lvl limit?
# Sep 10 2003 at 10:22 PM Rating: Default
Hi all...

I realize that the item is worn for the effect... but is there a certain lvl before the item will work? Or could quite literally a lvl 1 use it?

Thanks!

SAS vs. SBoC

Which would you wear: SBoC or SAS? Is the difference of 5% haste worth losing 10 AC? A curious 53 Ranger wants to know!

I would wear a Shadowy Assassin Sash without any hesitation. 5% haste is most certainly worth losing 10ac.

I agree with him, 10 ac ant' that much and a buff or 2 will make of for that

There are a LOT of Dark Assassins in Umbral. I've come to believe that not all of them are capable of being the PH for this guy. Roughly speaking, I believe there to be 3 "groups" of DAs in zone.

One group paths more or less to the edges of the zone ... one such DA comes almost up to the ZI, another very close to the Druid Corner ... a third goes almost up to the Netherbian Swarmlord cave. I have never seen the SA in that position.

A second group paths about the middle of the zone, occassionally stopping to take a position in a loose ring around the Dark Master platform. I have never seen the SA in that position.

The third group shuffles about the center, open area of the zone. These look a lot like the second group, but wander a bit further out and never get in formation. This is the only place I have ever seen the SA spawn.

If anyone wants to sit around out there and watch these guys, I'd be curious to see if this does hold true.

I pulled one from very close to the ME zone in (wanderer that comes in close to the ent tunnel), so I'd have to guess it's a random spawn in any of the DA spots
RE: Shadowy Assassin
# Jan 20 2003 at 6:12 AM Rating: Decent
Had this guy spawn when group was waitin for mini raid peeps to get there and I was out pullin. He spawned outta thin air just to the left of tunnel going into the plains and was headin strait out after spawning. He dropped the cape for us. Spawn point was kinda out in front of the rock area on left side. Hope this helps. I think hes a random spawn myself though.

I happen to agree. Its kinda nice sometimes to have pickpocket set with your evade keys and grab plat or a BD/ruby crown etc off An Iksar Trustee Minimum Level: 57 Maximum Level:57 or simular level mob. Kinda blows the 5 levels lower out of the water.

Haste argument
# May 28 2002 at 2:42 AM Rating: Excellent
I assure you that I take no credit for this post whatsoever but it made alot of sense to me and can be found on Sash of dragonborn discussion. I cut and pasted it here.. Hope it helps:

You all are confusing haste and delay reduction. Think about it.

The defintion of haste is "the number of extra swings in during some period of time". 20% haste means I am going to get 120 swings instead of 100 swings during some period of time.

Now, in order to get those extra 20 swings in, my weapon obviously has to be swinging faster. The effective delay on my weapon must decrease. By how much?

Lets say I have a 10 delay weapon. That is 1 swing every second. So, during 100 secs, I swing 100 times. For the sake of clarity, assume I have 100% haste. So, during that same 100 seconds, I am now swinging 200 times. What delay would I need on my weapon in order to do this?

200 swings * X delay = 100 secs
X delay = 100/200 = 0.5

My effective delay is now 5, instead of 10. My effective delay reduction is 50%. 10 * 50% = 5

More precisely, Delay Reduction = 1.0-1.0/(1+Haste)

Take an FBSS. It is 21% haste. So...

Delay Reduction = 1-1/(1+0.21)
= 1-1/1.21
= 1-0.82644
= 0.17356
= 17.356%

So, for FBSS, 21% Haste = 17% delay reduction.

You also need to be careful when adding hastes. Hastes are additive. Delay reductions ARE NOT. If I want to find the effective delay on a 30% Bard speed and 21% FBSS, I need to add the two hastes and apply the same forumla.

Delay Reduction = 1-1/(1+0.21+0.30)
= 1-1/1.51
= 1-0.66225
= 0.33775
= 33.775%

So, FBSS + Verses of Victory = 51% haste or 34% delay reduction.

