CHA and Fear
# Dec 13 2003 at 7:17 AM Rating: Decent
Can we lay it to rest: Shelomith, you are wrong. CHA has <<<NOTHING>>> to do with Fear/Trepidation. This is one of the oldest myths in EQ. Back when I used to use these spells, I tried them with my Hand of the Reaper, with ZH, with a stack of negative CHA items and they worked. I tried them with my CHA steins in both hands and other CHA items, and I can tell you that your CHA does not affect your ability to fear ANYTHING. The same fear spells still work, even when you are as charismatic as any enchanter.

If it can be frightened I have frightened it, and CHA, or the lack of it, has NEVER affected my capacity to fear MOBs. The only thing to fear from low CHA is the even lower vendor prices!
Charm
# Dec 12 2003 at 7:50 AM Rating: Decent
OK, my guild is in a position to one grp this guy and we have, so that a chanter and I acquired this recently (see thread on Nathyn). I was talking with a chanter who didn't have it, and he said he didn't want it since CHA doesn't affect mezzing and charming. Hmm. OK, I have never played a chanter, but I HAVE done undead mezzing in CoD, and charming in Everfrost for Paladin epic (haha on Miragul's pet), The Grey, Maiden's Eye and a bunch of High Priest runs. Last High Priest run we all duly charmed a Disciple. These are level 53, so Dire Charm is OUT. Mine broke about 6 times during the fight.

POST robe acquisition: I go and get my fave disciple, number Three. He succumbs immediately to Thrall of Bones (I have found Word of Terris a WASTE of time, but that is another story) and remained totally faithful apart from one break during the HP fight. OK, so he cast splurt on me, the unruly thing, but I charmed him right back and he held all the way to the end of High Priest, and happily slaughtered a few of his respawning bretheren. I even hasted him up with Rune of Death. All in all he was a good pet for a total of 15 minutes before we TLed out after looting, probably leaving him very bewildered after it all.

SO, while I am no chanter, and perhaps this robe doesn't affect their skills, but it made a HUGE difference for me as a necro. No switching to CHA steins and giving up HPs or stuff from wearing CHA rubbish gear that I would have preferred. This robe might not be the best robe there is for enc/necro in general use, I know I only wear it when I want to mezz/charm, but it's not to be sneered at for specialist uses.

If you are twinking a baby chanter of course this would be great, but if you are a lvl 65 with max CHA be a sport and give it to the necros unless you REALLY need it. I know some chanters will NEED the robe, but if you don't, let the necro have it. It is probably far more valuable to us than chanters.

CHA affects mezzes and charms and pacifies - tell that enchanter to go back to school.

I would have to agree that cha helps out Paci/Mez/Charm IMO.
cha is useful

charisma directly affects divine intervention.
CHA
# Sep 19 2003 at 5:50 AM Rating: Decent
Has several effects...

ONE it effects resist...with maxed CHA mobs higher level than you are less likely to resist BOTH charms or mez's...any mob that is not WHITE YELLOW or RED con is not likely to resist either a CHARM or MEZ...how ever DB mobs may not break mez/charm in 15 secs (see point TWO)

TWO it effects duration...but only increases chances for Charm and mez to get fullest
duration IT WILL NOT EXTEND DURATION...if a CHARM spell has a MAX duration of 8 mins HIGH CHA gives you a better chance that you will get the full 8mins it will never make an 8 min CHARM last more than 8 mins...

THREE it will effect vendors price however any enchanter worth his weight is going to have a HIGH CHA and beyond 125 or SO you are going to get max price just about anywhere you buy/sell so super high CHA for vendor prices is overkill...
RE: CHA
# Nov 19 2003 at 4:38 PM Rating: Decent
It also affects pacify resists. so if you go to pacify and have hig cha it is resisted if you make the cha check you dont pull a killer train on your self and possibly your group. higher cha = chance you wont agro on resists
RE: CHA
# Dec 15 2003 at 1:27 AM Rating: Decent
I can confirm that pacification is affected by charisma. I have two toons, a 65 chanter: 305 Charisma, and a 65 Cleric: 95 unbuffed Charisma. I was using pacification to help pull west wall in PoS. The group lost their cleric so I offered to play mine. Used Cleric to resume pacification and what a flop: agroed mob. We survived, and I got a Charisma buff, put two mugs in my hands and got out of the agroing range but still had resisted pacification spells. Never had them with Chanter.

