After studying the methods, taking advice from different friends, and practicing a few pulls, my guildmates and I successfully defeated Sir Lucan Dlere. Here's what we did:

  • As a non-KOS 51 paladin, I walked into the milita house and targeted Lucan but stayed in the adjacent room to avoid playing with another door.

  • With SoW on, I opened the door to the main hall, then cast a stun spell (resisted but no matter) through the CLOSED door to his room, and ran like lightning.

  • I ran out the west gate and to the south wall as far as I could before zoning, with Lucan and about 5 guards in tow.

  • One non-KOS person continually hailed Lucan to keep him in place, despite his desire to chase a few rats.

  • Slowly, the other guards returned to their posts.

  • I zoned back in and we proceded to beat the pudding out of Lucan.

  • Somewhere between his 40% and 20% health, we made the call for everyone to zone, while a 52 ranger and me (51 paladin) finished the kill and took the faction hit.

  • Lucan slowly fled towards the gate, closer and closer to the guards, and with his high magic resistance, he could not be snared.

  • During this fleeing, I kept waiting for Brother Jentry to appear, but he apparently was out of range from our pull spot, or we got lucky; Jentry did not show to do any complete healing. Also no other guards were in range to assist him, despite his fleeing frighteningly close to the gate.

  • Finally, Sir Lucan went down, spawning the undead Lucan in the spot of his corpse. True to form, this undead Lucan went down in a hurry.

  • I wish to give a special thanks to my guildmates in The Ring of the Light (Firiona Vie server) for helping - Invinoveritas, Ivvy, Kbdar, Leedor, Ozborne, Telorea - thank you all! I also wish to thank Bakanome for his advice and his suggestion to pull Lucan to the south wall. I want to wish all you paladins good luck in your fight, and if you seek to battle Sir Lucan on Firiona Vie server, give me a yell.

I just want to add a few things to your list.

It does seem that the Brother Jentry does not follow Sir Lucan anymore. I used the same pulling tactic as you did (stunning behind closed door).

I did the battled Lucan with a druid friend and cleric and they both zoned when he was started fleeing. It seems that he is fleeing towards the gate but you should not worry, he walks passed the gate. Lucan goes the the left corner when standing with your back to Freeport. That is where I finally delivered the killing blow. I was worried myself about him running towards the gate but he actually didn't come near it, just went passed it.

I play on the Firiona Vie server where if a MOB cons green, you don't get magic or lore items for killing it. After reading several posts here about Lucan's undead version, many seem to say the skeleton is an easy kill. This leads me to believe the skeleton might not be as high as the live version of Lucan. I'd hate to go kill Live Lucan only to find out that Undead Lucan is green and I get no Testimony.

Can anyone verifiably inform us of the level of the Undead Lucan?

To follow up on my original post, a higher-level group of us killed him tonight. The Undead Lucan was dark blue to me at 51. I think that means he's at least 38 or 39. However, I have a feeling that he's probably a little higher than that.

I have the EQ n00b players book, and it tells you that white is your own, red is +3 or more, green is -6 or more, blue is -5 or less, and yellow is +1 or +2 to you. Just clearing up level posts, so he had to be 50, 49, 48, 47 or 46.

That changes the higher up in levels you go, I am 45 at the moment, and a 35 will be dark blue to me.

Anyway, grats Larney, the Oracles od the Storm took him down last night, it was fun. I am wearing my Freeport faction proudly now. Smiley: wink

60 pally and I (52 pally) took down Lucan last week, was a piece of cake. Crusader pulled the militia house one by one all the way to Lucan. Killed them all, then we pulled Lucan. He was no problem at all to us. Was a fun fight!

Good luck to all you pallies out there! 8)

Me and some guildies took on Lucan last night. It's important that once you pull him to EC noob zone line to have someone who is non KOS hail him repeatedly to keep him in that spot and have the puller zone right away. Then keep hailing him, all the guards will wander off to their respective places and leave you there with Lucan. Then have all your KOS friends zone in and woop his ***** We made the mistake of nt hailing him and had to deal with the lvl50 gate guards. We killed Lucan and had to deal with those guards. At sometime in the confusion another group came along and pulled the undead Lucan and basically KSd us. Our fault, we should have focused on him.

I'm a 44 paladin on the bristlebane Server. I've decided to start working on my Soulfire quest (I know, a little late). Anyway. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what group structure would be best and what method I should use to kill him. Help will be greatly appreciated.

BTW - Someone mentioned earlier that you can turn in your Soulfire on the plane of sky. Is this true and if so how do I do it when I reach 46?

