We need an item window pic of this that is more current.

Quest is reported functional on modern progression servers, which is to be expected really.

A pic of someone wielding this item would be a nice addition.

First of all, this is a DECENT weapon for something that you can easily get at lvl 10. All you twinks out there keep your traps shut. For a newbie, who should be spending almost all of his plat on SPELLS (or if youre a WAR/ROG i guess not) this is definitely something to look into. The DWT is also decent, simply because of the resists (and if you can get it once for the mace, you should have no problem getting another)

Secondly, YES YOU CAN get skill-ups (with the exception of Offense & Defense) fighting green mobs. A lvl 50 ranger waiting for a rez (mine, of course) spent LOTS of time running into CB and using leggies as punching bags... Got H2H skill up half way decent :)

You cannot get this easily at level 10. Emperor Crush always spawns at around level 20 and you need to kill him to get the dwarven tunic and he is never alone in his tower. There are royal guards, an oracle, and sometimes D'Vinn, but before you get to the tower you have to get through the throne room full of legionaires, emissaries, oracles and sometimes Lord Darish. You also need to kill the warlord to get his Bracer of Battle, and he is level 14. The only way you get this easily at level 10 is if someone else sweeps through the zone killing everything for you and lets you loot the stuff you need.

Also, if you can equip them, the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic and the Prayer Cloth of Tunare are worth a lot more than the Screaming Mace so you're an idiot if you turn those in. Even the Bracers of Battle are more useful to those who can use them because they are not lore, so you can have 2 of them, which is +6 AC, +2 STR, and +6 DEX if you have 2 of them. I'd rather walk around with those on than have the Screaming Mace in my hand. So let's assess the situation. For turning all those in, you get an 8/35 1HB that procs the equivalent of a Yaulp with magic tag, or you can keep all the turn in items (assuming you only keep 1 BoB instead of getting a second one) and get 16 AC, +1 STR, +3 DEX, +3 WIS, and +8 Fire, Cold, and Magic, and that doesn't even include the Shiny Brass Shield stats, but you can bypass that part of the quest so I did not include it in my evaluation but technically it IS a part of the quest so you can add another 10 AC, +10 vs Magic, and it also has a magic tag so you can bash magic only mobs with it and is a light source. All in all, the Screaming Mace quest is a rip off considering what you get vs what you have to give up to get it.

Well, as I detailed below, it really isn't.

If you want to do this quest for nostalgia or roleplay reasons, by all means do so. But DON'T convince yourself that this is anything other than an outdated weapon. Just browsing the bazaar this morning, I saw about 20 1hb for sale, for 20pp or less, that are better than this. Since the dwarven ringmail tunic, that is consumed by the quest, sells to merchants for 16pp, you'd be better off selling the tunic, and buying a better weapon.

The proc on this looks neat when it goes off, but is relatively worthless, considering the poor ratio of the weapon. I'd rather have a weapon with a 2.5-3.0 ratio, and 10 less strength, than a 4.375 ratio, and a str buff that sometimes goes off.

There is a Mace of the Shadowed Soul in bazaar on my server, for 10pp its 19dmg, 29 dly, +10int, SK only. For the rest of the classes, things like Wraith bone hammer (8/26, +2wis, int, +5 str) for 20pp, several of those for sale.

+1 this. This quest wasn't even good in 1999 because the collective stats on the items that you have to give up to get it vastly outweigh the stats on the Screaming Mace and would have been a lot more useful. The turn in items would also have been a lot harder to get because Crushbone would have been swarmed with players in the early years of EQ so getting into a group and then winning a roll to get the drops would have been a lot harder. If you won a roll for a DRT, you sure as hell were not going to burn it to get the Screaming Mace. You were going to wear it or sell it.

I used one from about 15-30, at which point I moved on to a Smouldering Brand. They were decent, the proc is somewhat like Yaulp.

35 delay is the opposite of fast.

This is only a "great weapon to use" if you currently weild your newbie club, or a cracked staff. Otherwise, don't bother, and certainly don't buy this for more than 10pp. As i have said several times below, It is a slow, heavy weapon, with a weak proc. By the time you get to lvl 10, you should have made enough plat selling cracked staffs to merchants, and cb belts/pads to other players, to buy something decent.

If you can't afford the Wraith bone hammer, buy a sarnak enforcer, it is 7/28, which is better than this, weight 2.0 and costs about 25pp. Only downside is same graphic as newbie club.

yes, but you are forgetting there are people who buy cb belts and pads, hence not having money for better :p

I never understood people paying money for belts and pads when they are easy enough to get. Fast leveling isn't worth paying money for because your skills don't keep up. You end up having to travel to higher level zones to get XP but end up dying a lot more because you can't hit the broad side of a barn with your feeble weapon skills or cast a spell because you keep fizzling. So instead of saving your money for better gear, you give your money to someone else so they can get better gear. How stupid is that? It's a moot point now, because power leveling using quest XP no longer works since they nerfed all quest XP a while back. Quests are only good for the rewards and whatever faction hits you get from them now. Also to advance to the next stage of a multi-stage quest. Brad McQuaid and his pals at Verant must have been laughing their asses off watching people fall into all the little traps they built into this game that hold you back more than they help you to advance.

