So I've used these before, but not much. Today, however, instead of resurrection w/ 96% exp regained, I got a message: "You were unable to restore the corpse to life, but you may have success with a later attempt." Token was consumed. Fffft! Gone. So, what are the special rules for these things that I seem to have violated? Need to suspend my merc? Have to wait 5 minutes? Face Crescent Reach? Or is it just, "Sometimes they don't work." I can live with that, I just suffer from an aversion to, "Poof!" without a little heads up that the item is sold as is.

Sometimes they don't work. Like the primary anchor timer getting reset for that hour and 12 minutes when you forget to pay the upkeep to guild hall or house so it does not port you there but uses it and puts it in lockout. But guess that is better than blowing 86 loyalty tokens. I still use them all the time due rez myself or rest of group while in battle since merc's won't battle rez.

As a Druid or Cleric occasionally I will get that message when something is interfering with the rez process. Maybe another rez is in process. It is not that the rez fizzles. Sad to loose the token, though.
Alerynril wants to sell me 20 tokens. Handy, but wrong! Tokens only stack to 5! I'm cutting back on this mythical amount of loot I carry, all of a sudden more slots filled. Good thing they are Heirloom.

The Loyalty merchants use "Loyalty Tokens" (AKA "Crowns"). These can be found by opening the Inventory window, and looking at the TOP of the "Alt. Currency" tab. They are automatically deducted when you purchase an item at one of the merchants, similar to how Station Cash works. The fact that the Inventory and Merchant windows use different currency names has been a source of player confusion.
Crowns = Loyalty Tokens (or Loyalty Points)
FYI: The "Loyalty Velocity" simply indicates how many "Tokens" you earn each period. This value is adjusted depending on your type of account (Free, Silver, Gold) and how long it has been active. You may only be able to "bank" tokens until around 5900, possibly less. So spend them when you hit the mid-5000 range to be safe.
