HP what?

A Shaman if outfitted for it can "TANK". Now of course our typical end game hit points top out around 5-6K fully buffed. But before the flames start to much..... This item is an ideal addition to a class that has the *BEST* pet of the classes able to equip it.

With only a few EP items im sitting at around 6,525 hp raid buffed...

As a Shaman of 65 Seasons I get bored of the normal roles delgated to the typical Shaman.

A Shaman if outfitted for it can "TANK". Now of course our typical end game hit points top out around 5-6K fully buffed. But before the flames start to much..... This item is an ideal addition to a class that has the *BEST* pet of the classes able to equip it.

As far as procing hammers go.... Nice toy but since a Shaman can self buff, buff pet, and have Ferine Avatar up and running on both pet and self with the addition of keeping Q-Healing going pretty much all the time while tanking.

Welp the bottom line is this is GREAT gear for us priest classes and finnally one we don't have to worry about it going to a meleer by default!

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 07 2004 at 5:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As a 65 cleric I melee pretty much the whole time in all my exp groups. With yalup 6 (12 mana/tic) and a HoT that does 3K with my extended AA's, I pretty much never sit. With the procing hammer, Yaulp 6, haste, FA or NDT (depending on the class of my slower), I'm pretty sure that my damage output is greater than that of the average lvl 65 shaman. This is a GREAT cleric shield

Got this last nite. I'm glad it's not for melee classes or I'd never have been awarded it. 41% haste - I love it. I will trade for the dog and the kids, but keep the wife.
upgrade
# Apr 10 2003 at 2:34 AM Rating: Default
Upgraded from a focus crystal to this tonight. Some may not think its an upgrade with lower wis/int, but int is worthless and my ac sucks, plus this has more hp/sta, str and better resists-especially disease. The haste is a bonus as I've always wanted a haste item that actually has useful stats too. Best of all, the graphic is unique among druid items. I love it!

good weapons need good haste
# Jan 19 2003 at 12:49 PM Rating: Default
coming from a cleric point of view, There is a time to heal.. there is a time to melee.. and there is a time to do both..

as someone posted before.. no, clerics/shamans/druids wont do as much damage as pure melee classes due to the fact that these three classes are priests. does that mean priest classes should not melee? hell no... if you are a well equiped priest and know your primary job well.. then by all means melee all you want.. mana free damage was never a bad thing..

A meleeing cleric on horseback is great to have anywhere due to the full mana regen while on the horse.. with the new summoned hammers and this 41 haste shield... that is easily 10k damage mana free on an upper level mob.

You loose the mana regen benifit of being on a horse if you are in combat mode. sorry :(

The shield also has +15 str now. Aside from the hp/mana and str, the stats above are correct.
Yes, it's ah... very nice.

/drool 41% haste and nice stats. With the melee changes with clerics, I can see some clerics arm wrestling with shamans over this item.
we do melee
# Sep 21 2002 at 7:23 PM Rating: Decent
as for the comment about not meleeing once your of a level to use this item, i have one thing to say .....you dont have a clue please do try to remember shammys do solo from time to time and need to melee to 1. finish off a mob, 2 melee just to do more dd to a mob, 3. and because the sit, stand , cast , sit, repeat as required, has to be the most borning aspect of the game. imho any class that can equip a wpn has the ability to melee

Weight 1.0. clearly this is a monk item
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 18 2002 at 3:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It WOULD be a monk item, EXCEPT IT CAN'T BE USED BY THEM. And of course the fact that MONKS DON'T USE SHIELDS. I personally almost dropped a load in my pants when it said CLR DRU SHM/ALL, what, NO PALADIN!? Horse patoot, Pallys USE shields, NEED the ac and wis, and LOVE resists!? What the heck was the item designer smoking when he thought this crap up? it has HOLY in it's name, and last time I checked Druids aren't holy, they go with the flow of nature. Paladins, HOLY KNIGHTS, THINK ABOUT IT! sheesh

It's nice to see a haste item that *won't* spark the over-frequent debate over NBG(need before greed). A +15 WIS Shield with haste certainly would have done so to some degree.

That is why you don't see Paladins as one of the classes: this is a haste item for the priest classes.