I agree. many new players get sucked in by the CB belt/pad quests, and blow the money they should be spending on gear, buying more, on top of what they loot on their own. They'd level faster, AND have better weapons skills, if they SOLD the CB belts/Pads and BOUGHT a better weapon.

I know it SEEMS like they are levelling fast, when they turn in belts, and get a level or two without any killing, but the lower weapon skills, combined with poor quality gear, mean they will do much less damage, and need more healing, thge next time they fight. Therefore, the mobs die slower, their group has more downtime, and they LOSE the advantage in time that they gained turning in the belts. Nothing sadder than watching a level 18 with 10 offense and 6 defense skill try to tank, in below par gear.

Also, part of my original point is : The dwarven ringmail tunic sells to merchants for 16pp. The prayer shawl STILL will sell to another player for maybe 10-30pp. The other pieces for the quest also can be sold to a merchant. This should net you 50pp easily. More than enough to buy a much better weapon.

My original statement is that much MORE true today, as many of the weapons I listed there are down to 5-20pp in bazaar, at least on my server.

all that stuff is onky true if you are a twink. If you are leveling at a normal rate and getting your own gear it is a good weapon.

I disagree, as I said, you can buy better for 20pp or less. Merchants pay about 16pp for DRT, and you can sell the prayer shawl to a druid for about 30pp.

This mace is TOO HEAVY, and has a crappy ratio. 10 str does not make up for that.

For under 50pp, depending on class/race , you can get:

Sarnak enforcer
Blackjack
Wraith bone hammer
Stone thunder
Enamelled black mace
Spiny warhammer (maybe 10pp tops)

And that doesn't even consider the fact that the newby armor/weapon quests result in better weapon, for equally easy quests, for example:

Stormhealers Mace Dmg 9, Dly 33. +4.50 Wt
Blessed Brellium Warhammer Dmg 9, Dly 34. +0.80 Wt

And of course, if you can save up 100-200pp for a weapon, the Centi warhammer is very nice, as is the cane of the tranquil (CoT).

Since quality pelts seem to sell for 5pp and up, and spider silks for 2pp and up in the bazaar these days, it would almost take a concerted effort NOT to get a better weapon by level 10.

Don't get me wrong here, the screaming mace WAS a nice newby weapon, back in its day (my cleric used one for a while, back in June of 2001), but its day has passed, and it is a weak weapon by today's standards.

I recived this weapon at about level 18. I payed 80pp (which is about as much as it can go for under any circumstances, realistically DONT pay that much). The weapon is a really good one handed blunt, if you are level 10+, it will Yallup for you. Adding strength. The cool thing here is its instant, you dont get hit casting, and interrupted. I however am a clerc and more and more I hear a cleric should not Melee. RIGHT after I got this I traded a Ry'Gor tunic for a Bone wrath hammer and a Charred guardian shield. (awesome deal if I do say so).

This weapon IS good, and actually its a lot of fun also. I would not recomend using it past late teens or mid 20's. There are much better weapons out there. I did not believe people, but its true. Personally half the fun in having this weapon is the novelty of it. IT DOES have other benifits, as pathetic as it is at 18-19 It was my first MAGIC weapon - I could FINALLY Melee Ghouls, Willo-wisp and the like. Also I always had a light stone, but I have read and head a lot it DOES act as a greater light stone - GLS. Again for me this weapon was simply MAGICAL and a NOVELTY. Its decent, but much better is out there.

If you have cash to buy one, or someone will help you, Get a black enamal etched mace. (i think like 8/22 (duel weild that sometime)) About 120pp on my server. But also a GREAT weapon.

Did you not ever use your lvl 9 Hammer of Wrath spell?

You always had a MAGIC hammer and a greater light source when you got your first summon hammer spell at lvl 9.

i think the best weapon to work up 1hb is with the Kerran fishing pole, because it has a very very low dly (3/18). ive been considering getting this, cuz i havent even touched my blunt skills (the weapons i mean...im much more talented in the other kind... =). all you have to do to get this is kill a lv 15 fishy in Kerra Isle. his spawn is kinda rare though

I wielded this weapon for nearly 18 levels with my first druid and absolutely loved it. It is a nice weapon for starting out, but you will need to have someone do the quest for you as by the time you can do the quest the weapon is outdated for you.

I'm a 20th warrior and I used this is my primary hand and a Polished Granite Tomahawk in my offhand...when both procs go off, it's about a +35 increase in strength, and a minor increase in attack...very cool when both procs at the same time!

Keep it for about 10 minutes, to try it out once. Then hope you can find someone to buy it from you. Once you have unloaded it, buy something that doesn't weigh a ton, and has a better ratio.

This is worth maybe 10pp, not 50. If you have 50pp, you are halfway to a wraith bone hammer, which is way better.
