tryed to duo with 2 druid. 9k mana and 7k mana, got him to 50%, 9k was at 50% mana, 7k (healing) was at 50%, no kei. Then he fell off the ledge and agroed the spell casters. Had to evac. This dude is no joke he hits for about 60 to 170, and he has 2 guards around him, hit for the same. Spell caster nuked and hit for 300+. Couldnt get snare off on em, 9k mana druid was tanking with time hammer. Hes got a ton of hp and hits fast and hard, but if u can keep him on the ledge and are pretty well buffed, he is pretty east.

Ok, I was just starting my bard after a 2 year break, the game was completely different.....
I go a tell from a lvl 70 Bard named Mortenson.Lucky Me. He told me to follow him.I recognized the zone as Shadowhaven when we wandered through a hidden entrance. We zoned into Echo Caverns and grped with a 70 Clr and Shaman...he pulled him, they slayed him, and i was happy.

Skip forward about oooh, id say 38 levels...I still sent him tells and asked him questions.
We found a low level guy, and went to Shadowhaven then Echo, This time he soloed Jared, was quite impressive. After he killed him and the dorf looted it, he said was his 901 screenshot of it...Wow....
So ive come to the state of mind that Mortenson is a altogether great guy..still using sword at lvl 44, thanks tons Mort!

I had the chance to Witness Mortenson soloing the General the other day for some wood elf with no armor. When I asked him about it he had mentioned that he had killed the guy nearly 500 times in the last 8 months for random newbies ! :) Amazing

I think Mortenson would be happy to help you get yours too if you send him a tell

hail all,
i have a lvl 13 ranger on luclin sever and i have the sword. here is how i got it.
I was in pok one day and i was thinking about deleting my ranger i play my necro more so i don't realy need him so while i was in the bank in pok i said/ooc want to sell dark ember for 50 plat. i got a reply for a lvl 70 bard he said do u need plat that much? i said yes because i need to get my necro some good int and mana items. so he came to the bank and gave me 259 plat for the dark ember and then he asked me what sword i had i said i have a ornate rune blade a good 2hs weapon for me it hits for 32, but back to the story he said thadt sword sux so he said he would he me get a good one i was like realy? he said yep just follow me i said ok lets go so we went to nexus and then to shaweavers thickit then to echo caverns when i got in he said don't move around to much because my lag was real bad and i might go LD so i sat by the wall when he said he had a friend comeing to help us so to my supprise it was a lvl 70 Cleric. so when he got there my bard friend went to pull the general i thought this would be cake because they were both lvl 70 boy was i wrong. the first fight the cleric died trying to take argo for the bard the the bard pulled some defenders to help because of the clashing factions they help a little but not a lot then the bard died so i zone out tto wait for them to get back and when they got back this time the bard pull him again and the cleric didn't hit him at all he just complete healed about 7 times to the bard and poof he was DEAD i said Yes my new sword! and that is how i got it if u want proof get on luclin and send a tell to dillen. i havent got to try it out but he said it will be a good sword to duel weild with my centi shortsword. his name was Mortnson lvl 70th bard so mabey he will help u ok well i got to go guyz cya.
P.S. this guy hits had every time he hit it was for like 259 pionts and he kicks for 90 so becareful

This is my first post so sorry if it is a stupid question. Is this item still availabel as a drop from the general? Rumors are flying already that the Pale Velium claws from GoD are on the nerf list and this has similar stats. Would like to get this for my Ranger. Thanks.

On the pale velium, first, they are NEW. Second, the 1hb is 10/22, the 1hs is 10/22. The H2H was 5/11. Maddoc 9sony developer) posted on eqtraders that the H2H ratios were a mistake.

Now, on to this weapon. It was introduced in LUCLIN, it is nto new. It has a delay of 18. Its a drop, not a smithed item. Its no drop.

Honestly, I seriously doubt they would see fit to nerf this. 10/18 isn't nearly as good as 5/11.

The SOE Devs posted on EQTraders that they will be changing the Pale Velium Cestus (whos stats were NOT similar). They had an insanely fast delay. like 5dmg 11dly.

I doubt theres any reason they would nerf this sword.

