Our guild tried him tonite, 22 peeps, wipe.

Since we did him many times before, we were wondering why. Then we checked a little closer what happened, and we believe that boy was stealth upgraded with the last patch.

He used his 800AE as much as 4 times in a row and hit for 1390. We all ran oom trying to keep everyone healthy. No can do. Much much harder than ever before. We have done him same number no deaths, so...
What levels....

It seems like u guys are putting together a ton of ppl to take this **** down. What would the average level of everyone have to be do u think in order for 3 full groups to take this guy down....keep in mind all are experienced raiders and not doing stupid stuff....

Woot! This mechanical menace was taken down by a 48 person raid led by Clan Ice Claw! Dropped the Melee duo (Shim choker, Spike Driver) and a 61-62 Parchment. Gratz Kauphon and Ram!

This was by far one of the more fun raids I've been on. Many agreed. Can't wait to take him down again so more clannies can head into the factory.

my guild took him down last night with 31 people took us about an hour i would say for everything maybe a little bit longer. drqagon at the end had a nasty unresistable ae nuke snare and stun going. dropped 3 of our 4 mt's before we got him slowed on the first try. after that he was really easy. was nice i got my first flag for any pop zones. now ill have to go check out the factory.

Chanters!
# Feb 21 2003 at 3:00 PM Rating: Decent
Went on a Xanamech raid, was the only chanter there (48, yea a bit low, but I helped a lot). Chanters have the job of mezzing the gnome and mem bluring him while everyone gets to the dragon. BE CAREFUL! We were near the dragon when I get the command to let him walk, by the time I started to remezz him after some mobs aggro, he despaswned, unlikely he got killed (less it was by Xanamech himself) because he just diasappeared so quickly from my target window, so I'm 99% sure he's on a timer.

Beware when mezzing, con him after every mem blur, if he's threatening, keep trying, the little guy hits hard! But with a secondary healer watching your hp and some buffs, I was able to handle him without tash and not too many resists, though he was high yellow to me.

My advice is to have a group or 2 clear ahead before the turn in so that you dont waste a lot of time, him despawning will disappoint a lot of ppl!

The gnome seems to die often due to Xene rage, and as he cant get memblurred, it's sometimes annoying when you can kill xene but dont get the flag... so here is something we just tried tonight:
Me, 61 shaman, after i maloed/slowed Mr xene, aggroed the gnome. I slowed him 4 times, then bring him into a corner, and rooted him. i healed myself during the fight, and when xene died... the gnome was still alive, so was i, and i lost aggr at the same time ))
good luck )
Time Limit?
# Jan 25 2003 at 2:02 PM Rating: Default
Ok I've tried this three times now. First time the gnome started backwards pathing and then depopped right when we were near the dragon, which people said was exactly an hour from when we had started. The second time the gnome started to backwards path and ending up getting killed. The third time we managed to get the gnome to the dragon but everyone was worried about this so called time limit and that we had 7 minutes left or something(stalled back cause of a little backwards pathing and gnome aggrod a whole group and people were afraid to memblur) so the raid leader, who I don't really think knew what he was doing basically just had us rush which basically wiped us easily cause no one was ready. Is there really a time limit on how long the gnome can be up for? I thought maybe it would be an hour but the timer would end when he actually tinkers the dragon.
RE: Time Limit?
# May 12 2003 at 9:58 AM Rating: Decent
The gnome will pop if you get in his way. If anyone blocks him for more than a couple of seconds, he will pop right to the dragon and die fast.

It's good to have the chanter watching the gnome to call when he's otm. That way, everyone can get to the sides of the path and he won't be blocked.

Not sure on any time limit. Our guild has spanked him quite a few times now, and never had him despawn on us... one thing to note though.

Memblur is safe when you are on the way to the dragon. We have a chanter and a group or two just in charge of the gnome, while the rest push forward killing whatever's around. Mez him, punch him to wake him up when you want to move, memblur.

However... once he triggers the dragon do NOT memblur or mez him. You will still get loot, etc, but you cannot get flagged for the PoI factory.

Hope any of that helps.

Killed him last night on emarr with a pick up raid with 72 people - yes i know way overkill but there was a lot of interest in getting flagged.

Anyway, i wasnt leading this so cant really describe how we moved to him. Basically we had a fairly complex strategy for keeping the path ahead of the gnome cleared by spacing out the groups in front of the gnome. However i am sure there are a lot of ways you can do it though. Mezzing and mem blurring the gnome was not a problem and we mezed him bf the last mob whilst everyone went in to set up.
For some reason the gnome aggroed someone in the raid, so i guess this should be anticipated. he was mezzed so not a problem in theend.

