cleric, 84 wiz.

On the first go, the casters were too close and got nailed by the mana drain. Two casts (one from clr one from shm) of RC4 did not cure it. The war didn't have any problem holding aggro or tanking, but the max hit on the war with CS18/CA16 15%shielding was 2670 in SoF/SoD group gear (23kHP,3400AC). The casters were oom very fast (about 85% mob health) and right before evac, the mob's DPS really increased and the war went from 60% health to dead.

Regroup, had lvl 85 rog join (out of group with merc healer). Sham put langor on war and sat back out of AE with pure spirit and GRC ready, mage sat at max range for Bolt of Molten Dross, cleric sat at max range for Sacred Light. War engaged, mage pet and rog on the back, mage chain nuked bolt until GoM proc then ran in to drop Rancorous Servant and back out, wizzie chain nuked, cleric healed with light (got cocky, ran in to drop a promise and got hit with drain), sham cured with one cast of pure spirit. Langor wore off just as mob died, so ~7min fight. Rog KS'd group doing 465k, cleric was oom on enrage, wizzie left happy to be done.

Make sure you have SoE/FoE on because I had to use the walls of the ruins to the east to levitate over into the cup to trigger him by saying "I have come for your gems". Nothing else got me high enough and the ruins are a bit away from the cup. I tried to say the phrase outside the cup, but it didn't work. Once I triggered him, he came walking towards the cup from the north. Duoed with an sk and monk. We had two merc healers, but they ran out of mana from his ae so fast that they really aren't worth mentioning as being there. Hope this helps.

80 Beast <Main>
80 Monk <Main>
80 Shaman <Bot>
76 Druid <Bot> (only cast two heals the entire fight)

Parsed doing 900160 total damage to ESR. (+/- due to me missing a few seconds in the beginning, and his regeneration)

7 minute long fight with him casting the following spells: Atol's Spectral Shackles [x3], Chaos Immolation [x3], Elnerick's Entombment of Ice [x1], Ethantis's Burning Blade [x1], Greater Sand Curse of Knowledge [x13], Greater Sand Curse of Life [x11], Invert Gravity [x1], Shock of Magic [x3], Telaka [x1]

I was boxing a cleric for this fight today and was able to keep out of range for the mana tap all but 1 time. I kept OOR, then ran in to HoT and PR, then ran back out. The time i did get hit, I cast cleric AA purify (lvl 1) to cure it before it did any damage. We had more than enough to do the encounter easily, however had things been closer I would have timed my runs to be right after the mana AE goes off as he would cast the greater sand curse of life every 30-40 seconds.

Note he cast all of the following during the encounter:
1 x Elnerick's Entombment of Ice
2 x Shock of Magic
1 x Wildmagic Strike
2 x Ice Spear of Solist
4 x Telaka (all 4 casts were in a row)
2 x Chaos Immolation
1 x Atol's Spectral Shackles
6 x Greater Sand Curse of Knowledge
5 x Greater Sand Curse of Life

Adding a write-up of my own after reading what others have done. Attempted a 3 box of this a few nights ago, after some 30 minutes of battling I wiped at 26%. Holyforge discipline added buku dps in addition to slay undead (I'm a pally). Using fast heals only taxed mana pools. Sun Rev's dps is mad when he finally goes oom, which takes much time.

toons were this unbuffed stats
75 pally 13khp 3,3kac 100 avoidance 25% shielding 950 aa
75 shaman 1100 aa 12k mana
70 cleric 7k mana 40 aa

After recovering, I invited a 2.0 rogue and proceeded to own, resulting in a dead Sun Rev and a happy wizzy.

I may have missed it but I didn't see anything in the posts about curing the curse. Is regular RC enough or must you have RGC? Also, would say cleric AA Respledent Cascade cure this?

Thanks for any help.

Killed to day with 1 grp, 2 people boxing. War (15k HP 3k AC unbuffed) Shammy, Clr, Bard, Wiz Chanter. War and Shammy CoA geared rest Qvic / Time / TSS Tier 2.

Cleared the area around the cauldron, Wiz ran to the cauldron and triggered "/sa I have come for your gems", then War pulled when he was next to the cauldron.

