Lol apperently this a good item and in was given one a couple days ago by this warrior this is my first time to play EQ and am a lvl 12 druid i am wondering should i sell this for 5kpp or keep it?
RE: Help!
# Jan 15 2002 at 12:25 PM Rating: Good
Wait!

Sell the item

Buy your self +Mana items....+wis items secondary.

Until you hit a reasonable level the +Mana is WAY more important than the +Wis items...

Much Like warriors and +HP items over +Sta items.

Tough call! I would say that you should sell it, since as a druid you won't need this item nearly as much as you will need a mess of +WIS gear (to get WIS up to 200).
Question
# Nov 30 2001 at 4:43 PM Rating: Decent
Is the haste on FBSS stackable with other haste's(say given to me my an enchanter in a group)? or is this belt comparable to having a personal enchacter with you though out the game? thanks
RE: Question
# Jan 16 2002 at 6:26 AM Rating: Decent
Following Haste Effects stack:
1 Item Haste
1 Spell Haste
1 Song Haste

(at least that is how it is intended, Verant had some problems with bard song stacking in the past though)

So, the FBSS Haste would add to the Enchanter Haste.

Hope that helps

Haste Stacking
# Nov 27 2001 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
ok the only toon i have any real experience with is my magician, so please forgive the noobish melee-type question...

i just started a monk twink and gave him an fbss for his birthday. i've read a couple posts in this thread talking about max haste percentage, and i am wondering if haste ITEMS will stack with eachother. in other words, if i give my monk some crystal chitin wraps for christmas, will the two haste effects be added together or will the higher percentage item override the lower one? (cc wraps are 31%, correct? i cant find them on this site) or does haste stacking only occur with haste items + haste spells/songs?

thank you =)

Ok for Evildoer, roflmao! "the ONLY good stats this has is haste!" wtf are you thinking? Obviously you haven't gotten far in the game and haven't witnessed the difference between a melee with an fbss and one without an fbss. Have you even read any of the earlier posts on this thread about what haste does?

For Fahleenah #1 at lvl 16 you're going to be able to taunt off everyone else in your group without an fbss. #2 the sash is not meant for lvl 16's to camp or buy #3 as you get higher in lvl the loot you get from mobs gets higher! can you believe that? thus, you can buy it a lot sooner than lvl 50...I'm lvl 34 now and have accumulated at least 3k in the last 10 lvls alone and I havn't looted anything uber
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 24 2001 at 10:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok ok ok.. First off.. The only good stats this sash has is Haste! WOW! Matter of fact its the only stat! This thing isnt worth no damn 6k.. I would say its worth about 2k.. 1k for having haste and the other for camping it! Spread this feeling about this stupid *** price and I truely believe that the prices will go down for it!

I can't believe anyone is that clueless... saying an FBSS is crap becuase all it has is haste and no stats, is like saying a Ferrari Testarossa is a crappy car because it has no towing capacity and low gas mileage, all it can do is drive fast... hello, that's the whole point. I'm sure once you realize how valuable the haste on this is you can afford to sacrifice the ac and stats on whatever belt you're wearing. It is indeed worth 6k plat (although prices are coming down a little, I dubot they'll ever drop below about 4k).

aside from all the ******** and moaners...i realize that you must be of high level to loot this item and have more money than the gods to buy it...sigh...my main is a 16th season warrior, i was just given a kick *** 2hs weapon and recommended to pick up the fbss. is it absolutely necessary to have this item or can i sludge by on brawn alone? as the warrior i have higher hp's and ac than others i group with on a regular basis and find myself being tank. i dont want to let my group members down so should i stick to dual wield? or go with the 2hs without fbss and deal with it? oh the dilemma of it all. after 2 months of playing i have managed to save up around 200pp, if i never buy food and water again, or anything else for that matter...by the time i reach lvl 50 i may have enough to purchase this item....good grief. ok so there was some ******** and moaning at the end. hehe

