In Fear Itself: Note: For all map points of nameds in Fear Itself (for "thuledream.txt" map files), see this quest entry. PHs are "an enraged scareling" on and around the big hill in the eastern part of the zone (known to spawn near Quest NPC Hildran Heartguard). It hits for a max ~11,000 and spawns adds called "Essence of Rage".

Took him down last weekend in second attempt. The first was nearly a whipe because he appeared surprisingly and we didn't know anything about him. His AoE Mezzes are a pain in the a..., but, what do you do against mezzing Mobs? Right, DoT yourself. So we got Potions for those who couldn't cast DoTs, we others dottet ourselves and took him down fairly easy Just let the MT wack Ireblind and some other the adds, really not that Problem (22 Players average 59). Just don't forget to refresh your selfdot. Hope this helps a bit.

Only lost MT, 2 clerics, one Shaman and 58 War to the whole swarm. Not bad for a 22 people raid, avg 61.
Fight took about 9 minutes

Ok, to break this down then:

*He spawned immediately from a killed Scareling.
*Did not get him to spawn a second time, and we killed quite a few more Scarelings.
*Not stunnable by our Pallys
*Stunnable from Weapon proccing Planar Stun
*AoE:s an unresistable STUN (not mezz) like a clockwork. Stun lasts for 21 –22 sec, then you have 8-9 sec before the next Stun. Rince and repeat.
*DoT:s on yourself DOES NOT break the stun.
*Enrages
*Rampages
*Essence of Rage and Ireblind Imp both breaks stun on raidmembers and attack them. Did not see any regular mobs do this.
*Essence of Rage hit me for 50 points average (58 War, AC 1250, no defensive disc up).
*Ireblind Imp hit me for 107 points average.
*Does not seem to have that many HP:s. Life went down steadily when people were actually attacking him..

This guy isn't THAT hard. But he is a challenge so go expecting a few deaths. We raided him last night *GO STALKERS* with about 24 people, avg lvl around 60 i think. His AOE mez is killer and goes off constantly. I was maybe getting one Scars of Sigil off, sometimes 2 before i got remezzed. But thats not hte problem. The problem is the 4000 little essence of rage he spawns *k, more in the area of 15-20 but...geeze..* These guys will run around and just whack the crap out of you. THey don't hit hard but since there are so many of them the hits add up! All in all it was a very fun fight, lost 7 people and i died RIGHT after we killed the imp. I was getting chased by a bunch of his buddies and when he died I figured i'd stop and look to see if they despawned when he died. They don't! He did drop zerker epic peice, but since i've only seem him down once dunno if thats common or not.

We encountered this mob last night after comming into fear on a rescue mission for some of our guildies. We had formed a raid of 20+ people consisting of people from our guild, our allied guild and a few from a larger guild. Average level of the raid was 63. There was another guild that came in and assisted in breaking in... so that part was not that bad. We managed to get the orriginal "death group" rezzed and buffed on the west wall... and then we decided since we were already there we would continue on and take care of a few epic pieces. We proceeded to head east on the west wall and took down the mob for the Wizzy epic with no problems. As the raid move on over the hill... out of nowhere came the Imp. Nobody in the raid had ever encountered him before and knew nothing of his power... we lost 6 or 7 people before I called for a camp. We did manage to get him down to 60% life before camp was called. This mobs AoE was unreal... and took us all by surprise. Now that we know what he can do and how to combat his stun we will be able to work more efficiantly against him. All we can suggest is Dots on the members ... bring your Necs, Sk's, Shaman and your Druids and hope that you can deal enough damage before you wipe. It is deffinatly not a zone you want to hang around in... get what you need and get out.

Just have to say that this mob is totally out of line with the difficulty of the rest of the zone, particularly since you're not likely to be able to avoid him, like you can with the other "boss" mobs of the zone.

