I'm an Ogre Warrior at LvL 39,

I got the J-boots yesterday on my own and solo'd the Ancient Cyclops EASY. He didn't bring me down past 70% of my HP. Considering he was a dark blue and dropped 30pp that's a pretty sweet deal.

I'm not a tweak either! Earned everything I use. He was in South Ro, but didn't spawn until about 12-1am.

Everything they say about 8pm game time is true. at 8pm, kill the guy outside the tower, and it will be random, but thats definately the trigger. has worked 2 out of 2 times that he popped right after the 8pm kill. Good luck all

After strolling though SRo for maybe an hour one night we decided to try the cyclops in OOT. After killing like 3 placeholders, the cyclops spawned (I would saw 15 minutes after we arrived). My druid buddy and I easily kited him around his island and I got my ring. Total time was probably 30-45 minutes.

AC spawn
# Feb 13 2003 at 10:21 AM Rating: Decent
Not to gloat, I'm just so darned happy -- I ran my 52 cleric out to SRO and the AC showed up in five minutes! Got the ring.

The thing I wanted to tell you is that there is no clue as to when he spawns or what kills will precede his appearance. I've read them all and in my case he spawned just BEFORE the Terrorantula (or whatever the named tarantula is called,) and not after as has been reported.

Good luck!

I went to OOT to hunt Seafurbies and wasn't going to try for the AC camp since the servers were scheduled to go down at 6am EST and it was already about 2:45am. After hunting for about an hour the guy that had the AC camp announced he got his ring and the camp was now open so I thought, what the heck, and decided to take it. As I approach the island I see the shape of a clops appear out of the rain and mist so I conned him. I was absolutely stunned....the AC had actually spawned twice in a row and the other guy had already left. In under 2 minutes I had my ring and in amazed joy announced that once again the AC camp was open. I've never heard of the AC EVER spawning twice in a row but I guess when they say he's a random spawn, they mean it!!!

AC down
# Sep 22 2002 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
Hey there so you want to camp the AC. Well good luck. I have camped him twice both times i used the same way to hunt him down.

1. Be sure hardley no one is in zone. Best time to do this is earlier in the morning. I am on Japan time so it is great for me to camp him when i get off work. Do it on a weekday less people on then.

2. Be sure to have a class that can track. It will save you much time.

3. Kill all rare spawns. Things that have differnt names than everthing else like "dessert madman" not "a dessert madman"

4. Kill the sand gaints.

5. Both times i have done this he spawned right after killing hussen. A named Sand Gaint

5. Both times i have gotten the ring it took 2-3 hrs of camping. So be ready to wait for a while.
i can find hasten every time I try
# Sep 08 2002 at 8:05 PM Rating: Decent
Hasten, is an easy find, everytime I have seen him he is running around in circles near The Feerott, I have no idea why people haven't caught on to that, I have seen him in that spot 8 out of 8 times I have been there

And Jeroo is right

Sometime Hasten will get stuck on the zone walls. That's why.

Get a Druid, Ranger or Bard.

Rather than chasing Hasten all over creation, the easy way is to have a ranger or druid track him. When they find him, they ensnare him and bring him back to you. Don't be grouped when they do this.

He's darned fast, so a druid with sow and track is perfect for finding him.

RE: MQ

MQ refers to Multi Quest. Multiple people can gather items for a quest and turn them in seperately. The last person to turn in the needed item will obtain the quest reward. Haven't read down the rest of the postings yet, so sorry if info is repetetive, but Ring of the Ancients pertains to Journeyman Boots quest and is able to be MQ'd.
no PH no triggger

Walk into the zone at night fall and hope he pops, if he don't come back next night fall, random night time pop. Seen people do all the little pos tricks and it doesn't spawn and then no one does nething the next full day and it spawns and vice versa, so just wait with a tracker

Sorry, that's definitely wrong. He is a random rare spawn. Day or night doesn't matter.

I've gotten actually decent at getting him to spawn... his placeholders are rares: a madman, a crypt mummy, etc. Rares spawn pretty fast, so if you keep killing them, you'll get him to spawn eventually.

By killing rares, I've gotten him to spawn every time within two hours of starting. However, the big problem with this zone is the ks'ing. There's enough high-levels porting in and out that if someone happens to see the AC before you do, they can burn him down faster that you can try to type, "The AC is mine!"
RE: no PH no triggger
# Oct 10 2002 at 3:54 AM Rating: Decent
I know this is extremely late but I just camped the AC in SRO the other day and had a problem with another guild trying to get it at the same time, i camped from 7pm est till almost 4am est, killing everything in sight, espescially the rares. Took almost 9 hrs for the damn thing to spawn and when it did the other guild was gone but a random necro saw it and killed it, not really needing the ring. However, he was nice enough to MQ with me and 2 hrs later, 11 hrs after starting to camp in SRO and 12 hrs after signing in, I had my journeyman boots and boy are they sweet to have when you have no SOW. Late at night my time, OOT is sometimes empty for campers but I had good luck in SRO as long as you are willing to spend lots of time there and can get your guild or lots of your friends down there to help, KS'ing shouldn't be too much of a problem. but yes, always have a tracker! or you will not get the AC.