Hmm, it's a bit unclear how you're meaning to get the FBSS. If you're thinking of selling your 2hs to get it, assuming the 2hs is worth enough, I'd say yes. If it's not worth several k, you don't even have to worry about it for the time being. But yes, you should DEFINITELY learn and use dual wield...warriors are not there to deal damage, they're there to take it. Two fast 1hand weapons will produce much more taunt than one 2handed weapon, almost always. If your 2hs isn't really expensive (do a PC with someone you trust), then I'd keep it, because you should keep all your melee skills maxed- not just slashing, but blunt and piercing as well. But if it has a lot of value, I'd sell it and get a FBSS if you can. And to anyone who thinks a FBSS is less useful because of its low AC, consider this...if you're 21% faster, you're doing that much more damage. In a group, that probably means the MOB will die 10% faster. Broadly speaking, that means you take 10% less damage per kill. Sounds like a pretty good piece of armor to me.

Probably not alone. A level 42 melee would not very likely be able to solo this guy, much less a caster at 36. Even with your pet, your going to need at least one melee with you to back you up, and preferably a healer as well. You solo this guy, your going to constantly be getting hit and having your spells interrupted while he just outright ignores or quickly kills your pet. I'd say you'd have to be at least 50 to solo this guy, but A full group in the high 30's or low 40's might be able to handle him, albeit with some difficulty.

It's not just the rarity or the haste that makes the FBSS so valuable, it's the difficulty of defeating this mob.

Whats up bro! Didn't realise one of my guildies were on here, and with a title at that. =) Well to back up what you had to say, no he couldnt solo frenz alone let alone the whole frenz room. I couldnt solo frenz alone either so dont feel bad. I met a 52 mage that was soloing the room once, but my guess is that when I hit 52 I still wont be able to solo the room. Warriors are seriously lacking in the solo department ya know. Gool luck on dem rolls people.

Hey all, Empi here (29 bard - ATM) and all I can say about this belt - is WOW, omg. This with jws going (25% haste song) - I duel a symphonic saber and a css. My main (50 wiz - ATM) got this for me in EC on Bertox the other day for 5k.

Yes, yes, yes I know. Some of you are out there saying, what the heck does a bard need a FBSS for? Well, it is a very nice belt for just about any class, in my opinion. If I start taking too much aggro, I just back off and quit playing songs, like I have to do anyway, since we draw aggro no matter what we do, hehe :op

Many people told me not to get a FBSS for my bard, they said they dont need it. But when my main fought in DL, I grouped with many bards who was wearing this fine belt. Anyway, I am glad to finally get mine. Next thing im looking at is a Seahorse spine bracer, to replace my Hero bracer, hehe. That looks like a very nice bard item, if you play on Bertox and have a SSB for sale, give me a tell.

# Nov 08 2001 at 4:42 PM Rating: Default
Ok this is for the guy who flamed about rangers having an fbss. #1 Rangers are NOT going to dish out the same amount of damage as a warrior. #2 If a ranger does pull aggro then the warrior can TAUNT! A ranger with an fbss is not going to pull aggro off a duel wielding warrior with taunt, it ain't going to happen. And for the guy who flamed about a 22 monk getting an fbss, monks are supposed to hit faster than any other class, an fbss is the IDEAL item for a monk with good weapons already. If a monk pulls aggro from a warrior all he has to do is feign death, jump back up and continue attacking. And at level 22 my monk was NOT getting hit for 100 damage by giants, come on they hardly ever hit for even 45 and I wasn't twinked. You people need to quit going off about classes you have never played.

Aw sure, at around level 51, Rangers can and do easily put out as much damage as a warrior. It's all about what weapons you're using at that point. I'm often out-damaging the warrior anymore. At 51 that becomes okay too because of a spell called "Jolt" which diverts attention away from me and to the tank. No, we're still not tanks, because we're still made of paper mache, but the damage we're putting out is now a very good reason to bring a ranger aboard.

