I picked this and the robe the mob drops as it was rotting on his corpse and no one else wanted it. As a magician I can pull out my sarnak dagger and hit with this haste and proc with blaze when Im out of mana in grouping situations.
I know casters dealing melee dmg is controversial, but I know when I'm out of mana I don't equip a melee weap and start swinging! I usually meditate my mana. Until they raise the cap on Pure caster 1hb I think I'll keep my melee in the bag.
on Firiona Vie, Blackmaul Crusaders proudly defeated The Va'Dyn and got 2 of these shields off of him. none of our wizzies, magicians, or enchanters were with us so a paladin won it in the roll. Congrats to Hammerhand and to whoever got the other one!
this shield + pebble crusher (stun) + a wizzys concussion spell (300 or 400 hate point reducer 25 mana 1 second cast) after every proc is kinda neat in a exp group. If it's stunned it's not hitting the tank and if it's concussioned it's not hitting the wizard either. Plus with the dmg bonus for 2hs anyone without dual wield shouldn't be using a 1 hander and a shield anyways they should use a non held haste item and a 2hs or you're cutting potential damage
Just got this last night off Va'Dyn. Bout time he dropped it, we've killed him umpteen times and never dropped it. Was nice to get rid of the glowy hand look (Velk's Orb) and have something that looks nice, unique, and has good stats.
The look is the giant square shield with the dual-dragon head design you see on the back of Iksar robes, with a large round blue sapphire in the middle-top area. Same as the Tae Ew Shield.
Oh, and another thing... Damn this shield is huge... I think I could serve my whole guild a nice turkey dinner off it. Everyone in the guild affectionately calls it anything from "Breakfast Table" to "Card Table" to "Big Freakin Shield"
Anyway, very nice shield, haste comes in at 41% according to Magelo.
And for the people whining "Wahhhhh it has haste, it should be a melee item"... it isn't a melee item, it was meant to not be a melee item. Whining in open forums won't do anything. If it'll make you happy, write up VI or SOE and complain to them. Maybe they'll nerf the haste. Or you could just get a grip.
I mean, while we're at it, why don't you start saying that nobody should get Loot X unless they can use every single solitary stat on it?
a) It's a game b) It's called class balancing c) Haste is a fun effect for a pure caster to have d) It's a game e) Have fun with the game and quit complaining about it f) It's a game

You sir are a fool. For starters, you hate VERANT, not verent. And more so you hate Sony Entertainment Online even more than Verant if you really think about it. Now, as for you thinking just because the item has stats that may be good for one class it does not mean it should be so. Obviously, you don't take class balancing nor roleplaying into account in any way what so ever. ANY class in the game is capable of and at some time or another is forced to melee. Fact is, there is little hope of the classes who can use this sheild ever getting the chance at a haste item aside from buying one in the bazaar. I for one am all for this item and all of the other non-melee items out there. At this time I think it would also be important to point out that the only character I have ever played or will ever plas as is infact a warrior.
I dunno.. Hmmm. .Here's my outlook on pure caster haste items and then my hypothetical situation.
As a chanty, I love it when the atmosphere in the groups I'm in is casual and controlled enough for me to nuke and or melee ( since I get to do so much of each. .=) ). I know my nuking and melee dmg is about as useful as .. well nothing.. but it's FUN to be able to do it every now and then. .It makes me ( and a few other chanties, who get bored on raids when we double, and triple up ) giggle.
Anyway.. as for the hypothetical situation..
Let's see..
This item ( or my Tola's Robe ) + Skull Shaped Wand ( the one that procs Ice Comet )+ Boon of the Garou + A few select buffs from a friendly shaman ( dex and maybe a few others ) + Epic haste = a whole new way for me to be one of the first dead party members.. WOOT.. no more deaths from anxious melees breaking mezz on all 5 of my mobs ( yes it still happens.. /sigh ).. hehe I get to EARN my death this time... lol
Please keep in mind this hypothetical is contingient upon me actually hitting the mob (unless proc can still occur even on misses ) Otherwise I'd just be keeping everone in the room cool with the "breeze" my slew of " wiff wiff wiff " is producing. =P
Aye, you can proc any melee weapon from spell casting range. I do this on large raids when I am waiting to run under its belly and nuke the snot outta it. I just stand back, target and turn auto attack on, I usually get 1-2 procs off before I run in to cast. And btw, this can pull aggro OVER the MA, so only do it if you know for certain the MA has a ton of aggro, and your proc doesn't generate alot of aggro. If not, you get summoned, smacked a couple times, then appear naked at bind. And yes, since you are out of melee range, you do NOT generate aggro from having auto attack on, you only get aggro from missing when your toon actually swings. You only generate melee aggro from 1) hitting, 2) missing, and yer toon actually swings, and 3) procing.

