The dagger is only an intermediate step in a much larger quest that ultimately leads to a very nice Garrison Officers Cloak. Yes, its not a great weapon for all the work but keep in mind that after the dagger is made you are still not done with the quest.

Even if you don't want the cloak the dropped loot during the cloak quests is really pretty good.
Bleah... seems like a lot of hassle for this...

Even for a mid-20s quest, this weapon is horrible for all the niggling trouble you have to go through to get it. It's a good thing you use this weapon for other quests...

You don't just quest for these yourself, you have to get four other Vah Shir to do it *with* you, because you need very specific quest items from all five classes to put these weapons together. Since most of the ingredients for the various class-specific components are NO DROP items, you have to find a Vah Shir from each class, with the appropriate trade skill levels, who have all completed their class quests up to this point, to go out and gather up all of these component ingredients, to make their components, so that you can get a complete set to use for your weapon. That may not be terribly difficult, but it sure seems like a lot of hassle...

For the bards, at least, you need this weapon to continue the bard class quests. Aljuum Mohim asks you to return to him once you have completed the Sonic Wolf Bane weapon, and show him both the weapon and your Cloak of the Jharin Apprentice. He says that he "will have something for you" when you show him these items. I'm hoping for a nice upgrade to the cloak and/or a new quest instrument (wind or brass), since we've already quested for a drum and a lute before we get this far.

On a side note .. you do not have to be a Vah Shir to do these quests. The important thing is the class of character. There is a way to get Vah Shir citizenship by MQing the acrylia slate (for the non kitty) and getting a newbie kitty to do the hand ins up to the hand in of the slate.

Quick Details
Get non kitty to get the Acrylia slate by saying "What Acrylia Slate" from Mignah then go to the registra.

Get a new (disposable) kitty to turn the newbie note into the guildmaster take the application form to the registrar, then to the tax collector. Go back to the registrar and hand the item in. (First part of MQ)

Now switch to non-kitty and hand in the slate.. voila.. note for the king for to make you a non-kitty, kitty citizen. You then take this to the king and continue with the quest as though you were a true Vah Shir.

I have recently done this for a half-elf rogue and it worked fine on 7th Hammer (post GoD). Make sure you do the Kitty part before handing in the slate. The last character to hand in a MQ item gets the reward. If your camping rather than 2 boxing then do it at non busy times so noone else breaks the MQ (as they did with me the first time I tried this).

Full details are posted in by others:Vah Shir Citizenship (#1).I just though I would put them here as a clear up point.

A second side note. I have a Kitty Warrior and Bst and cannot get the other items for the Sonic Wolf Bane weapons (have tried for months!). But have a Rogue and Shammy of other races.. I have MQed the rogue and will do the shammy too. Now I have to make a Bard.. I think Verant needs to re-address this as noone seems to do this quest series any more .. is a shame because it is a nice series.. apart from the making of the weapon.

For everyone commenting on how horrible this weapon is for the amount of questing involved, remember that these quests not only provide this weapon but also a very nice cloak with decent stats. The cloak actually continues to get upgraded well past the creation of this weapon in subsequent quests. And, as mentioned before, it provides a great opportunity to improve one's tradeskills, too.

I don't believe the weapon stats itself is what the quests were meant for you to be proud of...it's the fact that you achieved the quests to get it. Yea...the stats aren't that great, but look at all the skill ability you raised and think of how you felt when you finally completed this progressive quest. It's just something to personally be proud of. :)

Actually, the claws for the beastlords the complete this quest aren't nearly so bad.
sonic wolf bane claws: damage 10, delay 32, +2 vs sonic wolves. The dagger and spear are same, and effectively become 7/21 against sonics, while being 4/21 normal. The claws as you can see are 10/32, very decent for a H2H weapon at this point (keeping in mind, non-twinks), and 12/32 vs sonics, which is cooler still.

Now just need some Owlbear bane dmg to go with the earplugs that grant immunity to owlbear screech (a few more steps down the road in this quest, www.eqtraders.com for more info)

the quest is so involved and so intriguing that i almost passed out when i saw this was the reward, i realize it is prolly built upon later but .. but.. this is just not good.

ya lol sux big... some weapons with bane dmg give it a way better ratio then a weapon without it.... but in most scenarios its best to stick to the tried and true weapons... lamentation or whatever you prefer (cause this is 5 21 with bane... a blackjack beats that by 2 dmg without bane and is alot less complicated to get one) might be a dead end weapon people think verant is gonna add upon but dont...

That's not quite right - against the right sort of creature, the Bane number adds to the damage number of the weapon directly -- so, against Sonic Wolves, this is a 7/21 weapon. Given that the quests are intended for 20ish characters, that's pretty decent.
Not a drop

At the moment, it says "This item is found on creatures" up above. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, because it isn't. This is the result of the sonic wolf bane weapons quest, which requires the cooperation of each class of vah shir doing their respective tradeskills.