As for the fbss, I've debated getting one for ten levels. I wear a substantial belt from Skyshrine that has bunches of stats in all the right places and a hefty ac. Suddenly my belly button would be cold and I'd feel a little weaker. But I crave speed like you wouldn't believe. I'm a speed little guy now but I'd like to see what an fbss could do to me. /shrug Think I'll be buying one soon now.
attention aggro owner classes
# Dec 10 2001 at 8:18 PM Rating: Decent
If a Ranger gives me a tough problem on taking aggro off him (me a Paladin), then it would be MUCH easier to take it off a Warrior since all they do is good damage, period. But since a Ranger cant tank, I have to take aggro off Ranger, and sometimes its tough. Just to let you know Paladins own damage taking/aggro keeping, we cant dish out much damage like your classes can, so why bother taking damage when you supposed to be giving it? Sure a Ranger might out do us in aggro, but just watch how fast those HP's drop. What other class does high hits, has 3 stun spells memmed and roots/flash of light? Unless YOU can stun then dont post because you WONT know how mad a mob gets when its stunned. Its about the only way you can unmezz a mob without monster raping the chanter (tip).
FYI wizards own aggro... problem is they get owned by mob after aggro. - currently level 48 Paladin

Sorry, there are other ways to break mez without killing your chanter. You seriously want to trust 1 spell to get you to the top of the hate list? The rule of thumb among the groups I have been in is taunt three times before breaking mez. So, taunt three times and then stun the mob or tag it to break mez.

Rangers are designed to be offesive machines, why do u think they get jolt spells. rangers take taunt off warriors all teh time with their spells. hell ive seen a ranger witha 2hs outtaunt a warrior dualwielding in velks at kobald tents. its quite possuble for a ranger to out taunt / out damage a warrior

Simple fact of life for a ranger from the 30's on up is to learn aggro control or die. A good ranger knows how to take aggro when he wants it and to pass it on when he wants to. I have been in groups where the warrior and the monk have been arguing about keeping the aggro, and stayed quiet. Why? because I personally have taunted a mob off of a warrior when he was at one bubble of health! (he promptly regained the aggro so he could be the first recipient of his cleric wife's brand new 90% res, LOL) A ranger uses levels 1-30 to build up his taunt while the mobs won't kill him outright so that post 30 his taunt is an impressive thing indeed. I rarely taunt anymore, but when I do, it usually works. I know to root a mob beating on me so that I can pull back so the mob beats on the main tank instead of me. I know when to stop hitting a mob so that the MT can regain aggro if I don't have root loaded. I do occasionally steal aggro from the MT when I don't want to, but as you see, I can give it back fairly quickly. But if I want the aggro, its MINE at my leisure.
A good ranger knows his role in a group is to DEAL DAMAGE (fight from behind the mob so your attacks are not parried, riposted, or dodged) and to PEEL mobbs off of casters/healers (use Flame Lick as part of your taunt!). A properly played ranger could quite easily survive in a group for this camp.
RE: Flamers
# Nov 27 2001 at 6:25 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, however. how many ranger corpses do you see laying around, compared to warrior corpses? 9 times out of 10, its a ranger's corpse. ive been trying to camp fbss for a week now, and havent seen ANY rangers there at all. Why you ask? BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT SURVIVE FRENZY!!!

I have to second that! Any Ranger by the 30's is going to need to learn aggro control. Know how to get aggro when you need to peel a mob off your healer. Learn when to avoid aggro when you have a meatshield next to you. I feel bad for a Ranger in Velk's that is stealing aggro, by then the Ranger should play well enough to not steal aggro from the tank. I carry a both a dual wield and a 2-handed slashing in my EE bag so that I can match my taunt with my role in the group.
RE: rangers and FBSS
# Nov 08 2001 at 4:35 PM Rating: Decent
Rangers do dish out alot of damage, and are often the object of the mobs "affection." I find that when I am in a group, and I'm being thrashed on more than the main tank, I can kite the mob pretty easily. As long as the mob is snared (which seems to be a huge taunt in itself,) and I have SOW, all I have to do is run in a circle. It's almost like a reverse fear kiting, with the mob chasing me, the scared ranger. The mob slowly chases after me while my groupmates hack it to death in it's back. There are risks of adds of course, and while it's easy to stay out of the mobs meelee range, those spells from 50 yards away have left me smoldering on the ground with this method.
Completly random
# Oct 31 2001 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent
I had heard that the FBSS dropped about 4 times a day in average. I seriously doubt that. Camped it for 10 straight hours, about 5 frenzied, and all moonstones. I had to camp because I was falling asleep, but next day I sent a tell to the cleric that was with us, and she said she had stayed another 7 hours and still no fbss.