This item has 26% haste according to Magelo. For the record, Magelo gets their item data (including haste %) directly from the game without human intervention. It is always right. If you ever want to know for sure what an item's haste percentage is, talk to Magelo.
haste tests
# Feb 22 2002 at 3:55 AM Rating: Decent
I ran some haste tests on this belt as a level 60 bard, equipping a shield in the offhand and a 24 delay weapon in primary.

With no haste, I made 35 attacks in 1:24, for a total of 2.4 seconds per attack (.417 attacks per second).

With a Silvery Belt of Contention (said to be the same haste as an FBSS), I made 41 attacks in 1:22, for a total of 2 seconds per attack (.5 attacks per second).

With a Sash of the Dragonborn, I made 38 attacks in 1:12, for a total of 1.89 seconds per attack (.528 attacks per second).

With the Shadowy Assassin Sash, I made 38 attacks in 1:12, for a total of 1.89 seconds per attack (.528 attacks per second).

So, basically, this belt is the same haste as the Sash of the Dragonborn.

RE: Pickpocketing
# Apr 22 2002 at 10:48 PM Rating: Decent
It WAS that way before the revisions to pickpocket about a year or so back...

Now I believe the rules are level 45 max until you are level 51, and at that point you can pickpocket anything that's at least 5 levels below you...

I could be a bit off, but it's something along those lines...
RE: Pickpocketing
# Mar 27 2002 at 10:23 AM Rating: Decent

Level 51 - 46
Level 52 - 47
Level 53 - 48
Level 54 - 49
Level 55 - 50
Level 56 - 51

Nope, that's still under the rule. Until 51 the max level you can pickpocket up to is 45. Period. Your chances might be a little low (understatement hehe) for some of those REALLY reds, but you *could* have a 1 in 10000000 chance of pickpocketing something off a lvl 45 while your lvl 6 or 7... dun remember what level we get that at... it's been soooooo very long. (3+ years...)

Look at the pic, no Monks or Beastlords.

Ah well, guess you guys gotta stick to your FBSS and SCHW or whatever 'old-skool' haste items you used to use.
RE: Monks, stop drooling.
# Feb 21 2002 at 10:39 AM Rating: Decent
well playing a beastlord but not a monk i can understand the purpose of this item..yes there are several items out there that have hast..personally i would rather use the silver chitin handwraps from velks..major hast item and at least has some ac..this is to save some of those haste items for people that do not have one which by time coming to this place should ahve one anyways..my guess is that this item has a better haste ratio than fbss due to the level to get it
RE: Monks, stop drooling.
# Feb 25 2002 at 7:48 AM Rating: Decent
Silver Chitin Handwraps are all well and good, but if you are a Monk and are planning on finishing the Celestial Fists epic and you are using Silver Chitin for your item haste, bear in mind that you will have to replace the item haste you previously had on the Handwraps once you get your hand-slot epic. (CF haste is like 40%, from the right click effect, sort of pulses like a bard song, and stacks with one item haste and one spell haste).

Not that it would be any trouble to sell the SCHW and get an FBSS or whatnot, but hey.

Well obviously if you're swinging more often, you'll probably be missing as well. It's fairly proportional. :)

From the list of classes that can use this piece it's obviously being considered "chain" armor. The name sure doesn't imply this though. From a pure role-playing point of view, something with a name like "Shadowy Assasin Sash" wouldn't be usable by Paladins at the least. Oh well, VI naming once again makes no sense.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 20 2002 at 10:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Plain and simple. Morons. Nice of them to put (worn) next to everything and even cast time on clickable items. For this it doesn't matter quite as much since it's droppable, but what about all the no drop haste items? How do I know if an item is an upgrade for me if the haste is 2% before I loot it???

on a quick parse our Bard figured it to be around 25% increase in swings.
RE: Haste%

That was a pretty good test. Only off by 1% actually. I don't know how he tested that so well, double swings mess up a lot of haste tests, or so I've heard of. Makes sense, I have noticed myself that it is hard to find the 'beat' of swings with double attack.
