Beastlords can't tank?
# Jan 15 2004 at 5:12 AM Rating: Default
Well I'm a 55 beastlord and my brother plays a 59 paladin and it's funny watching how much DPS I kick out and how pissed he gets when I'm stealing aggro from him and the cleric has to heal me instead of him. Don't be to hasty to judge a class just because you're not playing it right.

What? SOrry but any idiot who steals aggro from the MT is a N00B!!!

"Don't be to hasty to judge a class just because you're not playing it right."

That's really funny cuz it sounds like YOU are not playing the class right. A good BL will be able to dish out plenty o' dps AND not steal aggro. Why the heck would you want to steal that anyway? Let the mob beat on someone else while I send in pet, slow, incapacitate, dot, dot, dps, dead...

I play a 53rd level warrior, and I will be the first to admit that BLs are great at dishing out damage. However, you shouldn't be proud of the fact that you are stealing agro from the MT when in a group... I'm sure that the cleric would appreciate it much more if he/she only had to heal one target rather than keep 2 alive that are both fighting for agro. The best BLs I've seen can really wreck a mob with damage while still allowing me to keep all the agro. Groups flow much smoother that way.

I think all this noise about the uninformed saying that beastlords can't tank is that it takes skill to play a beastlord. We are not a warrior to just stand and hack. We are not a mage/necro to sit and nuke/heal. It is a different set of skills and if you try to play a beastlord like your old world characters you're doomed to failure.

Figure it out and you'll find beastlords a powerful class. Last night in ME I took out two dk blue mobs and a lt blue add all at the same time. Loot corpses and ready for next herd of sheep.

we can't tank well at all. A beastlord is like a bard without armour lol. you must be an ogre or something if you can tank

I have a lvl 54 beastie on Quelliuos (heading to 55 so I can use my new Waning Light Katar) and I sit around 4000 HP when raid buffed. Can't tank? With no AA's I can take down yellows solo at this level. Not many classes can claim that. I think, as a matter of fact, that we are highly underated as a tank. with the new weapons out there we will be putting out some serious DPS alongside our pet.

Cant tank, boy, I have been SA on IXblat, but because of my DPS I ended up tanking Ixblat down. Selfbuffed I have 2500hp 1050 ac and 1100 atk. Stop spreading that nonsense that Beaslords cant tank. BTW I am a VS beast.

Cant take, umm ur not playing at beastlord to the fullest. With our epic, we can do some serious dmg, and speaking that we also have nice hps. Hehe, we'ere not warriors but we aint too shabby either.

You're also not Shadowknights or Paladins either. I think he meant you're not a viable option for most tanking situations. I know I'd rather have a BL doing damage than tanking... yes, you do less damage from the front.
Beware the tanking Beastlord
# Oct 15 2002 at 1:53 AM Rating: Decent
Just to let you all know, we can tank and are relatively good at it. I tank in VL and have found I can actually take less damage than the tanks around me trying to do same job. With the right gear beastlords are a really great class, and to those who say they let their pet tank and all they do is heal, all I have to say is delete your beast and go make a necro, we are a melee class.
Pet Heal n stuff
# Feb 21 2002 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
I was refering to the pet heals. As a pet class no others are able to maintain the pet better then the Beastlord. (read before you post) :)
Don't get me wrong about the Beastlord. I love the class. Far less boring then the Necro for soloing. You can actually do a little tanking. The point of my post was to say that in the high end game (50+) it will be very difficult to get a group with this class. There fore it will also be hard to gain the higher end gear that is only obtainable in the uber zones. So far I have been able to get my BL to 43 extreamly fast for no PL. At the moment I have been able to solo almost all the mobs in Dreadlands with the exception of Ravishings, and the high end spiders. Widows, recluses, and Ragers go down with little trouble. So as a soloist outdoors, this class rocks.

Ok, I didn't start this game until just before Kunark, and this is the first opportunity to excel in a class that there are not to many of. It seems that Varant dosn't want this class to be sought after in groups, and as for the solo aspect. There is no snare, fear, root, or any other mob control other then the pet. On top of that no double attack, and the pet is not as tough as a Necro's. They say it's a monk/shammy, but I will say that with no double attack the damage output of the class is WEAK! On the positive. The pet heals are the best in the game bar none. 585 for 125 mana at 39. No other class can maintain the pet as well. The haste at that level (I don't know the %) seems to be at least as potent as that of a shammy or chanter.
But once again. I have not been able to get my AC above 700 unbuffed at 43. That is a Huge minus. The dots suck, and even with huge wisdom 45+ mobs will eat the pet alive and then of course we can guess what happens next. (loading please wait!)