Not that I think many people ever came to Fear as an exp. group, but a mob like this with a random spawn has just totally eliminated even the possibility of Fear as an experience zone.

edit-Found out that it is magic based instead of poison.

listen folks, this is not a mob that should discourage you from doing your berserker's epic. Yes, the time guilds have wiped on him. However, when my raid of 10 people, avg lvl 63, and mostly nubs, came across him shortly after the expansion came out we still managed to kill him despite having 0 knowledge of him. its possible, just takes a heckuva lot of patience. and now knowing about the little lich trick im sure this encounter is even more feasible for all you out there with small nub guilds

Wish I had seen these posts PRIOR to jumping into Fear last night. GRRRR..wiped the raid of all 65s with quite a few AAs and Epics.

We were not expecting the AoE mezz and let me tell you it has an unbelievable range.

Ok, keep reading you will read all the experiences and the solutions. IT IS NOT impossible, but it is very difficult. I applaud SONY for such an interesting mob, but I am a little suprised he is in this zone.

No worries, we shall conquer the EBILNESS!!!

***WARNING*** - rant ahead

I do not take away from Sony's ability to create new and intresting mobs to tackle. Thats all kool. And, had my guild gone into Fear looking to kill this particular mob, and wiped the way we did,...there is no one to blame but ourselves.

However, at this point in time,..whenever ANY guild, group, or raid goes into Fear from now on,..they have a Very good chance of running into this fellow , weather they wanna deal with him or not. And to see so many people , from so many servers, give the same account of this mob wiping out lvl 65 raids at the zoneline,...there is a huge problem. Ya can't even get in the zone without being prepared to go up against this guy. I mean,..lol...this is not Sleepers Tomb. There , you have to kill 5 dragons jus to get into the zone. Here, you have to risk a raid of 25 people, average lvl 61 jus to step into the zone.

Any mob in the game **is not that difficult** when you prepare a little , and have technique down. DO ya think 99% of people who visited this zone previously have ANY CLUE to dot them selves , and prepare for the worst when entering now? No. And for an average group/raid that wants to obtain, say , the childs tear for shammy epic, they hardly stand a chance against this guy if he is on ya from the get go.

My major gripe here isnt really the mob. Heck, i know if i go to too far into a zone like, Umbrel plains, i may attract mobs i do not want. Or ANY zone for that matter. But i cannot think of a zone off hand (where lvl 46 is minimum access) where you risk wiping upon entry. Move the stoopid mobs spawn point. Dont make him come outta dead scarlings. They are all over ya at the zone in to Fear. Its impossible not to kill them,..thus , very very likely you will spawn the Imp. on top of that .....he can spawn again 10 minutes later?!?!?!? GOD how i wish Talendor, or Gore, or Fay popped every ten minutes. I would have had my epic at lvl 40.

So, ....not only is it a total zone-***** the way they have this guy set up,..but how fair is it to every other class in the game that has to wait 3-4-or 7 days for an epic mob to spawn,..and this guy wipes raids upon zone in, and IF you kill him,....ya jus might have to deal with him ten minutes later.

Im sorry to rant,..but Sony has dropped the ball here. This guy is unreasonable for the zone in to Fear. This is an old school plane. Let people of the appropriate lvl AT LEAST be able to GET INTO the zone. They wanna keep the imp in fear,..fine....jus..MOVE IT. Keep him away from the zone in, or keep him from spawning there. At least then, you are not forced to deal with this mob to get in Fear. At least then if a raid wipes , with the intention of killing this mob, there is no one to blame but yourself. If i need to help someone get a epic piece from Fear, the first thing out of EVERYONE'S mouth is, do we have to deal with the imp? Sadly,...the person who needs the epic drop realizes how much NO ONE wants to HAVE TO deal with Ireblind imp,...jus to get a friggin epic drop from Fright. Gimmie a break.

At this point, i have rigamortis in my finger from pointing it at Sony. Flat out, they need to change this mob. Period. No ands, ifs, or butts. Trust me when i say , alot of people are NOT happy about this one.

By the way , as long as im on the subject , Sony, PUT THE NERF STICK DOWN !!!! Just ,...Lay it on the ground at your feet,...take ten steps back , and walk away!!!!!!!!! My god,..FISHING!!! You people nerf FISHING!!! God knows all those worm-toting EQ players were jus WAY outta line exploiting the unparalleled sport of fishing. You guys up in your office suites have WAY too much time on your hands.