After 3 weeks of camping this creep in South Ro, a level lost, and a server crash; I finally got him to spawn yesterday in South Ro and thanks to my friend Redvalan 45th Druid of Guardians of the Crystal Rose (Solusek Ro Server) we took him and SG Husan down in record time. It was right after the Server crashed, however he was owned and victory was claimed. Now to find Hasten ;-)

MQ the jboots
# Apr 07 2002 at 9:01 AM Rating: Excellent
Is it possible to MQ the jboots with one you alterate characters. If my druid gives Hasten the ring and a rapier can I then camp and log on my enchanter and give him the gold and get the boots? Has anyone ever done this?
RE: MQ the jboots
# Apr 16 2002 at 1:52 PM Rating: Decent
Yes this is possible you just need to have a friend there hailing him until you get both chars in the same spot, and so he can keep hasten around while you switch. Just make sure no one is around besides you and your friend when you do it...
Tell me about the chain ring quest please.
# Apr 01 2002 at 2:38 PM Rating: Default
I was wondering if there was a way to duplicate this ring for a friend? someone told me about a chain ring quest, wich will let you duplicate the ring so you can have two and give one to your friend. I know it's lore but I was wondering if that quest would remove the lore on it? I don't know. Another friend told me that the quest just let's you give the ring to another person then you lose it so no jboots for you and you have to hunt for the ac again. (And yes I know it's no drop to) Anyone with info about this chain ring quest, please let me know, like wich zone it starts in, who you have to speak to and so on and what it does to your ring. Thanks. Just got the ring this morning after only camping for it for two days. I'm pleased and don't want to lose it.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the Coldain ring quests in Thurgadin?

You can redo the previous quests to get a "set" of the rings ie., you can be wearing the 8th and 9th ring.

Just wondering if that is what you may have heard about.

Yes, on 03/20/02 I successfully MQed this. I first gave Hasten the Ring of the Ancients, and then my friend gave him the Shadowed Rapier and the 3250 gold to receive the Jboots.
Just Wondering
# Mar 05 2002 at 9:57 AM Rating: Good
Ok First, I play on the Fennin Ro server. I have hunted and helped kill AC 10-12 times in the 2 years on that server. One of the things that i was wondering was if other servers are like Fennin in the Fact that AC is what we call a "FFA" mob. "FFA" meaning Free for all. I have had Wizards and other casters Blow AC right out from under my boots and they got the kill for out damaging me. Asked a GM about it the first time it happened and he said that because of the Massive over camping and Number of people in zone for that single item that the AC spawn was considered a Free for all Spawn. "Who ever gets it, gets it." Is this the case on other servers?
I have solved the simple problem with always haveing my SK friends camp him with me. The three of us have taken 10 rings From SRo if you count group and Solo kills. we did 4 rings in a single day! That is with running to RM each time to MQ the ring to an Alt and a 5 hour wait for Bro Z to go night-night so Hasten would spawn. We all have our Alts decked out in Jboots.
Oh and BTW, as far as 2 years of hunting this guy has shown us, there is nothing that makes him spawn. I have seen him pop with "PHs" up and down. With the zone cleared and with the zone full of trash, and he has spawned while SGs and terror were up. It is random Folks. Don't pay some scam artist for Info that don't hold up to what many of us have seen. Now one thing that i am sure of. IF AC pops in one zone and isn't killed.. he will despawn and pop in one of the others. Had Guildies say they got to Cy island and saw him.. got to him just to watch him poof in front of there faces and as i was reading the /gu who dropped in for a visit in SRo? Well that is about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Have fun and GL with AC. Oh, if you see a Pair of DE Sks being sped around by a Bard on Fennin.. just try again another day. We don't camp him EVERY night. 8^)

on The Nameless it's also FFA unfortunately. The first time myself and three others were camping for the AC, a 57 wiz easily outdamaged a 39 druid, 38 monk, and 44 warrior.

The next night I had a 53 wiz helping me out. There was another group (druid and enchanter) there camping it but they left (I guess they didn't think they could outdamage or mem blur it at the right time).

As far as the spawn, I think you're right in saying that it's random but I'm not sure. I think the PH in the temple has something to do with spawning the SG but I've seen SGs roaming even if the PH isn't killed. On occasion I have seen "crypt mummy" spawn in there, not "a crypt mummy". I don't know if that has anything to do with spawn rates.

Last nite we camped SRo and got the AC to spawn in 30 minutes game time and again about 3.5 hours later. One note - in wolf form the ghouls and madman won't aggro on you, which is a plus when you're just sitting there waiting.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 06 2002 at 3:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have every little detail on his spawn in Sro. I have the times he spawns. I am willing to maybe give you these precious times for plat, e-mail me! proplayer3@hotmail.com
Getting the spawn
# Feb 04 2002 at 4:29 AM Rating: Default
It really is simple. Kill the rarer or strangely names mobs in the desert area. killing one of these will spawn another in under a minute, find it and kill it. (sometimes pop in buried tower)

Rinse and repeat until the AC spawns. This can take some while. If you can get 2 or 3 groups of guildies to come and kill EVERYTHING in the zone to increase your chances.

You should get the AC pop in under 5 hours this way.

Fore more info on the rare spawns in this zone look up Ancient Cyclops on www.graffe.com

I have got 2 rings this way in a week. Thanks mr AC. As a level 39 wizard the Ancient Cyclops is easily soloable. Some of the SG's are more resistant to root and snares though.

I hope this helps a bit.
Got him... Finally!
# Feb 01 2002 at 1:15 AM Rating: Default
I finally got the AC tonight in SRo at level 40 with a 38 Pali friend helping me clear the spawns. I was concentrating on the northern end of the zone, being sure to clear out everything i could (not too hard with SoW potions, FBSS, and a healing partner for help with the SG's). After killing 3 "rare" mobs (giant rattlesnake, madman, and another madman), this guy finally spawned right next to the derv camp on the eastern edge of the zone. He actually wasn't too hard to take down, especially after my Runebladed Sword of Night proc'd 3 times in my first 15-20 attacks... I actually had him down past half health before my partner got there to assist. He went down fairly easy, and after months of the occasional camp, I'm finally ready to get those J-Boots. Now if I can stay awake long enough to find Hasten...

It's gonna be great to save money now that I don't have to buy those SoW potions anymore.
