RE: Lower ac and battle tactics
# Apr 16 2004 at 10:46 PM Rating: Default
I would Like to say that THE pet experts are hands DOWN the Necromancer's. They are the BEST pet experts, because their pet grows along side them from level one. They are the best solo class for mainly that reason as well.
RE: Lower ac and battle tactics
# Oct 05 2005 at 7:44 AM Rating: Decent
when did this become an argument about which class is better?this is about a QUEST! besides yes Necs are better soloers but bst warders have one of the best taunt in the game.just my 2 cents.
Beastlord do not have pets
# Sep 17 2003 at 6:18 PM Rating: Default
Actually your wrong beastlords DONT have pets they have warders. Beastlords were not designed to sit back and have pet attack they are designed to fight together lower ac is a result of being a monk/shaman hybrid.
Lower ac and battle tactics
# Oct 22 2002 at 7:28 AM Rating: Default
I have a level 22 beastlord and would like to suggest some tactics. Part of the reason why a beastlord has lower ac is that the pet is designed to do the majority of the fighting. It should not be uncommon to see an experienced beastlord sitting back in med while the pet attacks. It gives you a good advantage if you get into too much trouble--if the pet is about to die, you can make tracks to the zone while your pet occupies the mob giving you an fair lead. Even without any buffs my pet deals more damage than my character and frequently hits with dual attacks--reaching quad attacks at higher levels. This would explain why you see warder kills a lot in a group, the pet deals more hits, and is much better at chasing down a wounded mob than a PC.

There is a reason why a beastlord warder is stronger than a regular pet. For all of you who have not tried it, let your pet deal with the mob. That's what they are there for.

The BST is best used when you get yourself into the fight and take some of the hits off the pet. One of the reasons BST pet heals look so good is because the pets have significantly fewer HP than a magician pet.

A bst has many melee skills and stats for a reason. You're meant to melee. You'd have stats like mine if you weren't. :)

Take turns tanking with your pet. You'll save mana on pet heals and keep your melee stats/skills high.

Which is going to contribute more to a group; a bst sitting back and playing pet cleric (pet generally won't have aggro with a tank present so that's rather moot), or you AND your pet dealing damage?

And yes, pets do get the AC from summoned armor.

Dasme is right, we magicians are the pet experts (with all due respect to the other pet classes). Some of us have been mastering the art of pet management since before beastlords were invented.

I just got my first pet and immediately noticed the type of attacks the lil feller was using - Straight off the Warrior. So, making an assumption here, if all BL pets are warriors then of course they will always out damage their master and also endure damage better.

Too bad they don't make any pet armor quests. A nice plaid jerkin would clash nicely with tiger stripes, dontcha think?

*grin*

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 07 2003 at 2:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) there are no quested armors for pets, but you can give them armor. I got a suit of phantom plate off a mage friend of mine and gave it to my warder. The damage done to him by mobs droped significantly. It was only the lvl 9 pet, so i dont know how much of a difference this would make later on, but you could tell his ac jumped way up with the addition of armor at lower levels. So if you get a peice of crap armor, cloth rawhide or the like, drop it on your pet, every little bit helps.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 19 2003 at 1:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You did the right thing Azrielgavan, when dealing with pets always go to the experts. No class handles pets better than a Mage does. Good move.
How to MQ (multiquest)

Probably the quickest way to raise faction with the Vah Shirs is by repeating the citizenship quest. My halfling cleric went from indifferent to allied after completing the citizenship quest 4 times. My friend's ogre warrior did the same.

The basic premise behind MQing is that when you give an item to an NPC, it goes into a FIFO queue where it is stored until some other item completes the quest set. For example, the citizenship quest requires two items: a taxpayer's certificate and an acrylia slate. The key here is that it doesn't matter who turns in which item - whoever completes the quest set will receive the no-drop note to the king.