**WHACK** Thank you sir, may i have another?

My guild (House of Aegis, Luclin server) took him down without too many problems, just made sure everyone casted a low level (level 4 for me) dot on themselves. You get mezzed less than 6 seconds later your dot breaks it. Fortunatly the MA was a SK so he could dot himself, not sure about the clerics though, perhaps the druids did the healing. I wasn't paying attention to who was healing I was just trying to put out some DPS to end the mezzing madness. BTW My guild is almost all 65's but gear is pre-elemental planes.

i can not believe time-geared guild would wipe in fear from this dumb mob, seriously i agree with you guys 46+zone how the heck did sony put him there i don't understand ,
thank god for me before this happened i got my shaman's and chanter's epic pieces from there and i am sorry for the ones that haven't yet but i think that we all should write to sony about this i mean most of us spent thousands of dollars over the years to SOE and this is how they repay us WEIRDOS!
what happened to test server did they even test this mob themselves? well i dont know if they did they better come out with IMMUNE to mez potions or something lol.
anyways you wont see me in fear unless they fix this

Ok,..So here is my question . How long is it going to take to get this mob fixed? If somebody doesn't realize the ridiculous nature of this mob, then EQ itself is as fixed as bazarr pricing. Let me explain my viewpoint on this. Fear is a lvl 46+ zone. Its a nasty zone with a couple of good groups of 50's. But when you have an average raid lvl of 61 amongst 25 people, and you wipe at the ent of a zone that was already a trick to get into? A zone, mind you , that has no accessable exit nearby. We went in there to gather a few epic drops for guild members, something we have done several times before, and our entire raid gets slain at the ent. What was worse was,..we had no way to get in to get our bodies. We called for reinforcements, and alot more folks died. After calling for help in poK for quite some time, a Time - geared guild came into the zone , and killed the imp. They were surprised at the fight the imp put up and agreed it was way too powerful for its zone/purpose. So as the 50+ dead naked people rushed in to gather their belongings off of corpses that were too old to rez,..The IMP POPS AGAIN !!! I was far from him, and still getting hit by his stuns. We gathered what we could as quick as possible and left. The fiasco lasted 7+ hours , and initial reply given by a GM was *Everything is working properly in the zone, your on your own*. Evidently, early the next morning another GM pulled all corpses remaining from the zone, agreeing something was likely bugged.

All in all, there is a serious problem with this mob. Normal guilds cannot enter this zone with risking the same fate ours did,..and suffering the same response of "Well,..it is not our problem 50 people are dead in a zone because of an impassible mob, it is your problem to deal with". Somebody has got to wake up and smell the Qeynos Afternoon Tea. 50 people!! Dead, in fear!!! average lvl 61 !!! This is an old world plane. You guys wanna create a super-mob that takes a time-geared guild to kill,..then put the mob where it belongs. In PoTime, or GoD. I feel sorry for shammies and chanters and warriors and serkers especially trying to get their epic pieces with this ingenius creation blocking your path in this zone.

So,..i wonder how much time we gotta wait for this one to get fixed...

/agreed the mob is very annoying and IMO placed very poorly.
However he's not as mean as you make him out to be.
Taken him out 3 times now without too much wiping. None of these kills had a Time/EP equipped RF. All were between 3-4 groups avr. 60ish and I believe it could have been done by less.
As I said I do believe SOE messed up with putting him there and my love of PoFear has decreased somewhat because of him, but you shouldn't discourage ppl completely by making him a Time mob. I mean he max hits for 200ish and has 60-70ish K hp, low resists and is really not *that* tough.
Just needs some tactics to pull off. ;)

RE: How much time ?
# Mar 15 2004 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
Those tactics would be to do as much damage as possible in the short 10 to 12sec burst you have every time mez wears off.

/rant on

And the other trick is to not be stupid.

Don't kill the scarelings like every other mob on break in, take a good enchanter with your break in group and keep the stupid scarelings mezed till everything else on break in is dead, then one by one tote them out of the way, kill them and then deal with the imp if he spawns.