Cha plays a huge part in duration..
# Aug 03 2003 at 8:52 PM Rating: Default
OK first of this guy can be done confirmed w/ 7 people.. I took them a lil under 45 minutes but 7 of them did it .. Second off you jamokes obviously have no clu WTF yer talking about yes CHA is definately important for charm and not for landing it or resist but for DURATION higher cha. = longer lasting charms and less likely earlu breakouts .. Want proof take off all yer cha gear and dont use cha buff and charm a mob every now and then youll get lucky and it will stick for a long time but when yer cha is higher it is much more reliable... and to my knowledge Cha has never played any effect in resist at all but has for me affected The DURATION of my charms and mezzes .. Think about it wtf would it be important for chanters lol ... any way latuh ....

Charisma does not effect duration of charm or mez. Charisma only effects resist when the spell first lands. The thing that does effect charm and mez is MAGIC RESIST. Every 6 seconds there is a resist check and the lower the magic resist, the better chance it will last longer.

CHA is also checked if a lull or pacify is resisted, if it's high enough or you get lucky the mob doesn't aggro

GOOD LORD! could you people quit posting YOUR BS ARGUEMENTS?! People just want to know strategies and experiences as to what it takes to take this mob down, that is the kinda pertanant information to post. whether or not they want to spend the time to take this mob down is their business. Would someone mind telling me what it takes to take this guy down?
#REDACTED, Posted: May 10 2003 at 4:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) From 120cha to 260cha, I have never noticed charm to work better due to charisma. It would make sense that it does, but it is insignificant if at all. Although charisma is nice for selling, I'll take HP over cha any day.

Ur totalbut realy totaly wrong

Trto charm or mezz with 120charisma only.

at lvl 48 I grouped with an enchanter lvl 44 I used to have 120 charisma and him 175. I wasnt able to mezz any Dblue con they was almost always resist and this little lvl 44 dont got any problem he was 4 lvl under me.

That was frustrating to see this little chanta mezzing bettther then me
RE: Charm/Mez

I beg to differ, Nimra.

My Enchanter, being a Gnome, has quite low charisma to start out with, and he wears no specific charisma equipment. Never have I had any kind of problem getting mezz (or charm) to land with the exception of mobs who are immune such as the giants in RM and DL. Obviously a con red will be much more difficult to mezz than a green con - level has its factor in resists as well. But charisma? I'm not convinced!

No Enchanter in my guild, or that I otherwise know on my server thinks that Mezz is affected by Charisma. Im sure there are some, but I dont know any of them personally.

Take off ALL your charisma gear, go to a lowbie zone (such as butcherblock) and tash yourself and have a low level skunk spray you (Charisma debuff). Then go somewhere else and try Mezz and charm with the lower charisma, and then after the Skunk Spray wears off, put your charisma gear on and use your charisma buff and test. I found no significant difference when i tested it, therefore I focus more on HP, Int, and mana items.

I've tested charm in many places on many different types of mobs. I've found that it seems to stick better in some places than others, and it always sticks better on a green con, than a dark blue con. Charm lasts quite a long time in Old Sebilis on the Warrior class frogloks, but usually it doesnt stick quite as long on the Wizard and Shaman frogloks. Also it seems to not last as long on the various spiders in Velks as it does in Old Seb. I saw no notible difference between 40 charisma (no cha gear, skunk spray, and some -cha equip) and 200+ Charisma (2 opal steins, Overwhelming Splendor, and other charisma gear).

Different enchanters will give you different opinions, which is alright as everyone is entitled to do so, but personally I have yet to be convinced Charisma is useful for more than selling to and buying from vendors.

I dont have a bard, druid, shaman or necromancer to know anything about their charm spells, and its quite possible that they could work differently. But as far as Enchanter charm goes, I find that it works the same, with or without tons of charisma.

