These things are so much fun to hunt. Sometimes you get the easy one with 20 hitpoints, and the next time you will get a smart one that chain stuns you and takes you to the last inch of your life. After you reach level 25 or so, I think the easiest way to hunt them is solo. That makes their Charm spells useless. The only time I have ever seen a group death hunting these guys was a result of a charmed tank or cleric. The biggest thing to remember when hunting them is to not panic. They will do all kinds of crazy things to you (charm, blind, dot, stun, and blast you back 30 feet), just keep wacking or blasting away and they will go down fairly easily.

The only other problem is their pet pathing. If you are hunting them in the Gorge, their pets take an odd route to get to you (if you stand by the back wall). If there is a mino or muddite in the path they will bring that with them. If I’m using my druid, I will harmony everything in sight before going after the EE.

I have killed a lot of EE's (and Lord's) over the past few weeks. Last night one dropped an item I had never seen or heard about, a bottle of "Beholder Optic Nerve Fluid", MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP. No other stats, anyone have any idea what its for?

I'm guessing that they are adding in all sorts of new items - they'll probably be used for new quests, etc... when SOL is released.

As a 35 druid, with full shields up, these SoB's hit with a spell that does ~100 damage, and knocks one back a good 20 to 30 feet.
Also, they take an insanely little amount of time to recover from the evil eye blast.
the moral of the story is: these suckas is bad news unless they are kept stunned. hope that helps some

Of Evil Eyes and Gas Spores.
# Oct 25 2001 at 11:22 PM Rating: Excellent
There are two types of 'Evil Eyes' or rather mobs with the 'Evil Eye' Graphic.

1- Your standard Evil Eye, and Enchanter (unless in Runnyeye, then they are Wizards) and WILL charm you at any oppotunity. From experience they will usually try to hit you with a blindness spell, if that happens, don't panic, if you are a caster, nuke it using your ALT+(spell number) to nuke it, if you are a melee, if you are too far away from the evil eye to remember its approximate location, just run off and type /loc, just in case you die, when you return to your bind point and the screen clears at least you will see your location. Anyway, never bother with the pet first, just lay the smack down onto the EE and if you can fear, just fear the pet away, when fear breaks and it realises it's master is dead, the pet will suicide. Might as well, since you get almost 0 exp from killing pets.

2- Gas Spores that look like Evil Eyes. These you can tell are fakes, because they will NOT have a pet with them. If you are in an outdoor zone, and have no pet it is a Gas Spore, indoors the Evil Eyes are usually wizards, so they have no pets to check this with. If you see an EE outdoors without a pet, Shoot it with an arrow or throw something at it, or blast it with a spell or something, but stand a distance away, when these die, they realise an invisible AOE spell of Infectious Spores. I'm not sure but i think it is a 6hp/tick over 20 ticks. I don't have EQcaster.exe to counter check this, maybe i will in the future. or not. But sometimes the Gas Spore is much more deadly that the EE, as the EE's spells can be resisted with enough Magic Resist, and usually no one will think to buff their Disease Resist when fighting an 'Evil Eye', and 90% of the time you will NOT resist the disease spell.

Gas Spores also do not drop anything.

Take care adventurers.

Thats rediculouse, i've killed many of them 1hp eyes and they do not release gas...though i do wish they were red when i killed them..that would be pretty good xp for the 1hp one if it coned the same as the other ones. What the heck you talking about even if they did release a gas 6hp per tick for 20 ticks wouldnt be anything, that would only be 120hp, but it doesnt happen so thats void anyway.

Ok, just to clear this up (although it already has been cleared up above)(see above). The 1 hp "evil eyes" are actually an eye summoned by the spell: eye of zomm. They let the caster see places where he/she can't go. They only have one hp, don't drop anything, and don't give exp. The "evil eyes" that the above message was talking about are gas spores. Which I've never seen, but I'm assuming look like "evil eyes", no...wait...scratch those quotation marks.Well anyway, hope this helps ya out with your spores "problem" (sorry, couldn't resist...)