The biggest thing is to just not freak out. That's what gets these "time enabled lvl65" groups killed. They weren't expecting the mob.

If we always knew what was going to happen next in this game then it really wouldn't be that much of an adventure, but then some people are lazy and want to have everything spelled out to them.

/rant off.

This guy is not really *that* tough if you are prepared. I've been in 3 break ins to PoF since this guy has been there. The first time was right after he went there and no one knew he was there. Holy freakin hell that was wild. Now he's just another mob that requires a special tactic. You must keep a level head about you in this fight and just deal with what comes.

Some people mention using shaman dot potions to keep yourself un-mezed. This only works if the dot dmg per tick is more than your regen per tick. So that would mean no one has regen spells or items on them for that to work. It is better in the long run to just plan the entire thing.

As I pointed out in my "rant" section, you need to save the scarelings till last and then fight them seperate from their friends. That way if the Ireblind whipes your raid you can recover pretty easy. Once he loses agro he doesn't wander from the corpse of the scareling that spawned him, and he has a small agro radius, so you can isolate him with that method.

I just did this tonight with some people from my guild. We are a well equppied time guild. This entire encounter is purley ridiculous. We started with 9 of us, wiped badly on break in. The Imp was up right at zone in, doing his AOE mezzes, then when it wore off everything agroes. We finally got someon to kite it away aftrer we got back to the zone in. We had about 8 more people come, and still nearly died. We had a warrior who had earthshaker, and mage, chanter wizard follow west wall then head towards the temple. There we just aoed about 30 mobs. When we went to kill the imp we chaged it. Had a sk use his skele form so he was dotted to keep from being mezzed. Then the imp spawns, adds, then more adds, then more adds.. there were so many adds around.. chanters had a hard time mezzing them , becuase they were being mezzed, clerics couldnt heal becuase of being mezzed, nukers couldnt nuke becuase of being mezzed.. this fight along with the dragon in Dagnors cauldron is completely unacceptable for what should be challenging, but not over challenging. I cant imagine a lesser guild trying this. And to think epics are supposed to be on the lines of kunark era toughness. This is way beyond Kunark style toughness. I sure hope the rest of the epic isnt as retarded as this encounter. It wasnt even enjoyable becuase of how unfair the fight was. It needs to be tweaked down a bit.
Even after we killed the imp.. sure enough there was a scarleing left , we didnt think about it, kiled it, and BLAM anotehr ireblind imp spawned. And we went though all of that crap again :/ So long plane of fear.. hope i never have to see you again.

Four of us went in to kill the BG the other night and this guy spawned on us, the AE mez is just insane and has a huge range, I would say 1/4 of the zone at least.

If your going to fight him, get DoT potions to cast on yourself to break mez, that's the best suggestion I can give for engaging him.

After we spent 20 min doing a CR around this guy, we cleared a path around him to get to the BG and took him down with usual ease...

Oh yeah, he's still in the game.

Wiped a full raid of 40, from a VT-level guild, last night. He was already up at west wall when we came in (due to another guild's failed attempt). From what we could tell and what I read, he has three major irritations:

1) Unresistable AE mezz -- casts every 30 seconds, lasts 20 seconds (both approximate), range very large (500'). Supposedly this can be largely avoided with Stinging Wort potions.

2) Waves of adds -- as noted below, at 80%, 50%, and 20%. They're light blue to a lev 60.

3) Adds when someone dies or FDs -- like Shei V or RoV, you get even more mobs spawned when someone (or even a pet) dies. Our recovery team saw a lot of this.

I'd estimate he has around 80-100k hit points, based on how much damage I was doing with an SoS. No clue on what class he is.

I'd expect him to get "tuned" a bit -- this is a PoP boss-type fight, not really what you'd expect to see while zoning into an old-world epic-piece plane.

Had a rough time with this guy, but got him all figured out. All you need is a good SK or two, couple of druids to heal, and an enchanter to AE stun. The trick is to have the SKs and druids DoT themselves so they wake up from his AoE. Oh and don't forget to have your shaman along as well. All other classes, with the exception of maybe a ranger are useless here. Try this method and i'm sure you won't have such a tough time with him.