Next day, I go back down for a 7 hour session camping, the frenzied never even spawned. I got tired of it and decided to leave for a little since guk was becoming tiring.

Come back a few days later, and hear someone camped it for 47 hours straight, and they got ONE drop. One fbss. In 47 hours. There are always rumours of people seeing it drop three times in a row with each spawn giving an fbss. I doubt that ever happened, or if it did, this thing must be a COMPLETE random drop, with perhaps a 0.1% chance of dropping.

If you're planning on going on down there, prepare the mountain dew, coffee and jolt cola, cause you're there for the long haul.
RE: Completly random
# Nov 29 2001 at 12:21 PM Rating: Decent
It is a random drop therefor waiting two days may very well provide you with nothing, or 8 FBSS. I have been in a group where 3 out of 4 spawns in a row dropped a FBSS. Even with my luck I managed to walk out of there with one. This was however the day after I spent 18 hours and only saw one.

Well let m e throw out my 2cp worth. FBSS and rangers...well this will not make me many friends but if a ranger has good/uber/twink weapons he should not wear FBSS. Why?? he will pull aggro from just about anyone. Think about it he is probably casting some sort of spells and dealing out about the same amount of damage as a warrior. Who do you think is going to get aggroed? If a ranger is 2hs then maybe it will be alright. Also rangers with weps around their lvl shouldn't have to much trouble with pulling aggro, a good tank should be able to hold the taunt. Pallies and SK's?? ohh yeah they should have one..that way they have a better chance of pulling the taunt when the warrior gets in trouble. Plus most of the pallies/SKs have enough ac to take the damage for a round or two for the warrior to get healed. Warriors?? stupid question not even gonna make another comment on that. People need to remember that the game is group based not indivudual based. It is great that you can do a bunch of damage fast but so can the mobs on your low ac a$$. Let the people who were made for taking damage take the damage. Well like I said not gonna get alot of friends from this but that is normally from the greedy people that are only worried about gettign Uber gear and not playing the game how it was meant to be played.

The goal of the ranger is to stay alive, be aware of damage-dealing in groups, and hurry to 51 and the spell Jolt. It is at that point that the Ranger, now outdamaging most warriors, monks, bards, sk's and paladins and keeping aggro on the meat shield, is able to giggle in the general direction of all those who scoffed throughout his truly miserable life.

At 51 the ranger becomes amazing and just keeps getting better. A reward well deserved.

As for the fbss, a ranger with it paints walls with blood. But it's a big sacrifice in AC to a class that will always go down faster than anyone this side of a pure caster. Save the fbss for post-Jolt acquisition is my opinion.
RE: rangers and FBSS
# Nov 08 2001 at 6:59 PM Rating: Decent
Well let's see....since Rangers are an offensive class, we could give an item like to them so they can do more damage, or we can take it away from them so they do less damage than the defensive tanks. A ranger is supposed tom outdamage pallies, SKs and even warriors if they can. That's our job. Your job is to taunt and take hits. Then again, a Ranger has to learn how to stay just out of aggro range, so he may not be right in the front lines all the time to reduce aggro. Just my 2cp
RE: rangers and FBSS
# Nov 07 2001 at 7:38 PM Rating: Decent
Rangers are a walking taunt waiting to happen, ever notice that? A ranger w/o uber/good/twink weapons can still outtaunt a warrior real quick if they play the cards a certain way, especially when they pull. I know, my bro has a 35 ranger that i have also tooled around with... its not fun to die so often, hehe. jk