General Downed
# Nov 19 2003 at 7:40 AM Rating: Good
We did him last night. And the other posts were right, i've read not to take him lightly but i got a little cocky and then i found out just how nasty he is.
We did him with:
65druid
65mage
57bard
56shaman
60paladin(me)

The mage had to zone at first due to agro from other guards, so we didnt have much dps at first. This guy cant be slowed or Snared so we just to just tank and dps. He hits friggen hard and fast so you need a good tank. I had 2.9k unbuffed and 1050ish ac unbuffed. Preferably better than that to tank him because i needed constant cheals from the druid.
He hits, from what i saw, anywhere from 98-260's very fast.
---the pull---
ok, the 2 buddys he has beside him can easily be *Pacifyd* then you just pull him (i did with taunt) to zone, if you jump down and avoid other mobs, you'll only pull him to the zoneline & a little gnome called master something. After you zone once they hit the zoneline, he starts to head back first before the gnome, so instead of fighting him in his room (fear of the other guys in his room) we grabbed him right when he entered the larger cave, and turned left and pulled him along the wall where no mobs were. By then the gnome was still several feet behind him and around the corner so he could not see him getting pulled. Then, have at it !
btw, by the time the druid got the last cheal in he was oom and we had to finish him off without heals, i was down to 47% when he was killed. If i hadn't been stunning often as i was, i believe that we would have wiped, or i would have as they ran for the zoneline =P.

There is a Marshall Galron in the fort behind the fort with the general, I'm thinking he can be charmed. He is level 61 so it would require a 64+ enchanter. His max hit is 346 I think and he can be snared. He's a hard one to snare. Thing is I don't know for sure if he summons. I've been told mobs only summon after so much damage, I've seen mobs summon off very little damage done. This one has a mega amount of hp though so I can't do very much damage. Anyway in the damage I've done to him he hasn't summoned me. If you are going to try this I would suggest bringing a long a shaman to Malo cause if he resists snare a lot his mr might pose a problem. Now that I think bout it it's seems like a bad idea but if anyone is game I'ld like to know bout it.

"I've been told mobs only summon after so much damage"

At 52 or 53 I decided to see if I could take on Veltar in Dreadlands. I got him down to 98% with my chants, and decided it was taking too long (took a few ticks for him to go down even 1%, with every chant on him), and went to zone. Then I began getting summoned. SO maybe they just summon when they really want you near them.

The couple of times I've taken part in fights against Jared Blaystitch I'm a lvl59 shaman, but fought him at lvl 57 and 58 I can confirm he is immune to slow, I dotted and kept mana for Ghetto healing 2nd time I had dogdog for added DPS, both times I fought him we got the 2 assassin protectors as adds we split tanked them, all in all an enjoyable fight and a nice sword. As a side note since I had destroyed my faction here I decided to return for some solo action.8) The Sconds outside the main building and the trainer building (bottom left of zone)are still dark blue at 59 and are a very easy kill.) be warned though I thought I'd pull a few inside the trainer building, first one I pulled was LB but hell I was AA exping, looked like a single pull till I turned round at camp close to the secret door. I suddenly realized I had pulled 2 I did'nt have time to con the add but after a quad of 300+ I thought I best bail! by the time I'd reached the secret door I was dead. so if you decide to kill the Sconds don't get carried away and start pulling from inside the building.

Happy hunting.)

Single Pull
# Jan 24 2003 at 4:47 AM Rating: Decent
Easiest way to single pull is to have a high level (ours was level 60) non-kos enchanter. The two assassins beside the general can be pacified (I think she said she had to use the aoe pacify though). To pacify the four masters at the bottom, the enchanter stands near them, targets herself, and casts the aoe pacify. Do this a couple times just to be on the safe side, pull the general, and voila! We've done this guy a number of times now and with the above trick have never had problems single pulling him.

He can't be rooted or snared (get the immune message) by players, but our mage's earth pet was able to root him.

Took him yesterday. Tried pulling casters to FG first, and got wiped several times. Then we tried another strategy. You need:
1. A sacrifice.
2. A dark elf mule. They got apprehensive faction.

First get 2 scounds up front out of the way (easy)
Then have sacrifice aggro entire room: General, casters, guards, and run to far corner of cave. SW corner works well. Even if sacrifice is a monk, a timely FD is very hard to do, cause casters keep casting, and if a spell lands after you FD, it picks you up.
Once sacrifice is successfully FD or dead, the mobs start back to their place. No dark elf runs up, and starts hailing everyone but General.
Hailing will make mobs stop, look at you, mouth off a greeting, and stand there for a while. Keeping all of them 'hail mezzed' is real trivial.
Once General walks back to his place, pull him single to staging area. Now, whoever was doing the hailing, camps the mule, and joins the fight.
Trivial.

Took him down this morning.
65 Pal, 61 Rng, 63 Rng, 60 Rng, 64 Dru, 64 Enc

Basically just invis, run up and charge him, mezz the 3 to 4 guards around him and just tank him. He has a ton of hp so it was a long fight. Then succor out after he dies.