Was done with a raid of only 10 people. The average level was 63. We didn't even know this mob existed and accidentally came upon it. We spent the better part of an hour trying to kill him. We did eventually kill him with only a few players left standing. His little summoned imps do not despawn after the big imps death. After you take him down I would suggest letting the bard kite them around while the remainder of the raid force picks them off one by one. Extremely tough fight for unsuspecting victims, but possible with patience.

Complete wipe. We managed to get a cleric /q-ed in a relatively safe spot, and then had one of our rogues sneak all the corpses to that location. Cleric logged back in when the coast was clear, and then spent hours rezzing bodies. Anyone who's timer had run out had to reenter the zone, train as much as they could to the opposite end from the cleric, take another death, get dragged to the cleric, and then rezzed so they could loot their old corpse.

We had a few people who couldn't get back on to collect their corpses, so last night we organized a rescue mission for them. Initially we tried sending a team in to clear some of the area around where his corpse was. We had a mage, 2 chanters, cleric, and warrior, all 65 with epics and massive AA's, and one lowly druid for emergency porting (if there was time).

Soo.... with 6 more corpses in the zone, we had to find an alternate plan. Once again, rogue dragged all the corpses, and then a few of our people with feign death got in there and started clearing some space. One of our necs finally managed to get to the corpse pile, feign death, and /q out. After they had taken care of as much of the trash as they could, he logged back on, rezzed the cleric, and she took care of the rest of the corpses.

Please note: By the time this succeeded, that nec had 5 corpses of his own in the zone, the cleric had one that appeared as soon as he rezzed her the first time, our rogue had died once as well, and people from two seperate guilds who had thought to come in and "clear things out" for us, were also on the pile. This worked, but it took a great deal of time. None of these guys despawn, and if someone enters the zone while you're trying a recovery mission like this, their trains can wipe your group again. Do your best to keep everyone out of the zone who doesn't HAVE to be there, and be patient. Maybe with some more preparation we could take this guy out (when he doesn't have all his waves with him right from the start), but none of us are particularly eager to try. As long as he's up even scouting the zone can be deadly. We're not a Time-equipped guild, but we have taken out some of the nastier things going, and this is unlike anything we've seen.
The necromancer who saved the day no longer wants his epic.

We tried fear last night. On zoning in this **** was up.. with all of his babies with him, not unspawned as its supposed to be. He was actually on the entrance portal. Fear is bad enough, without this thing, to break in to.

His AoE mez is a real pain in the butt but not damaging, so more of an annoyance.

Do the Essence of Rages despawn when you kill the Ireblind Imp? Probably not, but hoping......

This mezz ae he casts is quite annoying. He chain casts it rouchly every 30 secs while he is agroed. The mez lasts for roughly 20secs. It has HUGE area of effect compared to the size of the zone. He doesnt despawn quickly. He was up for more than 3 hours while I was doing our cr. The mezz also has a chance to mem wipe the mobs it looks like, because half the time we got mezzed when we had single mobs on us, they never returned. He spawns immediately after the killing of the little imps. Making it tough to plan for if you're not expecting it. This was an effectively annoying and time consuming addition to Fear. May the heavens help you should you run into him.
Hes Quite cheap...

You definately want to spawn him far from your camp. His mere presence in the zone can completely rape any CR attempts after the mez makes the other mobs train more mobs on you after they wander off. The mez seems to fire off every 8 seconds after the previous one faded, making gating, evacing and rezzing problematic.
Not totally random

The biggest thing to remember with this guy is that he pops from the corpse of a scareling and then returns to that spot everytime his hate list is cleared.

So save the scarelings till last during break in, then makesure to kill them as far from camp as possible so that he spawns away from the camp.

He doesn't have the GIANT agro radius of everything else in the zone, so you can use agro to "issolate" him.

So far the quickest way to take him down has been like doing Trak for the bard epic, Lots of super HT SKs and Fast nuking wizards.

He is definately one to take down as fast as possible, just have a group set aside to handle the Essence of Rage imps that he spawns at intervals.