Had war tank him a bit away from the rest to avoid the AE, did get hit a few times any way but cured it fast most of the time . . . Shammy and Clr to turns on healing, shammy took over at 20% when Clr ran OOM due to the AE maindrain DoT. Shammy (main toon with better focus) stayed OOR the whole fight. All in all really NP but good focus helps.

What would be recommended as a minimum for a Time/Qvic/TSS tier 2 gear raid. I see people saying theyve done with 1 or 2 groups but what should I bring, how many of what.. Any fellow wizards that have been stuck in this type of situation?

Any comments would be helpful.

It depends on a couple of factors: We one grouped this encounter, but most of us are were DP/DK gear with highest instrument Mode Bard with all instrument aa's.

For the the level of gear that you are asking about, I would say 2-3 groups. What you definitely needs is at least 1 bard, and plenty of people that can cure the curse component. The AE's are a pain for people with low hps b/c agro will bounce around. If you have the max stat's veteran AA I would suggest using it. Getting your resists to cap will help you resist the prismatic parts. If you have at least 1 1.5-2.0 cleric in each group you should be ok. The spell slow makes CH rot nearly impossible so lots of spam heals are needed. If you get things cured, 3 balanced groups with good DPS should do you. This is a burn fight, so go all out on dps and discs.

We've done this fight about 6 times now and prior to tonight we had been just putting him against zone wall and going hit for hit with him. A few lessons we learned:
1) there isnt a wall in the zone that will block the AE (since its an outdoor zone and walls wont block aes in outdoor zones, from what they say)
2) the ruins close to where he spawns will not work for a place to corner him (he can and does get pushed through the wall there).

The first 4 times we've done this we have taken extreme casualties, finishing with anywhere from 5 to 15 people left standing out of about 40 (using the strat of putting him at zone wall, trying to keep clerics out of range of his ae, and letting the melees go to town on him). Last night we did him two times in a row after wiping the on the first attempt using our normal strat.

The next time we engaged we made it a simple ranged only fight with the MA and SA being the only ones in combat with him(no pets because of push problems). Healers had to stick to quick heals so they could stay out of range of the AE but we finished it twice taking 2 deaths each time from necros that over dotted. We fought him next to the ruins where he spawns. I think someone else said it earlier, pretty much if you keep your healers out of his mana drain ae range it doesnt matter what you bring for dps really.
oye!

Ok, didn't expect this guy at all. Came to plateau to farm some condensed flame pieces to finish up fletching. Unfortunately he agros if you pull any mobs too close to him. Oh well.... no VT shard, no condenced flame.... waste of a zone IMO.

Killed with 6 people

1 Warrior with 18k buffed HP
2 Wizards
1 Cleric with 12k mana
1 Rogue
1 Necro

Cleric had to use an Elixir of Refreshment because he ran oom during the fight, so better bring 2 clerics if you try this ;)

We found out by accident that he was undead. Our raid was doing this event as a ranged fight when one of our paladins landed a Slay -- using an arrow! You could hear all our paladins pause for a second, then just about all of them asked at once, "Is he undead?!" After that, all the paladins tossed caution to the wind and charged him. He dropped fast. =)

Repop time on his little script is exactly 1 hour, was tested after a raid which got one of our wizards their 1.5. Note this is from the time he is spawned the initial time, not from his death.

Also He does not aggro for about a minute after he is spawned, giving the wizard enough time to abscond out of the pot

Just finished this fight.
After both tash and malos, I could slow him using Balance of Discord. He still resisted about 1 of each 3 casts of BoD though.

Finally dropped this guy
# Jul 25 2005 at 1:05 PM Rating: Decent
The Order of Draconis (Dro) smoked this guy finally on try #4. Strategy was simple: pop vet aa, squish this guy in a corner on top of the plateau (the stone ruins is a nice place to do this), have clerics heal on the edge of his 3k DD proc (approximately every 60 seconds this will proc on the MA), ease into the DPS ( no need to burn this guy at 90% as long as your healers can keep you up), and viola! Enjoy your reward!

Oh yah, I forgot to mention we had approximately 50 EP/Time geared people in the raid and we only lost 1 person.