Well said my friend...BRAVO!!! We Pallys have no chance to outdamage anyone since most of us will be using 2h weapons, and unless its a primal weapon, we all know what the delays are on most 2h. This is a very important item for Pallys an Sk. My friend has a, get this, Shammy twink with one of these on. But your point is well said. people need to be more group friendly. Why must clerics wear these? Oh I know. Everyone needs pp :) This was not meant to bash any classes just to further the post.

no offense but these rock for shammies! with regen and canni i can dot/slow a mob and have mana back to full normally well b4 the mob dies. no need in setting doing nothing so i melee. and since i can hit for low 40's with a spear and 80+ with a 2hb, why not wear one and speed up the death of the mob? that way MA takes less damage and the cleric has to heal less.which means more mana for cleric....which everyone loves :)

Frenzy Camp
# Oct 18 2001 at 12:31 AM Rating: Decent
Did my first frenzy camp tonight. Respawn in the room seems to be 28 minutes I think. The first 5 waves (3 spawns) were all placeholders: wizards and bloodthirsty mostly. The 6th wave gave us 2 frenzied. First frenzied dropped fbss, second dropped moonstone.
The group was 42-47 (though one lvl 60 wiz joined us for a bit while we were without enchanter). As only a 44 ranger, i was worried about whether or not I would be able to get into the Frenzied group. Got into a group 10 seconds after zoning in with a cleric, a chanter, a warrior, a rogue.
I won the roll on fbss too, so it was a sweet victory indeed.

I can't believe you actually said that. You're joking, right? Either that or you're a complete idiot. The haste is good enough. And if you're at a point where you're worried about giving up the ac on your waist item, you'd better not be wearing this anyway, since the haste is going to cause the mob to want to hit you.

Not every piece of armor is meant to enhance defense only. This is an offense enhancing item, not defensive.

But sometimes the best defense is a good offense.

Would I rather have a swirlspine belt since the patch?
Of course.
Can I get into a group and loot a swirlspine belt at 44 without a fishbone earring (camped hadden once for 48 hours with no success =\)?
Not certain, but from what i've read, probably not.
FBSS is not the best haste item in the game by far but it is easily accessible to those of us who have to get our gear for ourselves.

Instead of the swirlspine belt, try camping the hangman's noose in Tark Teeth.

At 44, you will need a good tracker or two, cleric, and so on. Go to TT page to get details on hunter/forager cycle.

You can get the belt, keys to Seb early, AND get some nice exp. Lots of mobs to kill while waiting for Hangman to pop.

I go my noose a couple of weeks ago and prompt replaced my FBSS. Yea, lose a bit of haste (fbss 21% to noose of 17%), but picked up 5 ac. Also, noose can be worn either has a belt or head item.

it depends whether u have a higher lvl character, but if u dont, i recommend u buy adamantite epolets, crested spalders, or sebilite mantle for the shoulder slot, 200pp, 100pp, 400pp respectively, and for the belt, i really dont think a lvl 26 without a higher lvl character (i could be wrong) will be able to purchase an FBSS or a thick banded belt. the TBB is a possibility but a spider fur belt is also a nice item which u can purchase for about 1kpp or so, and since luclin is out, all of the prices i have given u should have dropped. :) good luck shopping :)

Okay, I'm a level 38 chanter. What are my chances of getting into a Frenzied Ghoul group so I can get a FBSS for my 22 iksar monk? I'm not gonna get the FBSS just to turn around and sell it, I actually need it for another character of mine, just saying that because I know alot of peeps frown on casters wanting to loot the FBSS. Throw me some answer everyone, please.

honestly, if you want your monk to die at 22 because teh tanks cant taunt off of him in FM and the giants knock you up for 100hp a pop real fast, be my guest to try for this belt, just dont make it on my watch. Remember, the warriors that are in your group need these more hits to get the mobs off of you say when mezs break. Otherwise, it'll be the chanter dying, THEN the ranger. My point, let a melee your level that needs this get it before you if you are grouped and most certainly if your guilded, especially since you are just gonna twink with it, let someone who needs it get it. I need to get mine, planning on it in about a week or so. If anyone wants to join me, I'll be on on Friday Nov. 16 and that weekend to try to camp the place as long as possible. If you would like to help me, feel free to tell me. If you are in need too, the drops after mine will be randomed off to those in most need and most deserving. See you then.

