He can spawn in multiple locations which makes a tracker helpful. I found him from the very bottom near the echo nortlav all the way up the ramp to the library (all three floors) and in Eruds Bane.. Basically anywhere you kill a construct is where he can spawn. Respawn rate was quick just keep killing in those areas

I agree,

He can spawn in multiple locations. And, as a tracker, he is only found in a small area as stated below.

I found him in the library, in Eruds Bane, and also in a close by hallway with stairs in between the two mentioned areas. Five spawns altogether, 2-3 hours total time in two days of exploring and having fun in old zones.

I have only seen a ruined construct as a placeholder. Ruined constructs occupy this area as mentioned. I have killed many other constructs in this zone in other areas and never found found the Ancient to spawn in any other area (or different PH).

Was working on Phylactery Will Get You Nowhere quest. Yep, an old quest but the reward has a choice of a placable item with unique graphic.

Spawned for me today in Erud's Bane, right inside at loc -35, 398, -345. Appeared to have a Ruined Construct PH, but I was just killing everything in that area and it popped. Dropped the Tome, Steel Bracer of Law, Sacred key, and Outcast's Journal page 37.

Ok I'll leave my two cents worth

Went down to get him only been to the hole a few times to do epic mobs at the bottom.

Took that long hall way that goes to the bottom killing stupid constructs all the way down. When I got to the first construct I was able to track "an ancient construct"

From reading the description on this post I thought he was near the bottom so I killed all the way down there two boxing a shaman - figured out that disease slow works but regular slow sucks against them.

I could have saved myself some time by tracking and seeing that he was near the area where you first run into rats. Loc was 68, 422 you would normally kill the ghost on the right in that room and keep going towards the bottom but he wanders that area and into the buildings so stop there clear the area for some room to kill him then get him.

Really an easy mob - slowed him with disease slow and had no troubles killing him at all. He didn't hit as hard as some other mobs I encountered.

I've been told all the broken contructs are the PH's, and clearing up and down the tunnel from the bottom of the hole will result in a spawn of the ancient. I cleared a round with a group of 6 ranging from lvl 55-65 but he didn't spawn. Maybe someone can confirm my stategy?

I can confirm that you indeed need to kill the broken and ruined to get the ancient to spawn. For me the ruined spawns seem most likely to get an ancient.

Where?

An Ancient Construct

We ventured into the new Hole and battled one of these. He also dropped "a sacred key" besides the nice helm. He was 100% MR except for diseased/poisoned based dots and dd's. A pure melee battle unless you have a shaman/nec/sk. We tried debuffing to no prevail, however we had no enchanter in the group so do not know if he was Tashable. He gave our group a bit of a challenge. After we engaged him, it was obvious he was not like the other Level 55 mobs that we had encountered. He had an aoe spell that was around 700hp's and got off 2 of them. He could not be snared or rooted. He did resist the stun effect of Paladin stuns but not the dd. At 10% health I was able to land my highest stun on him and stopped him in his tracks.
