Does the writ disappear once used?
For example, if I used it for a tank merc, will I be able to use it again and later exchange for a dps or healer?

The writ once used.. enables you to buy mercs from the jack-o-lantern npc in pok. Its the same as any other merc merchant. Once you are able to use his services... you can disband your merc and get a different type from the merchant at any time.
as of Halloween 2010 ... all 4 merc types can be bought from the scarecrow vendor after finishing this quest and using the writ.

according to today's game update, it now gives the title "the gravedigger" rather than "the haunted".
click on this then you can buy a scarecrow merc from the vendor near blightfire stone in pok.
I have reviewed both the Halloween Merc quest, the scarecrow merc tank, and the blue skelly for cleric.
It is sad, that the only way to fully complete either task, is by SOE getting some more of your hard earned cash.
The scarecrow quest requires marketplace purchase for title, and the skelly quest is not a quest at all, but requires you to get 3 LoN cards either through getting lucky with your 5 free booster packs (yea like that is going to happen), or by buying booster packs and opening them in hopes of loot cards.
Sad, sad, sad. Most of us would be fine with some long quest to achieve both, like the Timeshear quest which is still broken btw SOE thanks, but no go get your credit card out, and maybe you can have these items.

that's lame, got my hopes up for nothing, wasted 5 days for a bloody scarecrow merc? My enchanter can make him look a reg merc that way. bullspit
I'm a monk that uses a cleric merc, with no plans to ever use a tank merc. So it's looking like I wasted my time with this as well. Unless the scarecrow has something to offer that the other tank mercs don't, besides appearance, then it seems like a waste of time to me. Now if the quest would have been for different Halloween themed mercs, and different classes, then it might have been worth it.
Ok after petitioning the fact that the click didnt add a title, I got this back from the GM:
I'm afraid the Frightening Writ, doesn't grant a tile. The description on this item is wrong, which the dev team has been informed. As for other type's of scarecrow merc's we haven't heard anything from dev as to the possibility of adding others.

this item is used to aquire the scarecrow merc (tank), it does not grant the suffix "The Haunted". the item description was mixed up on accident by the Devs. the title is available for purchase in the marketplace.

Well after completeing this quest arc you reciece the writ which implies you right click it and get a new title but upon doing so didnt see any new 1s when u hit shift T , but you are able to speak with scarecrow merc liasion now and purchase a "TANK" merc appropiate to your current void flag !

This appears to be broken right now; the suffix doesn't show up in my suffix window. Others have mentioned the same thing on the eqplayers forums. Hopefully this'll be fixed with the next patch.