Another over-frequent debate here is whether any low-weight item is a 'monk item'. It's gotten to the point of self-parody and beyond. The post starting this thread is clearly sarcasm....

Very true...and with the new cleric hammer and yaulp spells to be released, (I'll assume they go live) clerics may very well be looking for haste items a lot in the near future. This would be an awesome item if that hammer procs as much as it's supposed to.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 25 2002 at 12:26 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) When you get to the level that you can get this shield you will almost never melee. I find it to be a joke on the part of verant to put haste on an item that can only be used be classes that cannot have use of it at the high levels.
RE: i need this shield
# Jul 26 2002 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default
That used to be the case, but casters have been given more of a melee chance recently with some items. Sure, they wont deal any real damage even with a good dmg/dly ratio, because they dont have the bonuses and extra skills of a true melee class. But they've been given effects on the items which are melee triggered. Example - Blackstar. Theres others too, cant remember the name but theres some wiz usable staff from Ring of Fire which procs Ice Comet, theres a shammy staff that procs Group Primal Essence, and many others.

Haste on an item like this just increases the proc chance which is useful.

At 59, I melee quite a bit in exp groups against high hp mobs in indoor zones such as Kael, as long as there's a chanter to C2 or KEI me. Outdoors I don't melee because I'm on horseback and that stops my medding. Heck, alot of the time I can't med because if you sit after slowing and maloing a mob you'll get instant aggro. So, may as well poke it in the behind with my epic stick. Doesn't do too much, but the haste would help me do a little more. Indoors soloing, I melee during every fight, and the haste would be welcome, in fact I use a 17% haste item all the time while soloing indoors. Shaman can and do melee at high levels and every little bit of damage you can do to help counts. This is a great shield, and the haste is a bonus.

As a cleric that likes to do all the things clerics aren't supposed to do (when the situation allows of course,) I'm going to have to ask the question that any melee would have by now...how much haste?

Not an upgrade to Aegis of Life
# Feb 20 2002 at 2:27 PM Rating: Default
This is an excellent shield, but I don't see it as an upgrade to the Aegis... most clerics and pallys don't equip the Aegis, they wear it in the back slot.

I agree that from the name, it sounds like it should be a Cleric/Paladin only shield.

What I don't get is, what the heck do I need with Haste? I haven't melee'd in twenty levels at least. Give me a Clarity effect on this bad boy and I'd be a happy girl :)

Should be for Paladin as well
# Feb 20 2002 at 1:36 PM Rating: Default
I'm happy this is cleric equipable (since I play a cleric as my current main,) but it also should be equipable by paladins. In my mind, this is a nice upgrade from the Aegis of Life, which is usable by clerics and palys.

I don't understand why druids can equip it. The whole concept of "Shield of Holy Vigor" just doesn't fit the druid class very well.
RE: Should be for Paladin as well
# Feb 20 2002 at 2:35 PM Rating: Excellent
Haste doesn't fit a cleric very well, either.
RE: Should be for Paladin as well
# Feb 20 2002 at 2:16 PM Rating: Decent
Think like this though, didnt they put in a new Pure caster only haste item sorta like this shield, i forget the name, but i know I saw it, well, i think this follows that same concept. and on the subject of Holy = Paly/cleric, what about Nature = Druid/Ranger..... if only it did, but to be blunt, it dont. so dont expect every HOLY item to be for clerics/Palis, remember, Wisdom casters are Priests, and being a Priest for your race may be as holy as it gets... IE, woodelves, we got druids, no clerics, we worship nature...(most of us), so therefor, in wood elf religion, it would seem feasable that Druids would be the Holy men... but, thats just my thought, what do i know :P

Shield of Infused Power also
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 19 2002 at 9:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Now you see the name Shield of "HOLY" Vigor and you think paladin but NOO lol. :)
RE: Hmm
# Feb 20 2002 at 1:27 AM Rating: Default
As a paladin, whenever I see "holy" in the name of an item I also tend to think/hope it might be for my class (or at least for a cleric) but this kind of mislead seems to happen a lot. It's a mighty fine shield for any class, but I can't imagine many druids high enough to loot this going toe to toe in combat much and needing that nice haste for melee.
