Wisps require magic weapons to be hit. Wisps are non-aggressive, however they are extremely sociable.

The three variants of lightstones that they carry are excellent lightsources for humans and the other blind races.

My favorite pet
# Aug 29 2000 at 1:58 PM Rating: Decent
Wisps are my enchanter's favorite pet. Wisps are invulnerable, so a young kodiak can't hit them. Charm one and you've got a great pet ... as long as the charm holds.

This works with any creature that requires magical attack to be melee'd. However, most mobs you'll encounter midlevels and up will have magical attack themselves, so don't bank on having an invulnerable pet if you don't know the mob you're up against. =)

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this one. There are three places to trade GLS for the book. NK (for good), Sro (for evil) and another random Gypsie (sylvia or sumptin) (Evilish) in Oasis. Anyone know if the exp is the same for the last two I mentioned?

Decent experience and cash if traded in at the SRo loc. I get nearly 10pp when I turn them in to the smith (my Cha is very near 100 though). Just dangerous as hell of course to do it with all the undead and madmen walking about in the zone.

The other place the GLS can be turned in is to the Gypsie Synthan in oasis this is probably the safest place to turn them in just keep an eye out for mummies and dry bones

IT IS NOT KERRA ISLE. KERRA ISLE is a different zone full of Kerrans.

Wisp island DOES have Kerrans, but they are just 'there.' (merchants?)

Yes, it is.

Kerra RIDGE is the Kerran city. Check. I dare you.
NOT Kerra Isle!

The Island in Erud's Crossing isn't Kerra Isle, as it is often referred to. Kerra Isle is completely on the other side of Odus! I call it Wisp Isle.

One last thing.

One thing I forgot.

If you're going to hunt on Kerra Isle, get yourself bound in Qeynos. That way you have a short trip to find your corpse. If you get in trouble and have to run, consider this before you run to the boat: Do I want to risk a water corpse retrieval? If the answer is no, find a nice dry place to die, and go down swinging.

So you lose a little exp. Most of the time it's worth it to not have to swim in shark-infested waters to get your corpse (and there are a LOT of sharks around Kerra.)

In the zone called Erud's Crossing is a small (!) island called many things. Erud's Crossing, Wisp Isle, and Kerra Isle. I call it Kerra Isle because that's what it's called on the map. This is by far the best place to hunt wisps due to their high numbers and high concentration. Just be aware that they DO help each other out. It isn't uncommon to see people battling 2-4 wisps there. The location of the Gypsy woman in NK... I don't know the actual /loc, but it's about dead center. There's three roads that merge in the middle, each splitting as they join, forming a triangle shape. There's a gypsy camp (lots of tents) at the southern point. Hail the gypsies until one of them says something about the Concordance. That's the one that takes the GLS.

A little story about my experiences on Kerra Isle. As a lvl 11 monk, eager to test out my newly aquired magic gloves, I formed a group consisting of myself, a lvl 10 bard and a lvl 11 druid. We proceeded to happily and successfully annihilate the wisps we found, even when a wandering wisp dropped in to help his friend whom we were beating to a pulp. Then things went bad.

I was following a wisp with my two group-mates in tow, waiting for it to get far enough from the other two wisps nearby that we could attack without getting mobbed. Then our druid, in his infinite wisdom decides to become a tank. Whack, fight starts with the wisps. All three. I pull two off him and another off the bard, praying that the druid's heals and the bards songs will keep me alive long enough for the battle to end. The bard and I fought bravely while the druid proceeded to pull a wisp off me. Then another. And another. My best efforts could not prevent this druid from pulling every wisp off me. I have no clue what was going through his mind, I was not being badly beaten, but he seemed to want to die. He did. Now out numbered 3 to 2, the bard soon fell and I found myself with one recourse. Run. After 30 minutes of running laps around Kerra Isle I had by best count 12 wisps following me. Would've been nice to get a screen shot of, but I was a little pre-occupied with staying alive at the time. In the end I managed to make the boat. As I turned to look the wisps follow me, they moved across the water and disappeared from view under the boat. I never got hit, and I don't know what happened to them.

