Raid Encounter

Spawns 6 waves of about 8-10 corpse and deathdealers. The Archmage despawns after about 10-15 minutes so all damage needs to be focused on the Archmage before he despawns. May only be available on the Al'Kabor server (need confirmation).

The Grimling Archmage Ring:

The ring consists of 8 waves of 7 to 10 mobs. A new wave spawns every 8 or 9 ticks or so. What spawns each wave appears to be random.

Possible spawns:
a grimling alchemist
a grimling battlepriest
a grimling cleanser
a grimling corpsemaster
a grimling deathdealer
a grimling possessor*
a grimling skullsplinterer

*Grimling possessors can cast Grimling Mesmerize and Grimling Possession.
-200 MR resist check. The mez mezzes a peep for 3 ticks, while the possession charms a peep for one minute.

Raid Strategy:

The raid assembles kitty corner from where the Warder pops. Nukers and healers deepest in the corner with melee and tanks on the outside. ALL PEEPS MUST SHRINK. (There is seriously very little room in there).

All PBAoE nukers load their AoE spells, any flavor, but the less knockback the better.

When the raid is gtg, tanks tag the two elite guards and peeps kill them. This should start the script by being too close to the archmage. Use single target nukes to burn them down. Don't start PBAoE yet.

Once the first wave pops, melee and tanks tag and drag to the corner. Nukers nuke and hell flies… This goes on for 8 waves which take about 8 minutes win or lose.(Most waves pop after 8 ticks but there was one extra long 18 tick wait between pops.)

Once the emote for the 8th wave is given, Archmage Gorraferg will spawn a tick later. The moment he pops, the MT tags him and all nuker AoE DPS stops and switches to single target nukes and totally burn him down. Melee to kill of their targets first before joining in with the nukers.

As far as we can tell, he's on a timer, so a massive, massive burn down on him or he'll despawn before we get to loot. (Guessing you have 10 to 15 minutes to kill him. He despawned on the first attempt while wasting time killing off all fodder first, then building aggro, debuffs in etc.)


To start the raid...

When you get too close to the grumbling archmage, the following will happen:

the grimling archmage shouts 'Master! The intruders have interrupted my sacred work! I beg, send minions to my aid!'

That emote starts the raid and a Grimling Warder will pop in the doorway and he will banish any peep that gets too close to the lava pit. (If you wipe or aren't ready to engage or just start it by accident, then you won't be able to restart the Archmage event until approximately 36 to 42 minutes have passed since wiping and/or mobs despawning.)

8 ticks after the first emote, wave one begins…

Wave One:
the grimling archmage says 'By the power of the master, I summon forth the his minions to cleanse the realm of intruders...'
He'll summon about 7 mobs about him. They appear to be random in what pops. About 8 ticks later, wave two will start…

Wave Two:
the grimling archmage says 'You tresspassers are still here? You will not interrupt my work! I will summon a legion of our kind if needed!'
More mobs pop, not sure on the numbers. About 8 ticks later wave three starts.

Wave Three:
the grimling archmage says 'Master! More of our people are needed to cleanse the sacred palace. I beg, make the intruders pay with their lives!'
More mobs pop, about 18 ticks later wave four starts.

Wave Four:
the grimling archmage says 'You fools! You do not understand! Your efforts here are fruitless. You will die and your remains will live again to serve us!'
More mobs pop, about 8 ticks later wave five starts.

Wave Five:
the grimling archmage says 'Master! The intruders persist! I beg, teach them humility through defeat!'
More mobs pop, about 9 ticks later wave six starts.

Wave Six:
the grimling archmage says 'Your petty resistance will only make it worse for you in the end. Leave, or die!!'
More mobs pop, about 8 ticks later wave seven starts.

Wave Seven:
the grimling archmage says 'Master, they are weakening! I beg, finish them!'
More mobs pop, about 9 ticks later wave eight starts.

Wave Eight:
the grimling archmage shouts 'Master, the intruders persist! I beg, give me the power to overcome them. May their flesh burn on your sacred altar!'
One tick post the above emote, Archmage Gorraferg will pop. (I am not sure if he pops with or without friends. Post him popping, new waves of grimlings no longer spawn.)

Archmage Gorraferg notes:

He has a lot of hit points.
He triples and enrages at 10%. (He almost always singles though.)
Max hit: 650
Min hit: 175
Low Attack Rating
He's slowable.
He casts Winds of the Archmage (http://lucy.alkabor.com/spell_2040.html)
It's a PBAoE with a range of 35, -200 MR to the check. It does 600 hp and drains 400 mana.

With a range of only 35, it'd be possible for casters to move to one of the adjacent corners to stay out of range. Just watch out for the Warder. He casts it every 6 to 10 ticks according to my log. It doesn't appear to be interruptible.

Opening the way further...

As far as we can tell, from the moment you kill him, we have about 4 hours and 40 minutes before he repops, thus 4 hours and 40 minutes to kill both the Summoner and the Foreman encounters.

In the future, due to the long repop time on the Archmage, we'll kill him first, then the Witchdoctor in the Summoner Ring and then the Foreman. It's believed that if we can get all four mobs dead before repps, that it'll open a locked door to deeper AC. I am also guessing the untargetable mobs along the path to it become targetable and we'll have to clear them along with two namers.

This mob is still active on the Al'Kabor server (EQMac). Server first kill the other day on 04/27/2012.