I've been researching this sword for a couple of months now and finally got some peeps together to take him down. This guy is one tough cookie, no doubts there. We had originally planned on pulling the trainers to FG, then pulling the general and two druids snaring the assassins while the main puller brought the General to our camp. Then casting CoH on the two druids and trainer puller. While we were waiting for our mage to show our GL (55 epic monk) was going over the pull with the other three and decided to try something a little different. The first monk pulled the trainers and drew them to the back corner of the cave and directly after that the main puller argo'd the General and pulled the three of them over by the SH zone line. The first monk then /q to loose argo and then relogged back on. Now I don't know just how good our GL is as a monk compared to other but IMO he's a god. For some reason he was on a mission. He had to split the general from his guards, out of pride, curiosity or plain stubbornness. Needless to say he did it, and fairly quickly too, in about 5 minutes. A little quicker then we had figured or were ready for. We had everyone buffed up and in place (in the mutant caves just down from the SH zone) but our heavy hitters hadn't showed up yet. We took this guy on strait melee and let me tell ya something, it must have been a 15 minute fight. We had two full groups;

54 War
51 War
53 SK
51 Pally
56 Bst
55 Mnk
51 Mnk
56 Clr
54 Clr
57 Dru
51 Dru
34 Dru (He was in charge of keeping the rock door open during the pull and did one hell of a job)
54 Shm

In the confusion of the early pull we forgot to Nullify magic on him which would have made it a lot easier. All in all we only lost two peeps (51 Pally who drew too much argo from Lay of Hands) and the Shammy who tried to slow. Both clerics and all the druids were OOM from heals (the clerics got down to the point where they were trading off CH's (One would be OOM and by the time the other cast CH and started to mem the other would have just enough for another CH just in the nick of time, both had KEI btw). Even our door man was chain casting greater healing, which probably saved our skins more times then we know. Of course about 5 minutes after we took him down and we we're celebrating with the standard "grats" and "good team work guys" etc, etc, the casters started showing up. Figures, friggen casters. =p

Anyway, good fight, a lot of fun and an awesome sword AND he can be split from his guards by a monk.

My guild just did this on The Nameless Server! After being wiped out within a minute or two on our first attempt, we decided to change our strategy from fighting him at his loc (bad idea). This is how we did it:

1. Take your entire raiding party to a small cave just down the way from SH zone away from the trainer camp.

2. Have someone aggro all the mobs on the bottom floor and run them to FG zone line.

3. Then have MT aggro General while someone snares his 2 guards. MT will run General to the cave and the fight is on. A single pull on the General!

Very, Very easy this way! We lost nobody on this attempt and a nice sword was awarded to one of our Warriors!

He is General Jared Blaystich. He resides in Echo caverns in a building with 4 caster trainers. He has been changed since some of those single groups have done him.A single group can still do him but you better have it together. We did him on a regular basis til our small guild was equiped with his weapon.I have personally been in on his kill 4 times. We did it with 2 groups 10 to 12 people every time.Judging from the dmg done by each person he is closer(at least now) to 100k hps than the 30k previusly posted. We have found the best way to kill him is to first have a person run in and take the HTs from his 2 friends, then kill the 2 guards out front, then have someone train the 4 caster trainers over to fungus grove, then pull the general and his guards over into the corner opposite the sk/rogue trainer place.Mez the 2 guards let main tank get agro and back into the corner. If the main tank is not in the corner they will get blown all over the zone by the generals spell or proc.He cannot be slowed by chanter or shammy. After main tank has agro everyone else join in and beat him down.
Be prepared for a long fight he has a ton of hps.

The groups we had consisted of this:60necro 57ranger 56war 56chanter 55cleric 55wizzy 55SK 54war 52dru 52cleric 48dru 44SK

The necro was really key in some of the battles not just for all his massive dmg but for dumping to the chanter as she would run out of mana keeping the 2 guards mezzed and would have to rehaste near end of battle

note: the general was different after first time we did him he was much harder, then after 3rd time we did him he could see invis.Verant is still tinkering with him apparently.
Anyways I hope this helps :)

General Jared Blaystich - he is on Haven Smugglers faction along with his guards, banker, and evil caster trainers around him. Looks to be about a 500 point faction hit (wow) for killing him, for example from kindly to indifferent, or from amiably to dubiously. If you are starting apprehensively or dubiously with those guys, you'll become KoS by killing him.

Haven Smugglers got worse
Lake Recondite Bandits got worse
House of Fordel got better

Our guild has 4 or 5 of these swords. But they are not so easy anymore. Our normal group that used to kill him easly didn't even get close today.
I hope they only upgraded the general and left the sword alone....
Truthly it was only a mater of time untill they changed this one way or the other.

