thorny vine armour
# Aug 30 2004 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
why is it that the halfling rangers cannot wear any of the thorny vine armour. we are, rangers also. did they come up with alternative armour for halflings?

if they have, will you email me at sunchaserunicor&excite.com and tell me what the alternative armour is.(subject line--eq armour for halfling)

I am unclear of this, but I don't think there was always a halfling ranger, I think they made halfling rangers when velious came out or something, so when this zone first came out there was no such thing as halfling rangers. That is just a guess with some of the knowledge I might have heard.

This reply is 4 years in the making and here it is.
Correct. Originally Halflings could not be rangers,
or paladins for that matter. Just as Gnomes could not
be Shadow Knights or Paladins either.
I find that odd since Halflings could be clerics and druids
and Gnomes could be necromancers and clerics, but
not their respective hybrid classes.
Ah well, Halflings look silly as rangers anyway.
Their bows are bigger than they are.

Shackles came out after Thorny in Fear, so of course they're better. After all, why would you expand equipment possibilities in a huge game? Just make more, harder-to-get, higher-end stuff!

Thorny Vine is barely better than most of the stuff you can get otherwise, even in the Old World only. And this bracer? Pfah, it's got the same AC as a very-easy-to-camp-quest-bracer (Hero).

Stamina and Wisdom are important, but not that hard to get. Agility? Even easier.

Lets see, attend often-fatal Fear raids to kill five mobs which rarely drop this item, or whack a single non-caster mob...decisions, decisions.

Ahh the bliss of being on carebear servers, come to Rallos Zek and you will appreciate every little stat on a no-drop piece of gear!

the posts before are true. its not always about the stats. i want to get a full suit of TV mainly for the fact that it is ranger only armor and looks nice. i am a 44 ranger using a full suit of ivy etched merely for the fact that i like questing for my gear. Earning and wearing class specific armor and weapons just adds a nice fullfilling element to the game.
well thats my thoughts anyways. main thing is to remember to have fun.

It's the thought of earning it. Hero can be bought. Honor is also part of being a ranger. Not just "how good my ac is" its all about earning the right to say "I earned this" not "picked it up in FP for 150PP.

By the time most rangers get to the point where they can raid fear, they will have better armour. Especially with the ever dropping prices of Crystal Chitin and other such nice AC ranger armours. Even so, I am still trying to collect a set of this to use for non-combat occasions as plate looks so much better on a wood elf than chain with the new models and all that velious quest armour now looks like coloured chain :(

I prefer my ice foraged shackles to these, not only do the shackles have better melee stats and AC and less weight, you can cast velium shards with them :).