EE in EK
# Oct 13 2001 at 4:27 PM Rating: Default
I had just come off the ramp in East Karana with my lvl 20 SK. There was a lvl 21 warrior with me. We were headed to the druid camp to check it out when we saw the evil eye. It conned blue to both of us, and neither of us had seen one before, so we thought we would give it a try. We saw the EE pet as we got closer, so I went after the pet while the warrior went after the EE. Before I knew what was happening, the warrior I was with started hitting me. I figured out pretty quick the EE had charmed him, so I decided it was time to run (knowing full well the warrior could kick my butt). Then I was hit with darkness, which went away fast and the warrior had become uncharmed so we were headed for the bridge as fast as we could. Got about 10 steps when I got hit with darkness again, and this time it wasn't going away. The screen was entirely black until I showed up at my bind point. I scrolled up the screen a bit and saw that the warrior had been charmed again and had proceeded to slaughter me, for which he apologised profusely for when he showed up at his bind spot a few seconds later. I was laughing so hard I could barely tell him to stop saying sorry. As soon as he realized I wasn't mad at him, and explained what happened, he was laughing pretty hard too.

Now when I am in EK, it is only to run thru as fast as I can...least till I get to a much higher lvl and come back and whip the EE's butt (if it has one). I'm sure the warrior will be happy to come with me.
RE: EE in EK
# Oct 17 2001 at 3:16 PM Rating: Default
I've fought this EE twice in EK as a lvl 20 druid and both times a stinging swarm, a couple ignites and a fast run from my charmed lvl 22 ranger partner allowed us to kill it without either of us dieing. Of course not having SoW on my partner keep him from whomping on me when he gets charmed.

The stinging swarm finishes off the EE and the charm doesn't last long so when he comes out of it he finishes off the pet usually following the EE with ease.

Hey I had a 12 Necromancer running to EK for a guild meeting when one aggores on my pet. It took out my pet witha DoT after the fight eveen with mend bones it still died but I had killed the EE with a Lifedraw for 41 points of damage boom dead the pet died along with it it dropped a stalk of nerves, a hoop, and a PBB! The thing conned red to me at 12 and I got xp like crazy about 1 yellow bubble with jsut the one spell! I sold the stalk to a vender but kept the hood and PBB then someone told me the the hoop sucked sold it to a vender cause no one wanted it.

You cannot get more then HALF a yellow of exp from any SINGLE kill...
RE: Hehe this is odd...
# Jun 05 2002 at 10:45 AM Rating: Decent
you can get at least a yellow from a kill.. I angered a vengeful soloist in everfrost peaks. I tell you, those vengeful skeletons are overconned. I dispatched the goofy skelly and my exp had either risen one whole yellow or not at all.. it was a red and it said "you have gained experience," so I'm pretty sure that you can get a yellow from a kill. Oh and whenever you kill something on level one, you get a full yellow.

Heh - nearly had a run in with one this evening and didn't even know it - saw what looked like a shrunk enchanter with a pet run by (the "brownie" from below) but didn't realise what it was at the time. My troll SK is 20th and hits for up to 60 with his BABS - they sound like something I can handle - god help any nubes if it charms me though.

Anyway, do they have a certain area they spawn in and is there a place holder or spawn table that they share?

These things now cast Illusion: Human on themselves. I thought that it was a bug when we killed it; the thing looked and sounded like a Brownie. Then the next night we saw it cast on itself and actually change it's form. After that it enchanted a lion and it wandered off with it's own Enchanter pet (the animated shield and sword) and a lion....

#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 30 2001 at 10:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK. i was playing in EK and i was about to cast on this dude. then all of a sudden a person green to me came in front of me and killed it. he said he was a gm. he was checking if he could kill it with a horrible weapon so he could tell everyone the bug was not fixed. so i inspected him he had all this nice equipment, and his weapon was AN ORC PAWN PIC!!! I thought that was riggen wierd. so i came back the next day to kill it so i could see if i could kill it. it hit me for 200 points! luckily i killed it with one dd spell.
Ok this keeps happening...