Few tips from what I learnt as a MA. Keep melees stationed equally in frnot and behind mob. When we started most of us were in front and he got pushed to the wall. By that stage, turning him was very difficult as we were all snared. On that point, i had not foreseen the snare problem with turning him, so make sure you have a dedicated debuffer on the MA and that he keeps first slot empty.

I died during the fight as i was trying to move to keep dragon positined and went out of healing range. So make sure MA clerics are told to keep up with him. One of the clerics reported that they found it easier to spam fast heals than CH's.

I was too busy concentrating on the fight so was not really looking at how often spells were cast. With defensive, i was getting hit for 700 or so. I seem to recall a few triples although not any quads.

We had a 62 malo sham so slowing him was not too difficult.

For next time, I would have asked that the CH clerics, a debuffer and a group heal pally group together with the MA. That way they can move with him and pally/druid can watch the clerics and group heal.

HP = around 150k
Slowable = yes
Cripplable = yes
Quads for 1100
he seems to use his 800 AE each 30 sec,and his stun each 45 sec. there is 4 or 3 waves of stun when he casts it.

We did it with 16 last night. I think 3 clerics, not sure how the other classes were stacked. Nothing special, just whoever was on at the time. Only 1 shaman and 1 chanter. Average level was 64.

Our guild killed him last night with a force of 36. He is a fun fight. His AoE's do indeed seem irresistable. Keeping the gnome safe is not too bad if your party can keep aggro on the MA, and have MA position the dragon so gnome is always behind him. Remember the MA will more than likely be snared from the dragon's AoE. He seems to use stun more toward the end of the fight, in our experience.

The gnome will attack anyone in wolf form, also, AoE's should not be used either for same reason (obviously). He can be rooted and mem-blurred without problems BEFORE he spawns the dragon. Do not do it after. We used this tactic and everyone recieved factory flag from him without incident.
Bugged?
# Jan 13 2003 at 6:46 AM Rating: Default
We killed him twice yesterday.

Level <60 characters tend to die VERY fast due to his AE's spells.

Both times Nitram Anizok didn't give flags after Xanamechs dead. No memblur was casted on him and nobody of the raid members where KOS to him.

The loot was good but that shouldn't be an excuse for a non working quest.

Did you hail the gnome dude after you killed the dragon? Simply killing the dragon doesn't get you flagged, each and every party member must hail the gnome after dragon is dead to get the flag. The gnome will stick around for 5-10 mins allowing those requiring rezzes to hail him as well. Hope this helps :)

Napst-- I mean Dragon baaaad!
# Jan 05 2003 at 7:35 PM Rating: Default
Tried this guy a couple days ago. 53 People in raid, average level 57 = total wipe, everyone dead. We got it down about 1/3 but the AE spells were just too much for us to deal with.

My suggestions:

1. 60 people with average level of 60 is about the minimum I would guess for this fight.

2. Don't bother bringing your resist gear, his AE attacks are completely unresistable, every single person in the raid was hit for full damage every time.

3. Had no problem spawning him, just clear the path about halfway up, hand in the items, and mez/memblur the little guy every time you have to clear some mobs. He never warped or tried to walk back to his hut.

4. Have your clerics and paladins use their group heals, by the time they get one CH off for the tank, the rest of the group will most likely be dead.
RE: Napst-- I mean Dragon baaaad!
# Jan 06 2003 at 10:51 AM Rating: Good
Or instead of 60 people at lvl 60 you get 35-40 people at avg lvl 60 who know what they are doing? I hate Zerg mentality.

Did him last night with 42 people, raid avg lvl 61, and my guild is NToV level. We lost one person during the whole fight. I would consider the dragon on par with an average NToV fight like Aaryonar or Kreizen.

For some real tips:

1. DO NOT USE CH. His AE is also a stun, and using 10 second heals is like unzipping your fly. Spam heal with high lvl remedies and natures touch, etc. Get spell haste and focus items to help make sure you are not as vulnerable.

2. Group heals, keep your groups above 50% health so that low hp doesn't ***** up aggro management.

3. Keep the dragon facing away from the gnome. You cannot use mez/charm on the gnome during the fight or it will break the quest and you will not get flags, so you have to look out for his well being. If the dragon enrages and is facing the gnome, the gnome will suicide on ripostes.

You aren't gonna have much luck pulling this bad boy anywhere. We try to keep him facing away from the gnome to avoid the lil guy taking any rampage damage and the gnome SUMMONS the dragon!