Has anyone else ever noticed as soon as a number of post are made about how easy something is to do. Or how you should bring a twink and loot some item, the item becomse much rarer or the mob becomse much stonger....

I'm just glad I got one before the general found the steroids ;)

Was talking to the cleric that had the spawn timed and was getting these for our melee's in the guild today.

He has killed him since the change, according to him you need one really solid group with two clerics to handle him. The pull is a lot trickier than it was before. Think he said the general sees through invis now.

# Mar 31 2002 at 12:16 AM Rating: Decent
Confirmed, they beefed him up.

Can't "gimp" pull him anymore, hits faster, harder, and procs a knockback.

VI always does this after an expansion. Remember when Kunark came out? Some of the easy items to get are either gone or put on dragons now.

I don't know whether they overlook an item and how easy it is to get or if it's a ploy to get people to buy the expansion before the price drops and go there asap.

Actually they didnt touch the sword. My guild has killed him a few times since he was upgraded. Now he hits for about 267dmg max and fast, need to dispell him because someone casts VoG on him i believe. He has the same amount of hitpoints but you have to pull him. I did it with a druid, snared the assassins and zoned out with general and his caster friends on me, on the way back to his spawn a monk tagged and pulled him to a safe spot and we owned him, he has a knockback now though, so get your back to a wall. Stats of the sword are the same, they just think they made it too easy to get.

Please disregard this post, this sword does NOT have +5 ac, either before or after the nerf. I've talked to people who got the sword both before and after (I got mine before, heh), and there is no 5 ac on this. There is another sword with similar stats, and possibly a similar name, that has 5 ac, and I think the above poster got that sword mixed up with this one.

Think that might be the Mithril Edged Short Sword. Hard to tell but the mithril might even be easier to get than this thing with, in many situations, better stats :)

EDIT: Should have right-clicked, open new window, look up stats on the mithril - the stats are definitely superior. It should be noted that both are no drop.

I forgot the other day I was looking this up for a friend on Vallan and posted under his account.

We just killed him again for a ranger who wanted a good non-proc weapon for raids to hold down the aggro over his earthcaller.

He was 56 and killed the one add, I tanked the general at 58 with my warrior, and the same 60 cleric did the healing.

Yes it can be done with 3 people, he might hit fast but his max hit was 140 and he doesn't dual wield since he has that no rent sheild in his hand. Buffed up I can take 30 max hits and most of the time he was hitting well under that.

Of course a lot has to do with the cleric having flowing thought 3, a massive mana pool (one of the best on the server I am told), and a lot of AA points.

Too, bad you can't post screenshots, I would more than be happy to log the fight and post a screenshot for ya!

Both of these posters are right . . . in a way. Prior to March 19th, this mob could be taken with some degree of difficulty, by three very well equiped people. As you can see in my post below, prior to March 19th, he had approx. 35khp, hit for a max of 157, and didn't cast spells or anything. The Assassin Protectors were REAL easy, they only hit for like 37. But now, after March 19th, he has officially been wacked with the nerf stick. The sword remains the same, but Verant definitely upped the General. He is still level 55, but he now hits for about 270+, and fast. He procs a knockback spell, and I talked with someone who fought him, and he is thought to have either over 100khp, or an insane regen rate, which is possible. So it may be advisable to put some major DoTs on him to counter regen. I know people who have failed to kill him with over 3 groups of 55+. I also know of people who have killed him with a group of 5 level 60's with ToV equipment. So he is very hard. IMO, by the time you are able to kill him, the sword will be sub-par for your tank or ranger, unless you are twinking out a lower level 50 character, or something.

One thing I noticed being a non-ogre is that he does stun me a lot. But by building aggro tanking him while the other melee kills the add on the pull, you have more than enough aggro built up to keep him from turning when all get on the General.

Oh, and one more thing. Damage Bonus changes dependant on the level of the player who has the sword, Mr. Smarty. Why don't you try knowing something about the game you are playing before you spout inaccurate information on it for other players to be mislead by. kthx.

Spawn rate: approx 24 hours

Can be done with one cleric and two melee. Need the second melee to handle the add.

YES IT ONLY TAKES 3 PEOPLE AND CAN BE DONE WITH TWO! Go ahead and flame, it's the truth.

I did it at 58 as the warrior in a mix of cobalt/kael and POS other items, had a 60 monk and cleric in full Kael gear and all the nice slot items besides. Cleric had run 3 and was the root puller.

We got it timed and our melee's standing inline with the 60 cleric camped there. When he gets low on hp's, the main tank discs and the cleric zones so he doesn't go KOS. I dropped from indifferent to dubious with those mobs and went to amiably in Shadowhaven.

Was about a 15-20 minute fight.