Moral: A. You can evade wisps on Kerra Isle by running to the boat. Just don't count on it. Best bet is to have a big lead and run to the dock from the village side (running clock-wise around the island). That may increase the odds of the wisps not following across the dock and therefore ending up under the boat, if that is in fact what saved my life.
B. Druids that think they're tanks need to be strung up by their short curlies.
Anyone know?

What is the best weapon for a wizard interested in soloing willowisps? Any advice on which wizard spells are best?

I use a Ketchata Koro Mis but a runed totem works pretty good too best for a wizard is to root and try to kill or soften it up big time with spells. And hope its friends don't happen along or you will be fighting two or more so kill it fast. :-)

I'm a lvl 14 paladin and they were pretty easy, just time consuming because they still go invulnerable at times.
Befallen
# Jul 06 2000 at 2:32 PM Rating: Decent
Yup. Befallen wisps are a different breed or something. They're no harder to kill, but are very magic resistant, at least to snare or root. And they aggro on you, especially if you are medding. Of course, there is nothing more annoying than having some little greenie wisp attack you, then run, bringing the entire dungeon back upon you. Let's just say my group of 18-19's had a sudden, quick, and painful end to it's adventure thanks to these little buggers and their magic resistance.

Wisps
# Jul 04 2000 at 4:21 PM Rating: Decent
The wisps in Qeynos Hills and Eruds crossing rarely resist my 5th lvl sicken spell so I don't think you can say they resist all spells below 8. Even the ones who resist my 9th lvl Tainted Breath Spell usually are affected by my sicken spell.

I don't believe there is any enchanter illusions that allow you to look like a willowisp. At least none that i have heard of.
No mage spells either. Not sure what you saw.
Wisp Observations
# Jun 21 2000 at 7:27 PM Rating: Decent
With regard to Tieranon's post 250-300 is generally accurate though i have killed one that had over 400. Wisps are much tougher than they con. They will miss you repeatedly only to smack you for 25 points of damage. I have killed these in close proximity to Q Hills guards and they have not interfered as they are prone to do with other kills. Logically the only way they could kill them would be if they have magic weapons or are casters. I personally haven't heard of the guards being equipped or skilled in this manner. Wisps are however great for gaining xp even at lvl 15. Also a great way to train combat skills as the fight is generally a protracted one. As for what to do with the loot. I destroy all burned out light stones. Lightstones can be traded to gypsy in North K but the item you receive is worth less than the lightstone itself. In short just sell the stone. Greater lightstones should be traded to the gypsy in North K (sorry cant remember name). She will give you the Concordance of Research which you can resell to her for around 8pp, about double what GLS sells for in stores. As the run to North K can be very dangerous (watch out for hill giants) you should gather a large number of GLS before you go so that you can limit the number of times you have to make this long and dangerous trip. Finally, for those people who have had a wisp run from them you have my undying respect. I have never gotten one to run. In my experience wisps are the most tenacious of fighters. Even when I attack a green at lvl 15 it stays and fights to the very end. Hope this is helpful.

As far as the running goes, I just started hunting wisps with my lvl 12 Barbarian Shaman. Sofar only the very first I attacked fought untill the bitter end, all the others tried to flee when their hp got low. I fought grouped with another lvl 12 Shaman and we had trouble dealing with 4 same time, about a 50/50 survive/die ratio since the one that sneaks up hits frigging hard. It can be risky but nevertheless very profitable bussiness to hunt wisps. Sofar all our hunting took place on erud's crossing. And beware, change view when u fight them since their mates seem to
appear out of the blue while you are trying to beat one to kingdom come and then real trouble is
very close, but then again....getting those PP for a couple of deaths and loss of xp doesnt make me shed tears about a couple of corpse runs