Only Vah Shirs can get the taxpayer's certificate, so either ask a friend or create a throw-away Vah Shir character yourself to run the citizenship quest up to the point where you get the certificate. Then, turn in the certificate to the Registrar WITHOUT an acrylia slate. The certificate will remain in the quest queue awaiting completion. Now, have your main character give the Registrar an acrylia slate. The set becomes complete, the queue clears, and voila, your main will receive the note to the king. Give the note to the king, visit the Registrar one more time to complete the quest, and then destroy the citizenship papers and start over. Running the quest 4 times should take less than 30 minutes.
faction
# Jun 04 2002 at 6:03 AM Rating: Decent
do you have to be a citizen? or can you kill loda kai for hours and become an ally? my mage has awesome faction with Vah Shir from doing that...but haven't tried that quest
RE: faction
# Sep 15 2002 at 8:41 AM Rating: Default
The faction helps, but you have to show an acrylia citizen slate to Fahaar before he will talk to you about the quest and give you the young hopperhide collection bag.
Large race useable
# Mar 09 2002 at 12:15 PM Rating: Decent
For those of you who think this is a Vah Shir only quest, you are forgetting something. You can get your own acrylia slate if you are not a cat by MQ'ing the citizenship quest with someone created for just this purpose.
RE: Large race useable
# May 31 2002 at 6:32 AM Rating: Decent
How do you MQ the slate? I'd like to get my druid better faction in Shar Val, but can't get any of the quests that raise faction because he's not a citizen.

RE: Beastlords
# Feb 25 2002 at 8:06 AM Rating: Excellent
Um, Ok. Beastlords get a pet that, after a spell buff, is equal to them in level. I've only played a beastlord up to a pretty modest level, but he can solo quite well. I've heard that Beastlords aren't much help to groups, but I've never grouped with one so who knows.

BST don't get double attack, but they do have a hasted and buffed pet the same level as them fighting next to them, so who cares.

Are any of the classes perfect? Nope. Are they all equal in ability / difficulty to play? Nope. ANY of them, however, can be made useful and effective by an intelligent player - if you can't manage to use a given class effectively, examine your own techniques... It might be YOU, not the class.

do bstlords get dual wield?
RE: Beastlords
# Sep 15 2002 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
ummm... actually, once in paludal caverns, i was getting a group to take camp 2... i was fortunate to have an ogre beastlord <bears = fun>, and in the span of just ten minutes, i scored a yellow <the camp had been wiped out earlier... our group was 2 woodelf drids, 1 half-elf druid, a dark elf necro <with pet>, and an ogre beastlord <with pet>... after 5 minutes... another ogre beastlord was LFG!!! in the span of literally a half of an hour... i got 3 yellows! and 3/4's of the kills were from the pets...
and to the best of my knowledge, i think beastlords DO GET DUAL WIELD... i have never played a bstlord before, but they sound fun... which race is better though? i like the tiger's from vah shir's, but the bears are awesome... LOL too hard to choose
RE: Beastlords

Yes, Beastlords do get Dual Wield at level 17.
RE: Beastlords
# Jul 09 2002 at 8:32 PM Rating: Decent
Aaahhh, the Beastlord one of the most vesitle classes in the game. I now play my beastlord quite a bit more than my mage who is 11 level higher atm. Not only can they solo quite well, better than my mage, they can be a big help in a group by dealing large amounts of damage (the pet helps alot here look at the message of who gets the kill don't be surprised if yourname's warder show up alot). Beastlords have the best pets in the game, I know my beastlord's pet could kick the crap of out my mage's pets(I don't about the epic pet my mage isn't high enough yet). I love beastlords they are a great addition to the game. They can do a little of everything tanking, healing, and buffing. BEASTLORD POWA!!! ;)

And continuing on in that theme...