I would say your chances of getting in that group are slim to none unless you're in a guild that can handle the area and won't care if you're there. At 38 you won't be a very huge help to a 50ish group, so you'll need some friends to help you down there.
Haste - Facts and Figures

*sighs* So much misinformation and so little time to correct it.

First off, the EQ game engine uses haste as a means to calculate the number of attacks per second. However, many players prefer to look at it as decreased delay. Now the truth is that increased attack speed results in a decrease in delay but in an inverted relationship (which someone noted below). As stated below, 100% haste does NOT mean zero delay on a weapon. It means the weapon swings twice as fast, which is effectively a 50% delay reduction. To calculate the new delay reduction of a weapon, take the haste percentage of an item (say, 21%), convert it to a decimal (0.21), add 1.0 to that number (1.21), and now divide the delay of the weapon by that number. A lammy (9/19) with a 21% haste item will have a new effective delay of (19 / 1.21 = 15.7) 16 delay. If you take the difference (3.3) and divide that by the original delay you get... 17%. Voila. There is your 17% delay reduction.

Second, the primary hand attack speed is TOTALLY independent of the offhand. Don't believe me? Put a FAST piercer in the offhand and a SLOW slasher (like a wurmy) in the mainhand. Count the number of attacks per offhand (by counting the piercing messages) and time these attacks. A fast piercer like a crafted velium spear (10/18) should attack every 1.8 seconds (on a high level character with maxed dual wield skill and no haste). This will verify that the offhand is independent of the main hand for timing. So yes, Virginia, using a lammy offhand is a good deal with a wurmy mainhand. Anyone who believes otherwise is playing their character below par, and delivering less damage to the group as a whole.

Third, you can be wearing 10 haste items but only the highest haste will count. In other words, multiple haste items do NOT stack. In addition to haste from one haste ITEM, you can also receive haste from one haste SPELL. This is where enchanter and shaman buffs like quickness, celerity, etc., all come into play. There are a FEW exceptions to this, such as a ranger using a special quiver. In this case, a ranger can get item haste, spell haste, and a speed increase (in effect, a haste) from his quiver for archery. In general though, remember the rule of 1 item haste and 1 spell haste.

Fourth, there are caps on total haste. At level 60 most classes cap right around 100% haste max. A few classes (monks come to mind first) can exceed this by a small margin. At levels below 60, the caps are lower. So if you were (theoretically) a level 46 paladin with the 40% paladin haste belt from Sky, it would be a waste to cast a 60% or greater haste on you.

Fifth, the poster who thought he got 8 attacks per round does not understand the EQ combat engine. The maximum number of attacks per round (except for level 60 warriors and now monks as of today) is 4 attacks. This is using dual wield and double attack. The classes that can achieve 4 attacks per round are warriors, rogues, monks, and rangers. Paladins and SKs do not get dual wield so they can only get 2 attacks per round using double attack on their single weapon. Bards can only get 2 attacks per round using dual wield (one attack with each hand) but since they do not get double attack, there can be no second attack with either hand. At level 60 warriors and monks get TRIPLE attack allowing a level 60 warrior or monk to get 6 attacks per round max (3 per each hand) when dual wielding.

I hope this clears up some of the misconceptions, rumors, urban myths, and legends that seem to permeate EQ these days.

Very good post which cleared up most of my questions on haste and dual wield.

Only one thing which wasn't mentioned and which I have read somewhere. Concerning Haste, is it true that apart from 1 Haste Item and 1 Haste Spell you could also stack 1 Haste song from a bard?
