Killed all the hynids in Kod'taz so went wandering. found a wary hynid here does drop a hynid mane. this is not the pristine hynid mane but the one I needed for tradeskills
so far all i've seen on it is hynid hides.
Success comes when preparation meets opportunity -- and EQ is no exception.

I hunted the two animal spawns in Yxtta nearest the Kod Taz zone, looking for Pristine Manes for teh Cragbeast quest. It took me about 15 hours of killing over the course of five days, in between raids and such to get my three drops. Respawn time is 20 minutes and can be either a Wary Hynid or a Ravenous Cragbeast. Both spawn anywhere from 64-66th level. You can single pull either spawn point. Occasionally a roaming mob (noc or mastruq or ukun) will wander up between the two points, and may aggro if the hynid is rooted in its spot.
All in all I killed more than 85 Wary Hynids and another 40 or so Cragbeasts. The mane is pretty rare, and I never saw the earring.