I have a lvl 12 Vah Shir beastlord who got jumped by 2 dk blues last night. In the middle of the fight, a third dk blue joined in. I was down to less than 2 bubbles of health and all 3 mobs were still alive and pounding on me and my pet. As soon as we killed the first, I backed off, cast Spirit of Sharik on my pet (for those of you unfamiliar with Beastlords and their spells, this is a pet only buff that also completely heals them), healed myself up to 3 bubbles, cast Spirit on my pet again, and jumped back in. We finished off the last 2 dk blues just in time to get jumped by yet another dk blue and ended up killing it shortly thereafter. I had 2 bubbles of health left at the end of the fight and my pet was down to about 25% of his health.

Now just in case you were wondering, this char is not twinked at all, the only armor and weapons he had were the ones available through the quests in Shadeweaver's and Shar Vahl. None of the other characters I've played have been able to handle 4 dk blues back to back without taking a break, with the exception of my pretty well twinked Bard, and he was only able to do it through a combination of equipment and good tactics (full blackened alloy armor and a Centi SS at lvl 13).

So, those who bash the Beastlord character either:

A) Have never played one, or...
B) Don't know how to play one

The Beastlord is becoming one of my favorite characters, specifically for the reason stated above. I haven't grouped that much to this point, so I'm sure I'll encounter some issues there that I will have to figure out. Group tactics are different from solo tactics, and the pet may not be as effective in a group, I'll just have to see. I agree wholeheartedly with TalibMT's post, especially his summary paragraph, so rather than repeat what he has said, I'll refer all of you to his post above.

by the way, the beastlord complete heal cheat was "fixed" a few patches ago, so no more of that. we can, however, heal 2-1/2 bubbles of health on our pets with the replenish spell.

it isnt a bad item for bards at all, the 10 cha is nice, tho you dont need cha til 27. You could switch these with your lambent bp when your charm kiting or on mez duty for the group. over all its a nice item.

...beastlords seem to get screwed on every single high level beastlord item when it comes to armor class. I bet this tunic has more armor class than beastlord quest tunics from Kael Drakkel or Skyshrine. Beastlords are destined to have horribly low armor class... but that's the price you pay for such low-weight items! Oh, wait, beastlords don't get an armor class bonus for low encumberance... Hmmm, I guess you just pay the price, but don't get any bonuses. Bleah, someone needs to re-think all these beastlord items. :(

Obviously someone has never played a druid or they would know that druids are about he most scr***d class when it comes to armor. I'm level 39 and still wearing some of my newbie quest stuuf since i can't find better. I would love to have some of the stuff Int casters get, and don't get me started on weapons.

'Bleah, someone needs to re-think all these beastlord items. :('

Such as the pet for starters? Either it would be rely on the pet for dmg, or tank for dmg. Can't get the best of both worlds, or else you would see pet classes tanking. =)

Hmmm...my beastlord is only 53 in non-quest armor and already has over 1k ac....oh btw, I solo faster then any other class too...you were saying?

I have a 59 Beastlord (orge of course), and my bear can solo a camp that takes 3-4 ppl to camp. My bear does the job of the tank, the chanter and the nuker. I just sit back, debuff the mobs, DoT, and keep bear alive. If I got spare mana, I can toss in 450+ dmg nukes. Show me another class that can melee too and I'll show you Santa Claus on your doorstep.

With all the tailoring to get this, no tailoring bonus?
and its only for certain races/class?
From the quest description, i expected to see a bonus with all/all and maybe no stats other than bonus
RE: well less than i would have expected

It doesn't matter what classes/races the tunic states can wear it. Fact of the matter is only Vah Shir can wear it because it's no drop and you can't do this quest if you're not Vah Shir because to get Fahaar to give the quest you have to hand him your Acrylia Slate which only Vah Shir have.

The fact that it's for large races only accounts for the limited number of classes that may equip this item, doncha reckon? (Although Verant doesn't always appear to abide by this rule; I've seen many items that are supposedly, just for example, RNG-compatible, but not usable by elves, halfelves or humans.) /shrug
