On Air and Sky
# Mar 06 2006 at 9:15 PM Rating: Decent
The post below is pretty clear. Still, let's clear up confusion. "Po" will denote "Plane of", as standard in EQ.

Basic idea:
PoSky, PoAir, and PoStorms are all very different planes.

What are they?:
PoSky: Classical plane. Accessed through a Wizard spell, or, more recently, it may be accessed through handing a regant to an NPC in PoKnowledge.
PoAir: "Elemental" tier plane from the PoPower expansion.
PoStorm: Second tier plane from the PoPower expansion.

Why the confusion?
In orginal EQ, there was only PoSky. When zoning into PoSky, it would tell you that you entered PoAir, and the /who command would tell you that a person's zone was PoAir as opposed to PoSky. They were, orginally, one in the same, so Verant (the then-owners of EQ) never bothered to change it. Now Sony (the now-owners of EQ)has come along and added PoAir, causing PoSky's nickname, PoAir, to be a misgnomer (have to love this word when writing of EQ).

In short:
This zone, in which this post is in response to, is Plane of Sky. Plane of Air and Plane of Storms are both different zones.

Afternote:
To those who thought PoAir and PoSky were the same, you were right.. just.. it changed. That's the one thing everyone's been missing. PoAir was the secondary name for PoSky until a proper PoAir was released.

Plane of Air is a 4th tier Plane of Power. One of the elemental planes. People hunt Xegony there. You get flagged after killing Rallos Zek and talking to a Planar Projection which spawns when he dies. There is more to this quest listed elsewhere on this site.
Plane of Sky is the old world alternate plane where people have been hunting for ages. Sky is where wizards can port to like Hate, even though it says You have entered the Plane of Air (typo). It has islands you have to pass through in progression. Levitation was nerfed around the time Kunark came out. When you step off the edge of an island in the Plane of Sky, you fall into Freeport harbor. This is NOT the Elemental Plane of Air.
Everybody ok with this?

Doh, sorry..
Maybe with Planes of Power Verant will add a Spell Alter Plane: Air and the message will be You have entered the Plane of Sky...

PoA PoS

From what I have read PoA is diffrent from PoS.
PoS is a Planes of Power zone yet to be released
but who knows I have being wrong before and odds are i will be wrong again

If you are in Plane of Sky and hit '/', it brings up everyone in the zone, and at the end it says:

There are 33 players in the Plane of Sky.

If you do a /who all name, then it will come up

[60 Hieropahnt] Wayen (Half Elf) <Infusion> ZONE: airplane

So PoA and PoS are correct; however, with the release of the Plane of Storms, I suspect Storms will become PoS and the old Sky will become PoA.

No they are not the same, it is just a typo that verant is to lazy to fix, the plane of air is ruled by Xegony a elfin female with angel-like wings, while the plaine or sky is ruled by veeshan, the crystalline dragon and wurmqueen

Plane of Sky = Plane of Air

They're the same thing. Level 46 wizard spell "Alter Plane: Sky" but in the zone it says 'You have entered the Plane of Air'.

/shrug

"Thylex of Veeshan says 'Lord Vulak`Aerr now rests at the foot of Veeshan in the plane of sky. His ages of waiting to ascend have finally ended. It is surely a blessing of our holy mother Veeshan."

If people want to kill Vulak`Aerr, might as well have other stuff to do on the way, as trips can be long at times. Dunno, could be other reasons, though :)

Plane of Air and Plane of Sky are different planes....otherwise, ppl would be raiding Air to take out Veeshan -=)

I think what they meant in that patch message was...he no longer spawns...he's finally dead and resting in the "Heavens" (notice Veeshan is an anagram for Heavens?)....until they open the Plane of Sky...you ain't seeing him again...

No it's not. PoA & PoS (pardon the pun) are the exact same zones. Why they bothered to let that one slip by is ... well on my server we call this Verantitis :p

As for Veeshan being in PoA. There are MANY notations that mention this. Why we haven't seen Veeshan yet is cause VI hasn't made her live ... yet. /grins
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 24 2002 at 9:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) whatever way you cut it, verant is composed of a lazy bunch of jerks. if i had the ability, id go around and beat the crap out of all the gm's, theyre useless oterwise. sigh*

Those who have played the game from the very beginning would be able to tell you. The reason that Veeshan herself is not in the game is simply that, well, she's too big. If you have played since before any of the expansions and watched the opening video (I installed, removed, and reinstalled EQ to watch this over and over again hehe) on the original disk, you actually see Veeshan and Norrath. Veeshan is most definitely the larger of the two =)