This was our 5th time and something's always been buggy about the quest. Finally we got the 33 people in the raid flagged today. I think you have to be in the raid and only 72 people max can get flagged so once you've recieved your flag don't hail the gnome a second time.

He melee'd for around 1300 dmg. I didnt catch if it was a quad or not, our MA kept aggro pretty well.

He was slowable, slow landed on first try after malo. Belly nukes worked. Fire landed for full dmg after Ro's debuff.

He used the following -

Oil slick effect - AE snare on everyone
Steam effect - AE 800 dmg
Electric effect - AE 300 dmg and stun.

He sets these off regularly. I think the manabolt was a proc on his melee, was not apparently AE.

Dropped the Cord Hilted Spike Driver and the Woven Shim Choker.

There was a problem with Nitram flagging people after the fight. Someone aggro'd Nitram and he had to be mem blurred. This apparently erased his memory about the flags as well. A GM was summoned, and we are dealing with him as I write this. We'll probably get screwed out of the flags to open the factory door, but at least we got some nice loot.

Getting the gnome to the dragon is a pain in the ***** you have to know the path and clear ahead of him ideally. Root Nitram outside the dragon lair if you want to rebuff before the fight, but again be warned about memblurring - I dont know if it screws things up at that point before the dragon fight, but anything that interferes with Nitram's course or screws with him should be done with care.

done this today at 5th attempt always killed the dragon not one wipe he is very easy just gotta get him slowed asap have anyone who can slow cast it until it lands, quest has loads of bugs on it the first 4 times we killed the dragon but nver got flag had a few times where the gnome decided he did not want to play and would warp back to his spawn so don't be surprised if when u kill him nothing happens( also when the dragon on low health spin him around so the little gnome don't die from enrage as u must keep him alive

Xanamech finally went down to us last night. 3rd time, first 2 attempts were wipes. We had 42 people in the raid, average level 60.

There were several key things required to get this done.

1) Keep the gnome on track to get him to the garage. Sometimes you have to root him and mem blur to get him to stop attacking every single wandering robot in the zone. Stay out of his path, or sometimes the diversions he takes to go around obstacles are roundabout and undesirable.

2) Kill the adds in the garage before awakening the dragon. Then awaken Xanamech before the adds repop, which happened in about 10 minutes I would estimate.

3) Keep the MA alive. Sounds obvious, but since Xanamech has AoE stun, you may just find yourself with nobody capable of casting CH on your MA before he dies. I recommend stationing a Paladin directly behind MA to LoH 3 seconds after the battle starts.

4) Slow him. A 62 shaman was able to land slow in about 10 seconds. Your mileage may vary, good luck, because success/failure depends on this.

5) Keep the gnome alive. The gnome is pretty tough... he can take lots of shots from the dragon, but if you don't take precautions, he will die, and you will end up flagless. Our strategy was to keep the dragon pointed away from him, to stop the gnome from riposting himself to death. Another strategy is to sacrifice a druid, who keeps him rooted during the entire battle. Druid will have to die from the aggro, because you CAN NOT MEM BLUR GNOME DURING DRAGON FIGHT OR YOU WILL NOT GET FLAGGED, but a quick rez can fix this.

6) Bring several epic clerics. You will have 12 minutes after the battle to get everyone rezzed so that they can get their flags. Might be tough to do without manaless rezzing.

Good luck. He dropped the Cord Hilted Spike Driver and the Woven Shim Shoker for us. Good loot day for warriors and other melee, bad loot day for casters.

While I have nothing at all against fanfic, it really oughta be labeled as such. People keep confusing it for the official history of Norrath.

Trakanon has never been to Ak`Anon. His skeleton is not there; if you see Trakanon, you can see some of his bones through his decayed flesh, so you KNOW his skeleton is still inside him.

What I know of clockwork dragons is confined to Big Bynn. Some gnome outside of Ak`Anon's entrance sometimes (member of the TBI or TIA not sure...) will tell about him some. There's a guildmate of mine who knows more about him, as he has investigated this clockwork dragon for years.
RE: Bah, fanfic.
# Dec 09 2002 at 6:30 PM Rating: Default
Has anyone ever noticed that Trakanon has "akanon" in it, which could also be Ak'Anon with the right punctuation?

I just saw that, and I must admit that it is rather odd. I doubt that it'd be a coincidence as well.

I've no proof beyond that correspondence, but I think that theres a chance that big dragon skeleton would be Trakanon himself, just because of the name similarity. And as for the ability to see his bones thru his skin, that could just be a design flaw. Or maybe he grew new bones ^_-.

Anyways, its not like it truly matters much, but I still have to say that it is interesting.