I have no clue what class you are talking about Macalister but you sure are not talking about a beastlord. Not to get off on a rant here but at 41 my beastlord was more powerful than my ranger was at 51. What I mean by "more powerful" is that I could kill about 3 mobs with my beastlord on full health and mana before having to med as opposed to my ranger where I'd barely squeek by after one kill of the same kind of monster. And I've also seen groups fall apart and disband almost immediately after I have had to log off my beastlord. And just about when I thought they were too powerful and would get nerfed, Verant thought they were too weak and almost doubled the ammount of damage that their procs do. Not to mention that I've been able to get my beastlord to his current level in almost less than a third of the time that it took my ranger to get to. And as far as your (loading please wait.) comment, I have died maybe twice in the last 10 or so levels and never felt it was worth wasting my time and money to look for a rez cause I knew he could make up that exp very fast. My only regret is that I didn't make my kitty beastlord a troll just to be original and to see their high level aligator pet. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Agreed, Bst fly through lvs faster then any class I have played and I am a Iksar. Beast like monks was meant to say haha why you can't hit me, not that the hardest you can hit for like true tanks. Raise your stats right and equip right and you well be pleased with how well you handle dmg. And I forgive you for saying we suck, but my warder still has hard fellings =P. But, bst can't tank is wrong cause we find our self more and more in melee combat at higher lvs solo or at least as i go up in lvs i have to melee more and more.

If you think beastlords are weak or worthless you are very mistaken. Yes, at lower levels pet is kinda worthless but when you get to 39 they get much better. For a few examples: on the avereage mob before level 39 I would do about 80-85% of damage, at 39 pet can triple hit for 39's and with pet haste buff they are quick and actually outdamage me,so from levels 39 to like 44 they help a lot on blue cons not sure how good they will be at around 45-49 though havent got there yet. Nother example of beastlord power at lvl 39 is in PvP, I have a monk friend with an IFS 38/40 and he beat me pretty easy before level 39 but when I hit 39 was a joke he had no chance with pet beating on him and myself he goes down fast and thats not even using Blind one of best PvP spells heh. Beastlords are NOT worthless although I have not found all their strengths yet pet holds aggro pretty well and with bargain shopping you can also hold your own in fights and always step back and heal yourself or pet if needed. So to sum this class up I got a few quotes for ya:
"Dont knock it tell you tried it"
"Once you go Beast you may never go back"

Beastlord Armor has low ac for one reason. They are not meant to be a primary tank in any fashion. They seem to be geared toward a secondary tank role such as a rogue and monk, dealing damage and trying their best to avoid it. Of course they don't get fear or snare, shammys don't and all shammys wish we did ;). Do not forget its a NEW class, it has more bugs then the older classes and will eventually be for the most part fixed. At the present, they underpowered Beastlords so they didn't become uber, and destroy any class balance thats pretty iffy as-is.

As for the item, decent for a secondary tank.

Don't expect the beastlord to do a warrior's work, and use some different tactics and you might find something to work.

Rogues get much better armor than this. Monks also get better armor than this, plus they get their innate AC bonus for being light and maneuverable. For now, I think that Beastlord armor is generally unbalanced: you get low AC and low weight armor, but you don't get any bonus AC for keeping encumberance down, so you basically pay a penalty and don't get the bonus.

Sometimes, I think it's almost better to just treat a Beastlord as a Magician that can melee instead of nuke and heal/buff his pet more effectively. :)

I believe he was referring to the Pet Only heal that beastlords get; a BST is able to heal his pet much better than he is able to heal himself. At 30 a beastlord can heal his pet for 100 damage, yet can only heal himself (or others) for I think 29....
RE: WAAAAA!
# Feb 21 2002 at 3:35 AM Rating: Decent
who said at 30 pet heal is 100? it is 300, know the class before you attempt to knock it, and bl do have a full heal for their pet.........
RE: WAAAAA!
# Mar 23 2002 at 3:01 AM Rating: Decent
By the way, dont forget that the beastlord can use his pet buff to complete heal the pet for a pathetically low 150 mana ). I never use the heal spells on the pet, just complete heal em )
Why do all these high-level beastlord items have such LOW ac

Stats are nice and all... but this cap has the exact same armor class as a Lumberjack's Cap. That's just sad. I guess they want beastlords to have horribly low armor class, since between level 30 and level 55+ the armor class on their armor never ever seems to go up.
Sad thing is...

Sad thing is, that is about the best head armor a beastlord can get without going to the Temple of Veeshan.