Turning in your soulfire in the plain of sky, along with the ghoulbane, is part of your epic. After turning these in you get the fiery avenger. You then have to turn the avenger in with a couple other quest items to the plain of fear to get your epic weapon, the fiery defender

Ok, my guild killed Lucan (he seems to be popping fine on Bertoxxulous server) we pulled him out to the newb zone, one death from puller, went pretty well, but when he died, the UNDEAD VERSION DID NOT SPAWN! I'm not sure if this is a one time bug or if it's permanent since below posts seem to show more problems with Lucan, so be careful!
    Just a question....
    # May 31 2002 at 11:49 AM Rating: Default
This might be dumb, but would it be possible just before Sir Lucan is dead to root and DOT him, and then everyone zone out....That way he dies from DOT while noone is in zone and noone gets the faction hit....Then a new group (or just someone with sow) keeps skelli busy until the original group can zone back in and repeat the process? That way maybe noone gets the KOS faction hit.....Or was this just a dumb idea? hehe

Just got my hilt from mistmoore and the the guild group that helped me there is chomping at the bit to help with Lucan... He's not up. Get a trusted tracker to help look. Still not there. Harumpff!

Ok, there seems to be a rumor on my server that wild dog here has not spawned in several days. I have been watching for him and routinely had whatever Bard or Druid with track is available to try and get him on track.. Any ideas.. Does he still pop in the same room as Jentry.. Any help would be appreciated. I have found nothing yet to give me any idea what is happening.. Did they change the spawn time on him??

I heard about Spawntimes from 8h up 12h.

    Fixing FP Faction
    # May 21 2002 at 2:09 AM Rating: Default
The best way i've found to fix faction in East AND West Freeport is to hunt Gnolls and Orcs in Highhold Pass, and to Hunt Goblins in Highkeep. By turning in Orc Scalps, Gnoll Scalps, and Goblin Ears, you get faction with a whole bunch of the shadier groups in EQ, including the Freeport Militia and the Corrupt Queynos Guards.
It may take a while, but it's a good way to raise faction with several evil groups, and the Gobs, Orcs, and Gnolls are quite easy to dispatch if you're a high enough level to even consider doing this quest

    Killing this guy
    # May 05 2002 at 1:41 PM Rating: Default
Have killed him twice with this method. Used 2 level 51 Pali's (already kos in W. FP from helping others kill him) and a 51 Druid. First buffed up, then invised pali's. One pali go pull Lucan to zone and then zone when lucan is at the zone we had wolf form so had to wait for him (them) to catch up. We pulled to the North FP zone closest to bank(after we cleared the guards near zone a few light blues easy kills). Non-kos druid chain hails him to keep him at zone till pulling pali zones back and attacks, and both palis attack. Druid runs back towards spawn spot and finds Brother Jentry almost back to militia building. Druid Dots Brother and then brings him near the little pond area just around the corner from the militia ( the place where the vernder lady is at near a wagon [cart]), and roots him there. Reason; Brother Jentry wont heal Lucan if he is in an aggro situation such as that. Dot keeps Jentry mad at druid, Bro will nuke Druid constantly from root so stay in range suck it up and eat the damage. Its not that bad. Keep Jentry rooted away from other guards, there shouldnt be but if and adds train then to EC. Once Lucan is dead zone druid NOT where Palis are incase any training occurrs and go back, the palis may need help or heals to finishing undead Lucan. Pali's traded aggro and both used LoH's And were willing to die if needed ( it was not needed). Once undead Lucan is done. Loot skellie, zone to N. FP to med. I believe if we were any lower level and we would not have been successful without aditional help. But, we waited until level 51 to try this part because we worked on Exp. and leveling until we were high enough level to easily shoot through Ghoulsbane, and soulfire parts. Plus, since we were gonna be level 45-52 anyway until we got the books from Naggy and Vox we were in no rush. Remember Druid shouldnt hit Lucan or he gets the KoS faction hit (unless he has it or wants it that is). I would like to add if you have help use it, also many methods work. We were just messing around late one night and then it worked we did it again the next night. BTW killing lucan 2 times made me ally to marr and truth.