Edit: Forgot to mention, my Enchanter's current charisma is 80 at level 58.

Negative CHA for fear is an ancient EQ myth; it isn't true. CHA helps with charm, and helps prevent agro from a resisted pacify. Has no effect on mez.

necros charm too
Hmmm
# Nov 05 2002 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
Well I play both, lvl 55 Necro and lvl 51 Enchanter. I think every Char is different and not all are the same. I say this because, my necro with just Necro gear on, not trying for neg CHA it just happens, has 38 CHA. I can charm a yellow or red and run him around killing for 5 to 8 mins. While other times it lasts 20 sec. While my enchanter on the other hand, I can mez mobs up to lvl 55, some I have to Tash others I don't. My mez the same about of time if I have either 80 CHA (my base) or 255 CHA (with gear). Charm I also can keep sometimes from 20 sec to 8 mins this is with 80 CHA or 255 CHA. Allure has a 8 min max from what I read. Of course the spell says Random so I dont look to be uber with it all the time hehe. Anyway my point is this, I think every char is different because most enchanters I know have a problem with Darkness resisting, and I have had very little problem. I get a resist maybe, big MAYBE, once every 40 casts. I normaly play with 255 int and 160 CHA with CHA Buff, not until a few days ago have I started getting CHR/INT gear so I am now at 255INT/255CHA. I am not saying any one is right or wrong, just saying that this is my experience and thought everyone may want to know.

Uzaree 55 Necro
Uzarees 51 Enchanter

Just had to comment... Mesmerise line of spells have ALWAYS a fixed duration depending of which one you use. IF charisma have any effect on mezz spells it would be the resist frequency. I dont know if charisma have any impact but most that seems to know what they are talking about and tested it claims it does. I keep charisma high anyways and i seldom get resists. No proof though. I never tried without gear and i always have charisma buff on.

Ah, and darkness line is not an enchanter spell line but its the nec snare/dot line, so your info is a bit off. Mixing up your chars, eh? ;)

if i was a melee in a group i think id want my chanter to have this. Ok...dispute over HOW MUCH effect charisma has on spells....who cares?? It does! +15 intelligence is good to have..its not like your missing out on that stat. So why wouldnt you want to max out an statistic that helps you out when you do the job that your group relies on you to do? Even one fail of a mez spell can mean fast hitpoint loss and a change of direction in battle esp if another mez breaks before you retry. +100 to a stat is uber any way you look at it. Personally i think charisma makes a big difference (from my humble overvations) and im tired of carrying around these stupid cups. Enchanter is my main and i dont see how any chanter wouldnt want it. I suppose you can debate and critique exotic sports cars...but wouldnt you like to have one? Just my two cents..call me nube if you want-im not high enough to actually get this baby yet.

My Dream Robe
# Apr 12 2002 at 5:23 PM Rating: Decent
My guild has gotten a couple of these for our enchanters. The fight against Nathyn is a long one, because he has amazing ac. Drain his mana and keep hasting the tanks. Drops the robe everytime as far as I know.

As has been said before, 100chr on a robe frees up a lot of slots for an ench to add int/hp/mana/resist gear. Don't knock the 15 str either, I'm sick of being encumbered all the time! And 15 int makes it comparable to velious robes in that stat. High end enchanters are looking for ways to get the most out of their equipment....and this is one easy way!

Killed Nathyn
# Mar 03 2002 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
We killed Nathyn the other night. He's not too hard, just has a ton of hp. Around 1 million or so. It took our group of about 25 ppl around 20 minutes to kill him. Only had 4 clerics, I was one of them, and I finished the fight with about 70 mana left, so he doesnt really put out that much damage compared to other mobs. He's no AoW or Vulak, thats for sure. Nice robe for a chanter.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 28 2002 at 12:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) however, this would be an awsome robe for cleric/Paladin
tons of hp
# Feb 25 2002 at 5:55 AM Rating: Decent
Took us forever to bring him to his knees, I swear the fight lasted at least 14 minutes where we usually take down other mobs like Sontalak in 1-2 minutes.

I'd estimate close to 1,000,000 hp, I'm not exaggerating either.