All i have to say is NO MELEE CLASSES!!!! its about time that we casters are able to get a cool item with haste on it withought haveing to fight every melee class for it.. and before i get flamed , i know that haste is useless for casters but DAMN we never cool stuff like this 8).. Gratz to anyone who has this item.
Heh, I won this a few weeks ago. What's even cooler than the 41% haste is that it's about as big as me!! Very cool grapic for the shield. the haste doesn't benefit me practicly...it's just fun for those boring groups with few adds.

It's very usefull if your primary hand has a usefull effect like Theft of Thought. Or if your a necro like I am. Haste+Necro Vamp Embrace+fast weapon=no casting life taps. Of course you only want to do this if you can't sit to med on a raid and you know how to manage aggro, or your a brave fear kiter.
hehe look up that tolapumj's robe, caster only with haste ;) darn good haste from what i hear, something like 40 percent /shrug but im not sure. right now on fen i have a 15/30 2hb staff, and against noober mobs, i dont have to waste mana, cause i can melee pretty good!!
Haste is not useless, just not nearly as useful as it is for melees. I usually melee while gathering tailoring components (my pet does a better job, but I still melee), I melee to fend off aggressive greenies, and it gives me something productive to do when I have to much aggro to sit down while grouped.
i agree with you very much on this.. in fact its almost a very good thing for a soloing wizzy to have some sort of backup hand to hand.. just in case.. how many times have you been down to 0m with a mob almost dead lol.. think of this.. u carry an extra item on you thats like a few of the items for wizzys in the game like 24 - 40 staff .. two hand blunt .. yea.. ur str sux.. but who says it has to?,... my wizzy carrys items for all sorts of different stuff.. from resistance which is obvious .. to dex for crits .. and str for massive carrying and a lil extra staff in the **** power lol.. and not to mention a haste item.. trust me.. it makes things go aloooot smoother! wiz of the 53rd season seventh hammer
On a Chardok Herbalist raid, we had way too many folks there, so I started goofing around. I was hitting dark blue /cons for around 40 to 50 damage with my epic. Sure, I'd miss alot, but...
Granted, caster melee in a serious situation is pretty silly, but it does help for playing whack-a-mole in newbie zones.
The Va'Dyn drops this shield in Ahkeva. I am assuming it is one of his rare drops not common like posted as I have been on almost a dozen Va'Dyn kills and this is the first shield I have seen.
I have been looking at some of the luclin weapons with godly dmg/dly and armor/sheilds with godly ac being put on priest/caster items and even haste on them hehe (not flaming or complaining i think its great and will be fun for priests/casters) hehe maybe Vi wants you weaklings to actually pitch in for a change = ) (joking)
It's true. Cast time / Refresh time / etc. on spells is hastened (albeit very VERY slightly) by Haste effects on items. Haste has nowhere NEAR as viewable a difference on cast time as it does on weapon delays. It's one reason why caster items with Haste effects have such great Haste percentages -- not to make tanks cry and complain, but to create enough of a difference to become effective.
Why do people complain if a stat is added to an item?
If it didnt have haste, everyone would be like, "nice item, great stats etc." But add haste and people are all upset... WHO CARES if it has haste. Would you rather it didnt have it? When i loot an item (as a mage) that has 6int and 6wis and is pure caster only, I am not all upset that it has 6wis...
Get over it already. This shield has haste. Why? Does it matter?
i care, it's pretty friggin ridiculous to put haste on caster gear..theres tons of better things they could be putting on there, like major destruction... :)
It is really nice to see some caster stuff finally dropping. Verant said that they would do this but I wondered if it would really happen seems like it is. The haste is not the best thing about this, the stats are great for casters.