    spawn time & tips
    # Apr 20 2002 at 5:14 PM Rating: Default
his spawn time is once every 12 hours.
anyway .... im a lvl 29 pally got some friends and we killed him last night, we had about 10 people .. we did it like this:
the monk pulled him to the EC zone line, then all the kos people zoned to EC and me, along with the other non kos people, waited and hailed him until the guards went back to the gate. once they were there, the rest of the group zoned in and attakked. we had a chanter who kept Brother Jentry mezmerized so he couldnt heal Lucan. As im only lvl 29 i wasnt able to hit him that often but i was ready with LoH .. but we didnt need it .. we had enuff ppl he went down relatively quickly. the first time you kill him he wont leave a corpse ... he'll spawn into an undead form that's weaker than he is, and THAT corpse has the Testimony of Truth, which is given to Valeron Durshire in the Hall of Truth for the Brilliant Sword of Faith. If you dont want the faction hit, zone to EC before Lucan goes down.
Yes, the faction hit sucks, but we are paladins for god's sake! we are at war with the FP militia!

had one shot at this last night but friken jentry Cheald him when he was almost dead and then some other lowbie guard came out to cause trouble. the only crowd control we had was root and the cleric was oom so we had to run when he was back down to quarter life. by the time we zoned in and were ready again he had been healed again and most of us had to go.

This dude is cake... People think about it... all you need is a chanter and a necro both lvls mid 50s (low 50s wil possibly do) ... pull all to the zone and have the chanter AE mez the guards... then have the necro send pet and DOT Lucan... Anyone who wakes up outta there mez gets feared, and let the pet tank whil you heal... now when hes just about dead the necro needs to call the pet off both the chanter and the necro need to zone out... but befoir the necro zones out have him cast 1 DOT on Lucan and just start wacking away.. hit him once you get the xp and the hilt all and all you killed one dude your not KOS and no one else dropped there faction...

Also mem blur helps but hey

I was told that when you attack him all guards come in and attack you and you have to either run for the zone or kill thme all. Is any of this true? can you just kill him and brother jentry?
    RE: Sir Lucan
    # Apr 03 2002 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
All guards in the area will asist him.
The trick is to have someone pull him to the zone (use SoW) The guards will all train behind him. I like to run to the South wall and zone. have someone (who is NOT KOS) Hail him until the guards leave him alone. One guard (Brother) has a nasty habbit of comming to his aid (seemingly out of nowhere) and healing him during the battle.

He can be taken down with a group of 40ish adventurers. I recommend at least 2 tanks, a healer and some dotters/nukers or an additional damage dealer (monk/rogue)

Be warned that you WILL be KOS in WFP/EFP if you are in the zone when he falls. A skelly (of the same name but lesser lvl) will spawn in his place when he dies. It is EASILY soloed by a paladin. I cast Instrument of Nife on myself and took him down in no time at all. (Proccing is sweet)

Another trick is to have someone else train any additional guards away from you while in battle. They can easily take them to the far side of the zone with Sow and zone; thus giving you some extra time to finish your work without being stunned and beaten to a pulp by adds.

For a lvl 14 the stats (and look) would be awesome. but if your guild is willing to help you on that quest at 14, you probably already have something better than that for dmg/dly. Just put it in a safe spot until you are 46 and you can go turn it in on the PoSky

He has very high MR. My snares landed about 1 in 10 and I dont never got a root to land after about 30 tries. Just pulled him for fun today to see what I could do Harmony works great for getting him out of the building. snare Lucan, and leave the other guards unsnared - I didnt need anyone to spam hail him. When I zoned back in he was wandering very slowly around trying to catch newbie mobs.

Hella-high MR, our druid (54) wasted most of his mana trying to snare him. The mage (38) was not even able to land her nukes, but her DMG sheild worked and her pet was able to hit him pretty hard. The 53 and 58 mages were able to land their nukes however :)

    Ok lil more info.

I tried to kite him for a guildmate who is working on soulfire today. I can solo Lucan np, using SVF debuffer (ro's firey sundry) and fire DDs. Problem is that Brother Jentry keeps coming up and Chealing him, no matter where you pull sir Lucan to.

It seems to work like a CTA (call to arms), similar to what Tunare does in PoG. I didnt have a chance to time it, but my guess is every few minutes Jentry is 'called' to Lucan, and once in range he will heal him. However, on the way to Lucan Jentry will kill any noobie mobs he sees, so its not direct agro assist to Sir Lucan, but rather a change in home point.

I have some new ideas, will post the results.

Druid epic is useless on Lucan, resists every time. Roots dont work either, also resisted. Magic DDs do seem to hit rarely for full dmg though, I used my Lumi staff after oom (clickable 184 aoe, magic based).

    A few interesting theory.
I wonder if you could pull him in a similar fasion to the method used to pull Lucan "alone". It really would make it much easier to take him down.
