Come on folks let us not pretend it helps jack spit.
I don't have to pretend it helps because it will. Take my level 35 mage with a med skill of 180, with this adding +3% to his med that makes it like his skill was 185 (180 x 1.03) so now he's a level 35 but meds like a level 36. Maybe that is not a big help but throw in the other stats too and I'll take it any day. With med skill having a 252 hard cap this will continue to help for several levels yet.
Darn useful item... Its Nice to see some items that noiceably affect your characters strength, that are attainable at these levels, Way to go Verant...
Myself (44 druid) had plenty of trouble getting into the cave once the grimlings took over the owlbear caves... manacrafters and mystics are definetly a problem for casters as they can spell for upwards of 200 and without much resist gear can hurt alot, the gaurds and grunts can be easily soloed but due to the number of other casters getting in is not feesible unless you have a lot of wis and mana. Anyway what I'm trying to say is level to attain should be atleast 40 although a very good group could do this at 35, melee at 45 to 50 shouldnt have much of a problem with good gear and a bit of resist, the manacrafters are enchanters and they do use tishan's clash. And the cap is well worth it if you dont have a KEI or C2 it does make a little bit of difference, not much. Killed Gleek once and he dropped the cap wanted the haste belt for my alt monk sitting in the cave but it didnt work =(
The war is not unpredictable as everyone in the posts states. Its actually quite obvious what starts the wars etc. If you kill one of the 3 factions leaders within 5-10 min a war will begin between the faction's leader whom you killed and another random faction.
This is the second item I've looted that has a medditate skill mod. Does anyone know if they stack, or is it like haste items where the highest percentage is the winner?
The other item is the Brain of the Beaked Owlbear, which fits in the range slot.
The war is unpredictable...the only thing i can say about the zone is spend a little time there and you'll learn the secrets.
This guys spawns in place of one of the named owlbears in the owlbear cave...Seen him pop twice with about 14 PHers. He dropped this Helm once and the 11% haste belt the other time...the best had nice stats, too bad the haste is only 11% =(
As for the grimling that spawns in the place of the other owlbear, he spawns more frequest but only dropped a junk armband for me everytime...a dissappointment. I suspect he has another drop, just wasn't able to steal it from him.
Dropped off Gleeknot Gnitrat in the owlbear caves while the zone was in Grimling control. He was in the chamber to the left where one of the named owlbears usually spawns.
Gleeknot will pop about every 1 out of 3 or 4 spawns.
I have heard is drop rate is 50/50. From about 25 kills, I would have to say the belt tends to drop a LOT more. Once we found out about this, I guild farmed him for belts. He always will drop an item, but from my limited experience, the belt has dropped more. Think our guild looted 4 or 5 caps, and 20+ belts.
Our last camp (9/9/02) in 3 hours we killed him about 6 times - every single time was a belt.
Or there's Murphy's Law - if you want belts, he'll drop the cap!
My guess is that the drop is 50/50, but I've just happened to see when he's dropping belts.
The mob that drops this item only spawns during the latter stages of the triggered Hollowshade War (see quest links). I believe the drop rate was 50/50. He always drops one of 2 items, the other being (if memory serves) a haste belt.
first day luclin came out me (59 dru) and a monk friend went out and was exploring, i dont remember the name of the mob but it was in a cave that this dropped and i got for my druid. *shrug
From the name of the item and the mob I would guess this drops somewhere at the grimling camp. I have killed the chieftain at least 50 times and never seen a Gleeknot Gnitrat anywhere near his hut, so I may be wrong. If anyone knows an exact spawn point it would be much appreciated.