I have killed three of these things now and each time have hit them once for about 41 hp's and they have died, i get full xp off them and they're blue so i can't complain except that one of them gave me infectious spores but two cure diseases worked on that. I have recently been informed that these things have 300hp's or more but so far this has proved illusive.
EK Evil Eye Loot
# Aug 19 2001 at 12:00 AM Rating: Default
I would agree with those that have said that these normally have pretty lousy loot in EK. I had killed more thana dozen and gotten the onyx ring and quartz crystal, which are basically only good to newbies if at all. But recently, I killed one and it had FIVE drops!!! It dropped the polished bone bracer, polished bone hoop, bunch of optic nerves, evil eye stalk, and silver amulet -- two highly sought after drops at once! Add to that the fact that the EE was in human form (Illusion: Human I believe), this made for a once-in-a-lifetime evil eye experience.

Eye evils are easy kills for wiz 20+
# Aug 10 2001 at 11:47 PM Rating: Default
Here is the tatic you use with a wiz.
Get barely inside your lightning bolt range.
Make sure it is not moving or your second lighting
bolt might be out of range and do nothing.

When you are just inside your bolt range, lauch
two of them and you will be able to cast a shock
of lightning just when the pet and eye are attacking you. If you are lucky and get the SOL
off without any good saves by the eye, it will be
dead. The pet it easy, just root it and nuke it with one bolt and one shock.

If the eye makes good saves, then try and cast shock of lightning as much as possible until it is
dead. Eventually it will cast charm, so you have to kill it fast. Rooting the pet only leaves more time for the eye to cast spells on you. Just keep casting until the eye is dead and it is critical to get both bolts off before it attacks.

I got one bracelet so far out of 10 kills. It is a reasonable bracelet. +2ac, +3 int +3 wis

I attacked my first Evil Eye in EK just after I hit level 20 and got my new Wiz DD, Force Shock. I opened with a lightning bolt and and then a root on the Eyes pet only to be charmed instantly. The eye wandered me over to a newbie fighting a Silvermist Wolf and dropped the poor guy with one blast of Force Shock. I'm going to wait a few more levels before I try to solo them again, for the good of my fellow players :)

The evil eyes themselves have right around 300HP. The ones in the gorge are on king xorbb faction now with a +hit to pickclaw gobs and clan runnyeye. On rare occasions you will get an evil eye that has something under 20HP, thats twenty as in one hit with a 2 hander, but eyes spawning like this are pretty rare. They rare drop PBBs, their common drops are the rings, hoops, optic nerves, quartz crystals, common words/runes/pages/gems for their level and the really common drop is the stackable evil eyestalks. The 10 mana hoops aren't worth lugging around and fetch a couple GPs to a vendor but all the other drops seem to sell for at least a plat. The charm is nasty if they give exp and they can and will charm groupmates, you, pets even when they have their own pet up. If you can, have a caster with good magic resist lay into them with some heavy nukes and then the rest of your group can go after it while it attempts to charm the caster, never send melees or pets in first if you are grouped because they usually manage to charm them and having your warrior chase you around can be fatal. Fear kiting is an excellent tactic for killing these as that renders their most dangerous tool, charm, useless. Even when they are green they can get a rare charm off so if your a higher level pet class looking for some drops try to nuke them down and just keep the pet around for moral support and to finish off their pet. Just an FYI I was charmed as a 51 bard by one in east karana once, pretty scary to have someone in planar armor chasing down the lowbies but luckily I had an instrument out and NPCs haven't figured out how to use bard songs yet so I didn't kill anyone. I don't have a ton of experience with the eyes in runnyeye except that they are wizards and probably have even less than 300HP and I'm not sure if any of them even drop the same items as the ones in the gorge and east karana do. They usually see through cammo, superior cammo and invis spells/songs but not rogue sneak/hide.

Okkk.. so I'm not the only one....

Last night I kicked an evil eye for 11 points of damage and it died.

It didn't have any loot, but I was really surprised. I've read that this is a bug (from earlier posts) but it seems like lots of people are encountering this....

Anyone have more info on it....
